At some point in our lives, almost every one of us will have our heart broken. Imagine how different things would be if we paid more attention to this unique emotional pain. Psychologist Guy Winch reveals how recovering from heartbreak starts with a determination to fight our instincts to idealize and search for answers that aren't there -- and offers a toolkit on how to, eventually, move on. Our hearts might sometimes be broken, but we don't have to break with them.

The TED Talks channel features the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes (or less). sometimes I still felt a fire burning inside my stomach. Realizing and accepting something is not in my power to change really is something. also some girl doesn't take the opportunity that wide open in front of them and a couple more here and there. If they only they know it is so easy for me to fall in love šŸ˜‚

I did love him but when i think about him coming back to my life and we starting again, i already messed up my health both physical and mental because of him and i can not live with that guy…i guess i only miss the good parts and the bad part makes me hate him even more.

It's like an addiction. The less you do it, the less your brain will crave it. The less you think of the person, the less you will crave them.

This goes off the rails when the guy says "heroin of being with rich," I get the point that he's driving at but c'mon. Also, what happens if you have to come off heroin and break up with someone at the same time (?)

She was everything to me, my whole world. I idealized her so much that she was more than perfect in my eyes. After two years and three months, we had arguments, and she dropped the bombshell. She told me she didn't love me anymore and that when she realized it, she tried to fix it but couldn't. She'd been lying to me for months, pretending she loved me, until that moment when she got tired of me and told me I made her uncomfortable. I still can't understand how that perfect woman, to whom I gave everything and completely closed off my world to, could betray my love like that…

I just lost my first love. We knew our future wasn’t guaranteed but I was willing to hold on just as long as the present held us. And it hurts me so much, because they were the one who decided to let go, yet it never felt truly mutual. I only went through it because I had respect for them. But otherwise, I would’ve never let go that early. It hurts because neither of us wanted it, but it’s meant to be for the better. I hate how I still hold onto hope, thinking one day they’ll reconsider and come back eventually. I just want to embrace them in my heart for longer.

I know whats hindering me and how much disrespect i tolerate but i can't bring myself to hate or forget him no matter what . I always defend him myself like " He had his reason ,it fine." Its killing me that he's emotionally immature and i have anxious attachment but I want us to end together at the end. I can't imagine when he finally realise the mistake n wats to work out, it would be for another girl.

I broke up with her yesterday after I found out she was lying to me and hiding things from me throughout the entire relationship... and now I feel so betrayed and hurt. I trusted her after 10 years of being single because my trust was broken. She gained it just to break it again. I feel horrible...

Very true. I wrote a song called "no signature required," and this is the chorus:

I thought your voice would save me
Say the thing that set me free
But I was asking for an ending
You were never going to give me

Chorus
Closure is not a conversation
It’s not a word you say
It’s the morning that I wake up
And choose to walk away
I don’t need you to confirm it
I don’t need you to agree
I know the truth — I lived it
And that’s enough for me

I mourn for a god who never existed. I WISH it were true. Inb4 YT evangelists and the hoodwinked layman alike attempt to ā€œenlightenā€ me and offer me ā€œsalvationā€ as if it were their own to claim as their own, let alone to offer to another, with or without the grace of ā€œGodā€ granting them such power.

Exactly!
I cry all the time 24/7 ever since she has left. she was not only my partner, but my identity and my safest place. I also recently moved to Germany and I don't have any friends. the connection with my old friends is fading out and you can't get deep with new people. so i find myself alone. alone more than ever. I don't have her, and i don't have anyone to talk to. and i see she is living a life that i have always dreamed of. it shatters my heart into millions. and it doesn't allow me to get to my everyday life. i can't focus on anything. she was my everything and i gave her my whole life. and now I'm nobody.
and I'm so tired to be honest. it's really exhausting to carry all of this pain and anxiety all the time. I'm running away from myself all the time. i just keep asking myself what more should i offer to keep her, to satisfy her. she was the first and the last priority of my life and i could do anything for her. so why? why did she leave me? i keep asking myself. it's the worst days of my life and all i do, is to survive. i really hope to get rid of this addiction.

My heartbreak was - how did I not see through this person before loosing myself to them - my heartbreak is me how did I allow myself to be 100 vulnerable and loyal and taken for the enemy of my heart for so many years

It's still very fresh but I've decided not to worry too long. Why? I suffered long enough in that relationship and don't want to continue that after. Now it's time to live.

7:15 is the part that's so hard for me, there wasn't a SINGLE moment where either of us were unhappy (so i thought), not a single photo where we both aren't smiling. There was no big argument that tore us apart, I woke up one day to a text from her saying she was "overwhelmed" and needed space. I still can't get why she didn't say anything, or try to fix it? Was i not worth it? and why? It is so crazy to me that its just over like that, in an instant

@tufted6007
@

Honestly, my breakup wasn’t because she stopped loving me or because there was another guy or anything toxic like that. She was mentally and emotionally overwhelmed for weeks. She kept overthinking our future, family pressure, religion differences, about her career and studies, and whether things would hurt more later if we stayed together. She was crying for days before even telling me about the breakup, which made me realize this wasn’t an impulsive decision for her.

The hard part is that we both still loved each other deeply. But somewhere her mind started believing that love alone may not be enough to survive all the future pressure and emotional stress. During the breakup, I panicked a lot because I didn’t want to lose her, and I kept trying to fix things immediately, while she was trying to create distance because she felt emotionally suffocated and exhausted.

So the breakup wasn’t really about hate, cheating, or loss of feelings. It was more about fear, emotional overload, future anxiety, and her thinking ending things now would hurt less than suffering later. That’s what makes it so painful and confusing.

And ik that i just asking you guys so i can get validation of she will come back bro even though ik its not possible im seeking some good hope but ik if i would hope if she didn't came back i will ne more hurt, idk what to do its just 1 day since we ended

I am going through my first heartbreak in my 30's. My relationship only lasted 1.5 years, but going through this heartbreak is the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I am the one that ended the relationship, but I still miss her presence in my life. I felt like I had to let go of my partner, my best friend, the woman who I thought was the love of my life. I know I ended the relationship for good reasons, but this does not prevent me from missing her, feeling love for her in my heart, or thinking about the good memories. It's hard, but I think Guy's advice to remember the bad memories is very helpful.

Love and hugs to anyone who is experiencing a heart break!!
