If there is a space under the door, would you suggest shaving the upper part of the strike plate?

Tighten top hinge screws works about 90% of the time for this.

If the top hinge screws are stripped, replace them with longer screws.

You mention using the specified Dremel bit in a drill. I saw elsewhere that because a drill doesn't have the RPMs that it could overheat and cause some dangerous conditions if I went that route. I'd also like to avoid buying an item for one-time use. (I'm one of those guys.) Is anyone able to offer advice here?

@wickedwritah

This (filing and reattaching the strike plate) worked for me! This had been a problem for at least 3 years and I thought I'd need a new door, so I put it off. I appreciate the clear instructions!

Bruh you talked for almost 3 mins..And didn’t show us anything! Work AND TALK 😒Fixed my issue, no thanks.

Thanks so much for this video. No carbide dremel so I used a titanium drill bit which made quick work of the latch in under a minute. First test close and it closed and latched perfectly. Rated AAAA+++

My door latch doesn’t go back out like normally, I have to manually twist the doorknob till it’s fully out, I hear the click sound, but the door still opens cuz it’s not out enough

thanks so much, filing down the metal really worked, wasn't much to take off. My son is at college and our puppy kept pushing the door open and eatting his shoes underneath is bed. Now its shut all the time. Virtual beer for you from Philadelphia PA USA.

thanks it worked!

Mine is the opposite. Let go of the garage door and the door doesn't latch...doesn't close. Bolt stuck open.

@RotterStudios

I don't understand how the knob can work for several months and then all of a sudden doesn't latch. Is it due to a change in the weather?
