How to Speak Clearly & With Confidence | Matt Abrahams
Video Overview & Insights
My guest is Matt Abrahams, lecturer at Stanford Graduate School of Business and a world expert in communication and public speaking. He explains how to speak with clarity and confidence and how to be more authentic in your communication in all settings: public, work, relationships, etc. He shares how to eliminate filler words ("umm"-ing), how to overcome stage fright and how to structure messages in a way that makes audiences remember the information. He also shares how to recover gracefully if you "blank out" on stage and simple drills and frameworks that dramatically improve spontaneity, storytelling and overall communication effectiveness. People of all ages and communication styles will benefit from the practical, evidence-supported protocols Matt shares to help you communicate with greater confidence and impact.

Great video! Matt explains communication skills in a simple and practical way. I especially liked the idea that confidence comes from preparation and practice, not from being naturally gifted. Thanks for sharing these valuable insights!

Doc I wanted to speak with you not with confidence, who is this so called confidence interfered a lot between us so far. I took treatment from you not from these misleaders and assumed absord confident mediators, who are they & why are they interfering between Doc & his first and patient.
Now onwards, if they will interfere more, I will give them doses of medicines & injections which they couldn't imagine ever, as per your prescriptions

Hello everyone! Always have loved the show.
As a person that works with various clients on mental and physical health, I just want to say a huge THANK YOU for distinguishing that we all just need to extend our out-breath to calm ourselves. I can't tell you how many clients share with me the different breathing strategies they use, which they assume are for stress in-the-moment, and they don't even know how some of them are actually amping them up! It really is bothersome when clients tell me they do box breathing, or some other sort of breathing with breath holds. I get it. It's helpful. But certainly almost never in the moment unless you practice a LOT! And come on people, you know who you are, you ain't practicing that much! 4 seconds in and 8 or more seconds out. Done!
Love you! Can't wait to be on your show!

More User Perspectives
I bet the watch time was higher on this one
@CJYeoDuring my university orientation, I experienced a sudden, intense "freeze" response while asking a question in front of all my classmates. Although I began the moment feeling confident, the immediate focus of the entire room triggered an unexpected surge of adrenaline.
This resulted in a visible panic response: stuttering, a shaky voice, and shortness of breath. This event functioned as a social trauma, conditioning my nervous system to associate public speaking with a "threat" state. Since then, even small settings (more than three or four people in online meetings) trigger a physiological panic response.
Currently, I rely on beta-blockers and occasionally benzodiazepines to manage these symptoms. While these tools allow me to function, I am concerned that they are serving as a safety behavior that prevents me from building genuine, internal confidence and habituating to the stress of public speaking.
9:30 i love how he addressed this
@jhainagutierrez5930few word do trick
@champagneprincess444i did the longer exhale trick bc im just sitting here on my laptop. my hr was 75 breathing normally. then i breathed deeper, calmer, with long exhales and it went down to 68, that was crazy to watch in real time, and i feel calmer too. science!!
@champagneprincess444The fact that you have been consistently providing IMMENSE value free of charge through these podcasts for years is truly amazing.

@Coach_Matt_makesPublic Statement Regarding DHNI (Dual-Human Neural Interfacing) Patterns and Research Oversight
I am raising concerns about a pattern of interference I have been experiencing that aligns with what my dossier classifies as Dual-Human Neural Interfacing (DHNI ⥠HHCI ⥠HHI).
This term does not assert the existence of a specific device, mechanism, or institution, nor does it identify any actor. It is strictly a phenomenological classificationâa way to describe a recurring pattern of imposed cognitive, sensory, linguistic, and emotional interference that requires independent forensic and medical evaluation.
The DHNI pattern I experience includes:
disruption of speech formation,
sudden interruption of inner-speech,
attentional capture and cognitive redirection,
destabilizing emotional shifts,
interference with working memory and expressive continuity,
sensations resembling entrainment or induced physiological responses.
These effects impact cognition, expressive function, and bodily autonomy â domains protected under civil-rights and bodily-integrity standards.
I am not attributing these effects to any university, organization, or entity.
However, given the rapid pace of neuroscience, neurotechnology, and electrophysiology research, I believe there is a pressing need for:
stronger oversight,
transparent safeguards,
accountability measures, and
protection against misuse of emerging technologies.
My intention is to ensure that all institutionsâacademic, corporate, or otherwiseâare held to the highest ethical, legal, and human-rights standards in any work involving neural interfacing, cognitive influence, or electrophysiological manipulation.
I will continue to document my symptoms and experiences, and I am pursuing all lawful avenues to secure review, investigation, and protection.
Great episode, very useful tips for improving speech and communication; I also tried an AI called PrepoAI for real-time video call practice with ai, and highly recommend it for anyone struggling with speaking, communication, or interviews.
