🌴CHAPTERS

I've started over twice. Getting ready to start again....

— @webasdf

0:00 Chinese is hard BUT...

0:55 don't worry!

i dunno why youtube read my mind. Today i decided to try a trial Preply less which i paid for. But the lady didn't speak cantonese or english and my mandarin at the moment is basic, i can say, My name is...or I love chilli sauce etc. so it wasn't so great. she had a slide deck introducing how to order food, but i want to learn more conversational daily mandarin. so i think i want to learn the basics myself then pay for classes when i am a bit more proficient

— @MessyAmateurGardener

1:32 is Chinese hard?

2:26 simplified or traditional?

thank you so much,even in English almost like that the literally prounantiation and spelling is only around 2% (syllables, schwa, stressing,linking) terrible

— @Arenx7

3:05 so where to start?

3:14 1.learn the tones

You are a blessing from heaven! I just started learning Chinese and your video is amazing. Thank you very much!!!

— @douglassantos8918

4:47 should I learn Pinyin?

5:37 2.get to know Chinese

Thanks for this video. I appreciate you offering advice on learning Chinese. It seems nearly impossible to learn. When you say "ma ma ma ma", I cannot hear the tones. I had to think really hard to find any distinction in the sounds you are making. I expect teaching my ear to hear the tones will be essential. Thx!

— @perkinsdearborn4693

7:32 3.learn the basic sentences

8:57 Chinese characters are NOT scary

For sure, I'm just the mid video and I now find Chinese quite interesting and mentally much easier.

— @MichelKalité

9:27 3.learn the basic sentences

10:38 4. immerse yourself

Ugh, I’m not doing well so far. I’m feeling frustrated bc I can’t get the tones right. They sound right in my head then I my mouth screws them up…like I have a hard enough time trying to speak words in English (first language) where my mouth is constantly fumbling sounds. I think I’d do better if I had an actual coach to tell me if my tones are on point or not, like when I took choir a long azz time ago. 😓

🎙️MY SOCIAL MEDIAS & LINKS

Je suis française et les adultes comme les enfants ont dû mal avec cette langue. La grammaire, l'orthographe sont très complexes. J’ai fait de l’allemand et c’est pire !
J’ai appris un peu le russe et j’apprend aussi le japonais. Heureusement le japonais ressemble beaucoup au chinois pour la grammaire et les Kanji.
Mais je trouve le chinois plus simple à apprendre que le français 😂

Thank you for your video! I stumbled across your video yesterday because I was looking to learn Mandarin Chinese - just at a low level for now. My 4 year old great-nephew is learning Mandarin Chinese and when he comes to the states to visit, I want to surprise him with just a few things to say. Your video was the perfect find. First off; you are totally adorable, I love your zest for life. You gave me a really good baseline along with the website and podcast recommendations. I see that is not your focused content, but just wanted to let you know how much I appreciated this video.

I love your energy that you carry with you through your videos. It’s easy to feel a sense of clinical doom when I try to find guides. Most of my motivation outside of just truly loving Chinese culture and HISTORY come from people passionate about inspiring the newbies

highly appreciate you for making this video, ive been trying to learn mandarin cuz im dating someone who's native language is mandarin for 3 years now but had a hard time in the past as i didn't have a baseline on how to start exactly and my partner isn't big on teaching in general even though she wants me to learn. with the app and guidance i feel like i could slowly progress in the long run and hopefully surprise them

Actually I can pronounce the tones and ik many words like I can introduce myself and use basic greeting and tbh I learned it from watching those cute highschool dramas 😭

I feel ashamed as a grade 9 in Chinese and not even being able to talk more than a 6 year old Chinese kid😭

The one and only reason for me learning Chinese is that Chinese culture, traditions, rituals and food has a lot of similarities with the Kashmiri ones

@AehrazShowket

Hey everyone! I’ve finished pinyin, tones, and initials, and I can pronounce some Mandarin words too. I’d love to practice simple conversations with a language partner—anyone up for it? Plz reply to this comment. thank you 😊

My problem is 2 of those tones sound the same to me 🫣🫠🫠

13:20 did a great job. when i was trying to self learn i used a lot of these sources. i took a break and got curious so here i am. i can recognize some basic characters and my tone is a bit better. i really recommend these sources. maybe just keep it light first and stick to one like hellochinese. very easy to use and to not get overwhelmed maybe do one per day. or learn tone on the side :)

@aandy9293

But I think it's harder because of the pimyin that is so hylighted next every caractère that we tend to focus more on reading the pimyin instead of understanding the tones and meanings of the characters

tonns, dung, glare. 👀

@woritsez
@

3:33There's actually no perceptible difference in tone (it isn't pronounced 'ton'). Add traffic noise or any other ambient noise, and you're entirely dependent on context, because there's no way you're going to pick up a difference so subtle that it's imperceptible even in total isolation.
