This sounds terrible, but even though I'm a native English speaker, with 5 years of western university, i only recently realized that a VERB is not just a "doing word" but can also be a "state of being" - ie being in a state [of being]. It helps to know this.

I realized this through my Mandarin studies.

4:45 || Plurals

我 不 是中国人
Here 不, bu, means negates a verb, it means not, dont with some exceptions

她们tāmen 没有méiyŏu 米饭
Meiyou is used when you do not have something. 1:35
----
2:13 2:20
是 often used as "is" can't be used to connect a subject to an adjective. Sentences like "She is beautiful" "the box is heavy" "The house is ugly" all use "is" to connect; but in Chinese use 很, or hēn which translates to very, despite its connotation in English, hen很 is a neutral word and is often just translated as "is."
她很好看
(She 她 ta )(很 hen)(好看 hao kan) means "She is good looking"

Or use 非常
米饭不非常好吃
( rice, mifan 米饭)(not bu不)(extremely, fēi cháng, 非常)(good eat hăo chī好吃) -> rice is not extremely good eats, it doesnt taste good. Ect ect
---
3:20
漂亮 的 裙子
Piàolang de qúnzi
Beautiful (的) dress
Adjective + de + noun, instead of 老公很好看(the husband is very good looking), this example uses the possesive character de...

好看的老公 (good looks of husband, or simply, husband's good looks)

Using in full sentence
(他们)(是)(聪明)[的](学生)
Tamen shi congming de xuesheng
They are smart students, the de connects the smart adjective to the students.

漂亮)[的](裙子)(很)(贵
Pianliang de qúnzi hen gui
Beautiful de dress very pricey
Beautiful dresses are pricey

好的 adj + de means the __ one
Sometimes de will be omitted for simple phrases.
---
Just as English color is an adj and noun, each color has the suffix 色 or se, ehich means color. 我最喜欢蓝色 i most like blue.
In common cases like red apple: 红苹果 you can just drop the se and de, we just know its there 蓝天 blue sky, 甜蛋糕 sweet cake. Ect

7:28 using de as possesive
Using it twice in one sentence its common to drop the first use.

You can also drop it when refering to fanily members or places closely tied to you

You're doing a wonderful job!!!!!! Kind of it reminded me of Raymond Murphy's "English Grammar in Use" (and the rest of his series) it was/is an self study English grammar book. I studied English grammar in my adulthood (in school I wasn't interested in it) all by myself using that book and it did such an amazing job. Laid the foundation so well that whatever I read in English after that just added little by little to the structure it had founded and voila one day I notice I can read and understand the things I read [in English.] {it's a good book by the way, I guess the author started with one and then it became so successful that he continued publishing/writing it in different names, etc. It would be a good source for inspiration 😇}{Let's not use the word copy 😁}

哪里 / 哪儿 both mean where yes? Just depends where you are. 哪个 is new... makes sense to mean which. But is that regional specific? I thought 哪 basically means either or depending on context. 13:20 huge help. Thank you. Numbers are weird when it's referring to the year. In Korean I still don't get it. Easy in Chinese. I think they're similar but you just explained it well
So, is 2025 二千二十五 or 二零二十五 or 二千零二十五

— @silverlining_1995

More User Perspectives

@

22:15 you can absolutely express a completed action in the future using the future perfect tense: "Come next year, I will have graduated", or "By the time you read this comment, I will have left."

I think the reason the future perfect sounds strange is that it's used very rarely, so when you hear "have ...-ed" you immediately associate it with the present/past perfect, which are for actions that were completed just now/in the past.
