EURAIL PASS REVIEW | Costs, Tips & is it Worth it?

Video Overview & Insights

I hope you've found this Eurail Pass review helpful. Below you'll find some links that I've mentioned in the video.

What if you take a train departing around 10pm and arriving at 5am (next day), will that deduct 2 days from your Eurail pass?

Hi, what do you think of the Global Plus Pass (Beta), which covers the seat reservation as well? Is it much cheaper compared to buying separate tickets for the seat reservation? Appreciate your feedback. Thanks!

Video Chapters:

I used a 4-day Eurail pass in France to go from Paris to Bordeaux (by TGV), then to Carcassonne (by regional/not-high-speed train), then to Perpignan, and Villefranche-de-Conflent. I then took the Yellow Train (Le Train Jaune) through the Pyrenees to Font Romeau, and then finally Toulouse. My travel vlog has pics and video of some of the trains, and my thoughts on using the Eurail pass. What screwed me up (and resulted in a fine) was confusion about needing a seat reservation ticket as well as cancelling a Eurail pass travel day BEFORE getting on the first train. I basically bought the reservation using my Eurail pass number, got the QR code, and thought I was good to go. I did not realize I still needed to cancel the travel day, and I got the fine from the conductor. I figured out what I did wrong, cancelled the travel day, and then went and found him again, but he did not reverse the fine. 50 Euro lesson learned. When I was trying to figure out how to use the pass, I found it very confusing. Check out my YouTube video on my trip. https://youtu.be/SuEX0TlA_Iw

Interrail/Eurail also has a lot of sales. Around black friday or in the spring etc. If you buy a pass you have 11 months to activate your pass!

If I buy 5 day pass, does that mean I can only take one train that day? Or can I do as many trips on a given travel day?

I'm planning to buy a month pass, have anyone already done it ? I mean do we get travel sickness after a week or two ?

Thank you for the video! Another recommendation, Eurail passes have big discounts several times a year, so you can get them at 20% or 25% if you wait for the sales ( Black Friday, Winter sales, etc) and you have a year to activate and use the pass 😊

Thank you, super helpful!! I was wondering, when I purchase the monthly (consecutive days) pass, does it start immediately or can I specify the day it will start?

Very good tips but please stop the VOCAL FRY, it's so distracting.

I cannot recommend Eurail. The app is very difficult to use, especially in connection with seat reservations. I had booked a travel day and had an unexpected situation in the morning that prevented travel. I could not change or cancel the travel day so lost the day. I couldn't even add a day. Very poorly designed system.

One question. If you are changing plans, how do you handle hotel reservations?

There’s this app where I’ve been snagging some really economical tickets recently—they have a current promotion. I can share the details with you if you’d like

I love and hate Europe. I was fascinated by the stunning scenery and rich history, but I was overwhelmed by the high cost. I think trainpal's discount coupon saved me.

Hello Laura great video thank you, I have a question please help me, this is my first time going Europe I'm going to The Olympics 2024 we are going to travel almost everyday to Lille France, we booked and AIRNB in Paris. Our plan is to go to London, Versailles, and surrounding cities around Paris. Should we get the Global Pass or just for Paris the Eurail Pass and take the Eurostar when go to London? We are planning to stay in London 2 days, besides that we are going to be in Paris most of the time. I know that Lille is the border of Belgium we are planning to go to Brujas, Please help me this is the first time going to Europe......

I have to say that the Eu is a place that everyone must visit in their lifetime. The rich cultural heritage, diverse society and scenic views are all worth knowing about! However,, the travel fee is really insane… I have been there like 5 years and I really recommend the app I found that has discount on every journey! I've spent 35% less each time I've travelled. Tell me if u need it, I'll share!

Hi All. Glad I found this Video. We have a trip to Ulm, Germany this coming weekend where we’ll stay 6 days. We also plan to go to France for about 4 days after Germany. Is getting a global rail pass worth it? Also is it possible to move around the cities in both Germany and France using the global rail pass? Or we’ll need to get additional tickets for travelling in the city

Hi Laura

@TJ-kf3zl

Hei. Just wondering if you have eurail and when you get to up to the train. Can you just seat where you want to? Or the ticket will indicate where you can seat? Thanks.

@jenlesaca7030
@

can we use the eurail pass within one country? Like if we stay in Rome, and spent the next five days travelling to Milan then back to Rome, then Venice, then Florence, then Naples...all comes back to Rome (as we are booked in a hotel there). Thanks in advance!

when you say 5 day on month pass, what does "month" mean? Is that 30 days from when you start even if it goes into a different month?

I'm flying in and out of London from NYC, and then I'll be all over the place--Brussels, Amsterdam, Berlin, Zurich, Milan, maybe Barcelona and Lisbon, but I'm also looking to stop in multiple small German cities in the Dortmund area, where each city is about 20 minutes apart and I can see a few in one day. Mostly I'm going for transit photography and to eat at as many international McDonald's as I can lol. I'm really thinking that this pass could be worth it for me just based on the quantity of trains I'm looking to ride. It's just a matter of how long I'll be in Europe, and how many days I spend on each side of the trip in London that shouldn't count as travel days, so maybe I get 22 days and then spend 2-3 days in London on each side and that's a four week trip.

Just got back from a tour of Europe. I tried to use the Eurail pass but it never worked! I could never get the tickets to download. It sucked! I could not get a hold of a customer service representative because the company does not list a contact number. They also do not have agents at the train stations to help solve the issues. It got so stressful, that we had to buy physical tickets at the ticket counters for each country we traveled to. I would never use this Eurail Pass again. Still trying to get my money back!

It would be so nice if you could give time to travel from major cities to major cities too and costs associated with it. However the video is helpful

Thanks for such a great video and your honest opinion. I am looking for videos like this because the ER Rail has changed, I used it back in 2013, when you use to get a booklet, had to choose in advance the countries you would travel too, and everything needed to be filled out with a pen LOL
Having that experience, I choose to buy the EU rail pass only for expensive train rides with modern fast speed trains, such as Austria, Germany, France, or Italy. In 2013 I did catch a bus from Vienna to Bratislava, which was super comfortable, and it only costed 6 euros at the time. I think it now costs 10 euros, which is also very cheap.
