Video Overview & Insights

The Bondo Product Used in this Video: https://amzlink.to/az0cRuqXRDEIt

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Handyman - these are usually damaged by claw marks from people who cruelly lock their pets in the bathroom/closet while they are out doing whatever they do.

-Favourite Stud Finder: https://amzlink.to/az0XWnQxjlK4S

-Favourite Caulking Gun: https://amzlink.to/az0z70SslRUWf

One other note with Bondo type fillers - make sure you are in a well ventilated area, as it can carry a lot of fumes. Definitely wear a mask when sanding and definitely wear gloves if you use the fiberglass variety 😉

Thank you so much; very pleased (& relieved) to see that I can do this myself!

I've done all kinds of repairs like that to the house I'm currently renting. When I leave, it'll be in better condition than when I moved in.

What wood filler do you use? I’ve used the bondo, but love the tip of something easier to use for finishing it. You can also dilute the wood filler bondo with laquer thinner make it smoother!

@JBRion22

I hate MDF, it should never be used where things could get damp either. Its also much heavier than wood.

I think a new piece of pre-primed actual pine would be cheaper and less time consuming than buying the special alcohol primer and the bondo. Which over time will fail again before the wood will. The only way I see this as worth it, is if you already have the material (bondo etc) or are using the bondo for numerous repairs and other trim, or different other repairs (I fix door dents with it etc).

America houses are literally made of cardboard huh. This is crazy

Dude you did NOT get down to any dry area when you chiseled that down. That is ALL still wet inside. You needed to cut that off and replace it with a wood piece. Half assing stuff seems to be the norm on channels like this and I dont get why? You set yourself up for this to crack and expand later with humidity. Why cant you people just do it right? You fool 1000s of people into thinking this is the proper way to do it and the proper way isnt even expensive. This is so lame. How do s dumb channels like this get so many subs? What a stupid video.

@Paultimate7

White is the white tube named that you mix the bondo with?

@mirazuerl

I would have cut out the whole blown section . That’s not the end of the problem for him

Are you happy with that Makita hover?
I'm on the fence about purchasing one (trying to talk myself into it TBH)

@JustinMurray170fin

At first my thought was to just cut out the piece and replace it, but after seeing what you did, I think what you did may actually be the easiest and smartest way to repair the door jamb. Work smarter, not harder

Here’s a TIP for MDF like that. After you get scraped back. Hit it with CA glue and activator. It’ll instantly harden it up and you can fill it and sand it and paint it

@marcemarc6516
@

Thats not wood

@nikesamo2025

I want to replace a lower section only where it has rotted. The rest of the architrave is perfect.

how much for a complete room door in usa?

@LCMWR

Your wooden palens are also made out of cardboard?? Jesus Christ USA... 😱

@streetstreetz5784

Patching a water damaged MDF board is a bad idea.
Just chop that section off and replace with ply.
Then use your 2pac method on the joint.

$50 in supplies to fix a $10 board lol

@lancegoens747

it would have been easier and cheaper to just replace the whole piece.. repairing that piece is a waste of time and a detriment to the home..
and who the hell uses that kind of wood for a door frame...

@zakii9938

You aren't old you just need to take up running. Sounds like work, I know, but think: one half hour of whatever running you can do with it, come home, shower, then do your evening thing. Do it a few times a week and it'll become something you look forward to AND it makes you feel younger during your workdays, which is important.

how does water damge happen on a bedroom door frame?

@skim193

Not really wood is it!

@sawdustwoodchips

What cowboy uses MDF for a door liner? Smfh

@sandraeff

this shows you how not to do such repairs

@suhayl5157

Hope the floor has a party and invites the baseboard, trim, and casing down.

@drewdonnelly2174
@

Best tip, dont cheap out and install mdf casings in in the first place.

@drewdonnelly2174
@

The damaged MDF can be easy penetrate and impregnate by cyanoacrylate glue like SuperGlue, which will make it hard again. Then you can do with this what you want 😊

@MajkielMichajƂow
@

Do you want to know how to avoid that mess? Don't buy cheap lumber. That is not a wood product. It's MDF. MDF is total garbage and sucks up water like a sponge when wet and then swells. And if you bought those cheap vanities at home depot. Good luck. They are made with MDF as well. Not a great product where water is always present.

@martincarnahan381

ikke underligt det er skadet nÄr det er lavet af mdf.

@-Ok2024

Thanks for the video, worked like a charm, way easier than cutting off a whole
Piece of wood and nailing it again and getting tools that I will just use once!

@AngelPl4y3r

Why using MDF for trims anyway. Wood is much more durable

@hetedeleambacht6608
@

im sorry to say but im a renter. I am very careful with my appartment. However, this MDF we call it material is absolute crap and totally unsuited for most things, especially moldings and trims close to the floor, where you have to mop, your feet bump into, anything remotely damp or whete corners might chip off. Because its basicly cardboard mulch glued together. You cannot blame the renter, this material just detoriates after normal use in a couple of years and is basicly unreparable. Using durable materials like proper wood solves the problem easily, and it is easily maintained and repared. MDF is not. Use crappy materials, expect crappy detoriation very fast. Not the renters fault.

@hetedeleambacht6608
@

Can wooden surfaces be repaired using the like materials? I had to make an appr. 10 mm deep hollowing in order to reach the jammed door lock latch.

@ihorpavlovych5236
@

Very useful video. What would be the equivalent of bondo in Europe?

@mikepollux
@

Pretty amateur stuff holy smokes,try weld bond mixed with wood filler so much easier than all that wow

@mikeryckman3120
@

The lower wooden got rotten very easily in humid areas. Do you think replacing the lower part with metallic material will be more sustainable? Or would you advise against that because it will become even harder to maintain? Thanks

@hami2defi
@

On another video of yours, you used some type of Elmer's. You said it hardened better. What was that stuff?

@Steven-e7c
@

Just cut out the lower 6-7 inches or the entire casing!

Do the job right!

@DAT240Z72
@

I would just cut out the broken piece and cut a piece put some sprayfoam and put Brad nails to put in place and use wood pro to fill and sand down .

@eliteproperty7955
@

Muy interesante, gracias. 💙💙

@hermidecastro3307
@

Good video, thanks. The frame was loose. I would have put in a couple of screws or just replaced it with wood, then reinforce with some 3”x2” RSJ to make it tenant proof!

@roybatty2030
@

bondo is great for a lot of wood repairs , I use the auto bondo filler a bit cheaper. . and last a long time even out doors. good video.

@SilverMt.

Excellent work. Thank you. 😊

After repairing door casings... (btw, hate how builders used MDF!) How do you protect door casings from further damage? All mine are in my 3 bathrooms that need fixing.
