Fluff. Flawlessly executed. Pristine print. thanks

— @daveerickson9524

A disgruntled CIA agent quits the service after office politics confine him to a desk job. He heads to Europe, where he links up with a former lover (and fellow ex-agent). All goes smoothly until the CIA agent acts on advice of yet another retired agent, a former Russian rival, who suggests he write a tell-all autobiography. Spitefully, the agent sends out copies of his first chapter to the heads of CIA agencies throughout the world--and from that point on, he and his companion don't have a moment's peace. This delights him now that all of his former colleagues are chasing after him - he has a reason to get up in the morning. Hopscotch stars Walter Matthau, Glenda Jackson, Sam Waterston, Ned Beatty, Herbert Lom, David Matthau, George Baker, Ivor Roberts, Lucy Saroyan, and Severn Darden.

My mother's second favourite film. First was The Dead.

Walter Matthau was always the best manager of the Bad News Bears and a better Felix in The Odd Couple.

Beatty also played his role as a short little CIA boss very well! Great casting and performances, including even Matthau’s stepdaughter, the pilot of the “getaway plane” to Bermuda.

I don't care what anyone says. With the utmost respect, Matthew would have made a great "Dirty Harry". He had the look which said he has seen it all.
At the time, Eastwood was too young to have all that worldy experience.

Good little film. Amazing how every character got through the whole movie without cussing like a sailor except for Ned Beatty. 🤷

I had an FBI appointment. I wore a medium brown shirt wth a dark brown tie. It was hot Phoenix. It did not go well nut I didn't know yhat. I found out later because the agent in charge told me before our next meeting a white shirt and a black tie. I did and then was cleared to talk to J. Edgar. Point? These guys have beards, live high and even mustaches. Think movie director was lazy. Plus disrespect and a fool for head man! .

I guess a lot of movie fans think of lists. If I made a list of "oddly satisfying" movies this would be on it. Those that for whatever reasons make them satisfying anytime and every time you see them. Ones that aren't so often on lists or aren't seen quite as much any longer. Bad News Bears. Harold and Maude. Being There. The In-Laws. The Gauntlet (1977). Blue Thunder. Hooper. ...

I clicked [play] just for my appreciation of Matthau.
An unexpected bonus was the music (or rather, his enjoyment of it).

These kinds of movies were way funnier without making everything some stupid punchline. "Can I get a sandwich?" Lol

Just now seeing it for the first time. Wow! The opening scene, Europe, full of Europeans? Who'da thunk it.

That "See You Next Tuesday" Myerson line almost slipped right by me. Bold writing for 1980.

@SuperChaoticus
@

This is funny, his character seems to have an endless supply of cash. And everybody knows where he was, e.g. "He's in London now, he flew from Bermuda yesterday, and hes going by the name ---." How do they keep coming up with all of this information?!They know everything about him and his where abouts, but they still can't find him, unless he wants them too. This is worse than Jason Bourne! Great movie though, I really enjoyed it Walter Mathau and Michael Cain, alway entertaining!

One of the great movies of its time - 1980 -- just before everything changed in The Culture.

I saw the ending of this movie 2 times, IIRC, times in the 80’s, when they did movies of the week on TV. It was nice to finally watch the whole thing. I really enjoyed it.
