My recommendation is to do more than one play through. And to do at least one without summons, without ridiculous OP builds or AOW spam, and in melee range so you have to actually learn and engage with the boss's moveset. I wouldn't say you have to do it naked with a pot on your head, or no hit the entire game, but yeah it's fun to learn the game.

As someone whose first Elden ring play through was a naked old man who only used a torch and leveled intelligence only (Because he thought his torch was a fireball and intelligence makes fireball better)

I cannot STAND these type of people. Let people have their fun. Whatever it takes for someone to play and enjoy their single player game, power to them!

The raw joy and sense of accomplishment I got is not diminished when my 5 years old has to use summons to beat knight of godrick. That boy is STILL on cloud 9 bc he was big enough to beat Knight of Godrick on his own. Dude is the actual embodiment of the memes about Knight of Godrick haha

This is exactly how some people in my comment section asked me to play. Without summons, without my mimic tear, without good ashes of war and what not. They even took my bloodhound fang away (which is still reasonable). Made me feel like a btch every time I played 😂

ironically i find it harder using summons because then the boss starts freaking out not being able to figure out who it wants to lock onto and i end up getting hit way more often

I’ve only bought 2 souls games, Bloodborne and Elden Ring. Bloodborne I finished. With Elden Ring, I quit at Altus Plateau. I couldn’t take it anymore. No more souls games for me ever again.

Having played all From's rpgs, doing challenge runs, getting platinums, and most recently beating DS3 with no armor and no shield, I can assure you I used spirit ash summons for every single fight I could in ER. They're fun. Plus somehow, playing through elden ring using every tool available to make it easier still translated into being able to do the DS3 no armor no shield run. I definitely couldn't do that before ER, I like my armor and shields.
I like absorbed skill through osmosis. Radhan taught me the most, I'm sure. I got so good at staying back and healing the golem smith dude as he solo'd the fight for me that I beat Gael first try with no armor or summon and at an appropriate level.

I love wearing cool looking knight armors and the challenge of beating the bosses by only dodging and hitting.

But I never judged anybody for using magic or summons in souls games.

So accurate and so stupid. My first playthrough I used Mimic Tear and yes ran through the game. Ng+ no mimic tear and medium Radan armor. Ng++ no mimic tear and light armor for light roll. All were fun. There is no "right"" way. There are absolutely more challenging ways yes. But why make a masterpiece not fun by not playing how you want?

Besides, if you really like pain, Sekiro is the game for this, not ER. There's no "options". There's no coming back later. There's you and your sword.

I am someone who plays elden ring for the challenge and as such I really don't like using summons or spells as for me personally they aren't as fun. But that is just my personal way of having fun and I am not going to try and impose those rules onto others. If someone is having fun, why does it matter what they use? this is a single player game.

I know a few people that are kinda like this, but instead of taking shit out. They'll be moding the shit out of the game and upset when I play without mods.
