Conan O’Brien Is Ready for the Oscars | The New Yorker Radio Hour

Video Overview & Insights

The comedian and television host talks with David Remnick about the decline of late night, the death of the Reiners, and why he loves when things go wrong on stage.

Why the heel did you feel the need to show that Will Smith violent incident!? Please have some decency, @newyorker — I'd like to think you're better than posting cheap content, but maybe I'm wrong.

— @perspicaciouscritic

It takes a special interviewer to make Conan O’Brien depressed

Every time I see Conan being interviewed, I click immediately. Even when most of the video has you laughing at his quips, he somehow manages to say something unexpectedly profound. I really felt that when he talked about Rob and Michele Reiner, and Catherine O’Hara.

I sort of understand women dying their hair but men doing that is just ridiculous.

What the heck is a glacial plate?

He could have pressed Conan on what happened at the party that night.

This is a fascinating interview. Conan is a legend. And the smartest guy in the room, but doesn't act like it.

Break a leg, but make sure it's somewhere in the middle.

Also, Conan is my childhood. I couldn't go to sleep before watching the late show and I would even watch the reruns on Comedy Central so thank you Conan for helping shape who I am and making me laugh during some really difficult times.

I love him using two rappers names as upscale building names in NYC.

If you're lucky, you don't think about it for the first couple of decades of your life... and then it's people saying, "Did you hear?" And you walk around concussed for a week.

While it kind of seemed ‘out of place’ to ask about the death of his friends for this interview, I will say thank you to Conan for honoring Catherine dearly.

I can’t wait to watch Conan’s opening monologue of the Oscar’s then turn it off when he’s done!

@nancykillsyou

Conan is a comedy genius, of course, but, over the last many years, it’s dawning on me that he might be a genius, period. Incredibly thoughtful, deliberate, well-read, and, maybe above all, knowingly self-aware.

@rellman85
@

he's gonna plant a streaker

@georgebourlos1430

Conan, I need you to bring it on fully at that monologue! 2016 style!

Loved what he said about certain things that cannot be parodied because they are already a parody in itself. Interesting insight.

Oh yeah, I’m sure he’s ready for the Oscars after a legendary Hollywood director + his wife were murdered by their son later on the day of Conan’s Christmas party, which they all attended… I’d be ready for anything by March.

The exchange between Will and Conan about Conan's parent's is some of the best dark humor I've ever seen. Will laid it out perfectly in an interview not long ago on Conan's podcast. Hysterical.

I love Conan… he’s the absolute best!

It must be such terrible grief for the Reiner family and Conan. For me Stand By Me is the magnum opus.
