How TikTok is Ruining Travel
Video Overview & Insights
Whole neighbourhoods now have to pay the TikTok Tax.
I agree completely but I stumbled upon Fritz Fabel when I was super hungry in Amsterdam. It’s wasn’t super busy and I waited maybe 10 minutes max. They weren’t super expensive but they were delicious! I miss them!

Thank you so much for watching! Hope you enjoyed it!
😂 I had the stroopwaffel at that place knowing very well that you could get something better at the market.
If you're new to my channel and videos, hi! I'm Evan Edinger, and I make weekly "comedy" videos every Sunday evening. As an American living in London I love noticing the funny differences between the cultures and one of my most popular video series is my British VS American one. I'm also known for making terrible puns so sorry in advance. Hope to see you around, and I'll see you next Sunday! :)
If you want to know HOW I make my videos including gear, lighting, all the tiddly bits that connect it all together, (with cheaper alternatives and kit I used to use), I've listed each item, what it's great at, and why I use it on the gear section of my website here:
No mention of gluten free as usual.

Otherwise: here's a quick list of some of my kit without descriptions from the above link:
3:28 The reviews tab on Google maps is gone somehow. You can't read any of them 😅

millenials and genz going to trendy places through tiktok is the worst research and everytime i watch vlogs and mention that they find out through tiktok i get angry and im not even a local. i rather research through google maps and zoom in on places check if the price is affordable in budget and try it myself. These people using tiktok are just influenced by these vloggers for marketing. Those places that they go to are too commercialized. They like to travel but lazy to research and want to share to their friends to the trendy place they visited.

Personally I don’t agree with the “TikTok is ruining x” takes. Bashing TikTok is the present day media moral panic like how old people freaked out about FB in the 2010s, Video Games in the 00s and 90s, MTV in the 80s and comic books in the 50s.

We have the same issue in my city in Greece. TikTok overhyped cafes with metallic chairs and horrible seating, where a coffee is 5 euros, that NO local every goes to

Bro just put me on game for an Amsterdam trip
@fxcheuxSeeing Luke and Noah visiting made me really happy 🥺💕
@sunshineflicker6120Evan I've tried to watch your vids on higher speed but it actually doesn't work you talk way too fast
@sunshineflicker6120After I read a couple of awful book recommendations from TikTok I know better than to take any advice from it, lol
@hesedpayocongA local took me to these fries before they really blew up and those fries were fire tbh 😂
@starlyuuuTikTok is an idiot trap.
@stavrosk.2868Watched this at 2x speed as is the best way to watch videos
@Flamez-18This was a thing long before tiktok too, to be fair. Ask anyone old enough in any touristy city and they'll know about the place that was on a lonely planet guide book that the tourists loved but everyone hated.
@darkfuji196What numpty’s listen to TikToker’s?
@Rachael39994You can just get them at the AH and they taste hetzelfde 😉
@PatatmetMayo9As an italian I get it too well. Sadly it happens even with toueist attractions and it also ends up ruining the cities making old historic business leave for tiktok likeable places.
@user-ei6fn7qr4dWHY DO YOU KEEP CALLING IT A COOKIE?? IT'S NOT A COOKIE
@lachemoilculLoved how the wheel's rpm matched the fps 3:30
@talha.rahmanThis happened to me with Japan. I went to Benizuru Pancake since it was popular on TikTok and the actual experience was terrible. A local place I found on Google Maps was a night and day difference.
@arn3691solution dont use tiktok
@FlutterwhatReddit is a better place for recommendations than tiktok
@jp4431Ok at this point tell what tik tok is not ruining
@j.l-w9959the best fries are in noord at a little snack shop just off the ferry
@videowatcher100bcThe mistake is believing an app designed to waste your time is supposed to help you 😂
@heyitsvonage2768Good thing I don't even have a TikTok account.
@fabiocarvalho2105Luke! Luke Cutforth 😮 What a nice reminder of the good old days of Youtube 😄
@elenalenaivaI will say, looking for recommendations on Reddit also has its own issues. Even though usually they come from locals, there's a sampling bias. People who use reddit tend to be male, young, and white if it's a western country subreddit. Not to say they tend to have bad recommendations, but the recommendations are skewed towards what this demographic likes
@tubzJust got back from Amsterdam and I found the best food when we just walked around.
@crystalpowell8619Now I want to go to Amsterdam!!! I've never had an original Stroopwafel :D
@GabsDuhart7Same with the Two Sizes in Rome.
Worst tiramisu I ever bought outside of packaged market stuff.
nooo don't tell people to stop listening to tiktok, then it won't be easy to access the actual good places
@TalysAlankilAnytime my husband and I see a huge line for some shop in NYC (where we live), we immediately just assume TikTok had something to do with it
@aricam-sngl that stoop waffle place looks like its a vibe. looks like it belongs in harry potter. but i go by google lol
@michellemuneton154Stro & Ko is pretty decent, they’re all made to order right infront of you.. really yummy and fresh 😍 but I must try Rudys!!
@she.is.me.xIts ruined humanity. All the social media has really along with smart phones
@BeatRoot14Let’s be honest: travelling to the Netherlands for a culinary experience is the real scam. Their greatest masterpieces are hanging on walls, not served on plates. Perfect destination if you love amazing art and don’t want to gain any weight.
@SebastianNord-b4qYES for RUDI!! I miss them so much and my friend would buy and bring back
@cleffa3000Wait does watching at faster speed impact watch time? I thought it would just count the time watched of the video, not the actual clock time
@emu8365This is true in NYC as well - you see massive lines for something that's insanely mid just because it got particularly popular online. The city is catering more and more to this demographic and it makes it feel much more like an amusement park than a place people live.
@jackperales1076When I went to Paris in 2018, i noticed something immediately; the family run pastry shops and bakeries were all boarded up, and replaced by “Parisian “ bakeries run by some corporate business model. They were low quality pastries that tasted no different than mediocre American supermarket pastries
