The tick prevention debate is so confusing

Fantastic discussion. We have been having acupuncture and massage done on our 11 year old Dobermann for the last 4 years. He had a prolapsed disc when he was younger, now that he is older he is having some problems with his balance and movement. We have a great vet who has specialised in pain management and movement and we love that she treats him wholistically. We can see the difference after he's been to her and really notice when his next appointment is due. I really wish there where more/any 'general' wholistic vets around where we live.

I live in New Zealand and we have access to some really great dog supplements like 4Cyte (really good for bone and joint health) and Fourflax (various ones for vision and brain, nervous/excitable behaviour called Calm and another for bone and joints), and pet food brands like Ziwi Peak among others. Most are made in New Zealand and provide the extra vitamins like vitamin D, C, E and B, and the foods I buy for my dogs always contain omega 3s, green lipped mussels and are primarily made from wholefoods. We also have many raw food companies that focus on gut health and high quality proteins. Granted I probably spend almost the same amount on my pets as I do my family weekly, it absolutely goes a long way to a healthier dog with minimal ailments.

I would encourage people with long term symptoms of Lyme disease who are open minded to research Dr. Sarno and TMS (Tension Myositis Syndrome). I am curing 20+ years of health issues doctors told me would be with me for life. They are wrong and I am grateful for Dr. Sarno's work. Dr. Sarno's technique just MAY help chronic symptoms of Lyme disease, it certainly can't hurt it!

Sorry Tom, I love you but she is using verbiage that screams predictive programing ( words like "compliant", really!!), sorry but my trust level is not too high these days and I am getting some warning flags. There are other reasons that the disease she mentioned (it seems I can't type out certain words or my comment gets erased) was eradicated long ago and the jibby jabbers was not it (I too believed that falsehood until about 3 years ago). I highly recommend reading a book called "Turtles all the Way Down, "jibby jab" science and myth", sorry but I think the "v" word is why my comment gets erased. This book blew my mind and opened up my thoughts to things I was so shocked were true. If you are open to learning this book was eye opening. I will never "poke" myself or my pets again. I can't believe I was so naive and gullible. My first dog almost dying both times after her first 2 sets of shots, that should have been what woke me up to the true danger. Sadly no it didn't. It was after my young cat got his shots and his heart has never been the same since, that is what made me question their true safety. I have to live with what I did to him for the rest of my life, but I won't ever give another one. I will take my chances.

Noooo bravecto is so toxic! Seresto as well, it almost killed my dog !! Please look into this! Lots of lawsuits and documents and researches show this is extremely toxic. Bravecto they need to bite first as well. And the number is way higher

My last GSD lived to be 15 YOA.

I was curious if testosterone supplements would help him retain bone and muscle mass more effectively.

My Australian Shepard had a seizure after taking flea and tick medicine. I now use the topical. We live where there’s a lot of deer.

Please hold out. Insurance companies already run human medicine. We don't want them running the animal medicine world too! If people want animal insurance, let them deal with the insurance companies, trying to get refunds for the veterinary services, etc. Let veterinarians be veterinarians without insurance company involvement. Please!
Graduated from Capital University in Columbus Ohio! St. George's in Grenada offers a dual degree - MPH and a DVM for those that might be so inclined. One health one medicine. Many dual clinics with the public bringing their dogs to also be examined themselves by the medical students while the vet students check out the dog. Hope that helps.

The best way to avoid any vet is to start off holistic, not to go holistic once our pets break. Start off with fresh home prepared food. Avoid chemicals, limited vaccines, let them keep their hormones. Fresh air, sunshine, communication, exercise. Corporate medicine is not health care, it is sick care. It keeps you coming back for more.

I love all of this!! I'm very holistic for myself and my dog. She does much better on the freeze dried raw. She's small and the pure raw was not agreeing with her. 🐾❤️

IS VITAMIN A (& OTHER VITAMINS ACTUALLY TOXIC?) I had to comment here!! I am just starting to research and follow a doctor named Garrett Smith who states Vit A is toxic and has also mentioned the harms of Vit D and C and I do believe he said they are toxic as well. As I am just starting to learn about this, I can't speak a lot on it here other than I have done enough research so far to think he may indeed be correct and so I felt the need to post a comment and a link to ONE of his many videos I am just starting on. PLEASE DON'T INGORE THIS. DO SOME RESEARCH ON THIS.

I would also stay clear of Ivermectin!! It is not what people have been led to believe and would encourage watching other videos of Dr. Garrett Smith the Nutrition Detective on YT. Although I am just starting to take a deep dive into this, I believe Smith is most likely telling us the truth about the harms of this as well.

Great video!! The information was a little overwhelming however important. Preventative care is so amazing for everyone! I will say, I haven't gotten myself a blood panel or my pets in a while simply due to cost. I don't have health or pet insurance. I hope to make enough money soon to get testing done as well as buying preventive care products. Thank you for using your platform to share great education.

You should do a video telling what the best foods are that are readily available to normal people. That isn’t out of most people’s price range. Also best vitamin supplement .

How much do you feed your mastiff? I have a Cane Corso raw feeding but now listening to this I wonder if i should go premade instead of homemade. Costing is my concern.

I would have to disagree with the comment about everybody feeling great after acupuncture. I've had 2 treatments and I never felt anything different, definitely, not better than I was before. I was being treated for a pinched piriformis and the only thing that cured it was deep tissue massage therapy- acupuncture did nothing.

Holistic healers for humans are almost always pseudo-scientists and frauds. Probably no different for dogs

Wish insurances covered holistic doctors!

My lab had a seizure after prevecto so I'm concerned about that product especially after reading a lot of blogs of people who went through the same thing and some died. Many people blogged it.

I am so glad she brought up the hesitancy for putting small dogs on a raw diet, I no longer feel crazy. I have 5lb and and a 13 lb dog. I also do not have access to refrigeration. Dose anyone have recommendation for a good quality, shelf stable non raw food.

I do love your work and follow your stuff for quite some time now.
still, meddling with "holistic" approaches is a kind of slippery slope. Homeopathy, accupuncture, ostheopathy are not schience based and there may be some hocuspocus involved (and now show all the posts with anecdotal evidence)
I do think it is important to have a Vet listen properly, mind all the details and explain all the options or risks to you,
turning to "alternative" medicine often is grasping for straws or reflecting the viewpoint of the owners

It's refreshing to see someone who is not locked in on only one methodology. It's getting very hard these days to find people willing to question the rhetoric you face from the closed minded mob.
