Thanks for stopping by to sing a little P!NK with us, Claire! Looking forward to seeing one of YOUR songs in our catalog soon!! 🎤❤🎤❤🎤
0:00 Intro
0:40 Portillo's
6:48 Pequod's is NOT "authentic deep dish Chicago pizza." This is "pan pizza," and it is not unique to Chicago. However, it is indeed one of the best pizza places in the city, and much better than the actual Chicago deep dish pizza.
5:05 Al's Italian Beef
6:22 Lincoln Park
growing up in Elmwood Park 50s-60s, we went to Armand's on Grand Ave for thin crust pizza, deep dish sucks. Johnnies on North Ave for Italian Beef/pepper&egg sandwiches/Italian Ice. Russell's on North Ave for BBQ, and Gene&Judes in River Grover for THEE BEST Vienna Beef hot dogs any where...PERIOD
9:50 Pequod's Pizza
11:42 Billy Goat Tavern
You know that when you say the Italian beef is served with au jus ... you're saying it's saved with with jus. Why the multiple words that mean with?
My new song "Wants Me Back" is out now!

I actually go to Portillo's for the Burgers, I believe the best Burger out there! The Barnelli's they are sometimes paired with has an amazing Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo and you can get the Chopped Salad from either! You had Pan/Deep Dish Pizza, but Chicago is known for their Stuffed Pizza, Baccinos in Lincoln Park is a good place for that. Then again you don't like the loads of cheese lol Stuffed Pizza or Deep Dish is definitely a "decadent" food, overboard but I love it and you only need 1 or 2 slices to be full. Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder is also a good place. You probably won't like their Pizza pies (loads of Cheese), but the Oven Grinders (huge sandwiches) salad and bread...and dressings are so good. They only take cash and it's located across the street from the infamous "St. Valentine's Day Massacre" 🙃 Hope you return soon!

Food you should try (including ones you missed): Chocolate Cake Shake (Portillos), Garrets Popcorn Chicago Mix (Specifically Chicago Mix, get that sweet and salty on), Tavern style pizza, Fannie May chocolates.

Glad you enjoyed our beautiful city! Deep dish pizza is where tourists go. You need to get the real Chicago pizza which is tavern style. A thin crispy style cut in squares. Try Vito & Nick's Pizzeria

Lou Malnati's for deep dish, but Chicago has tons of different types of pizza.

Should gone deeper into the neighborhoods and find a place to get a good hot dog 🌭 and fries 🍟. Portillo's is very expensive 🫰🏻💰 and it highway 🛣️ robbery.

Oh Dear Lord! It's not an Italian Beef "sub." It's an Italian Beef sangwich...yes, I spelled that correctly.
@durkbrownleeRicobenes breaded steak
@henrymartin8349No one's mentioned Ricobene's & their breaded steak sammich. They have really good slices of pizza too. (Their chicken Vesuviu sammich ain't bad either)
@rebeccajutton2108You can get an Italian beef at SOO many places in Chicago and the difference between one and the next is negligible. Al's is way overpriced- especially that location on Michigan Ave. Also, you walked right past a place to get good deep dish or thin crust- Lou Malnati's. (I prefer Gino's East, but Uno and Giordano's are also good). Pequods is for yuppie hipsters.
Btw....deep dish is an occasional indulgence for most Chicagoans. In fact, many neighborhood pizzerias don't even offer deep dish. Normally we eat "tavern style" slightly crispy thin crust, cut into squares rather than wedges.
Most places in Chicago use Vienna Beef hot dogs, but Portillo's uses their own brand. Poppyseed bun is also preferred. Personally, I toss the sport peppers and eat the pickle spear separately.
Portillo's was founded in the north suburbs in 1963. They didn't have a location within Chicago city limits until 1994. In 2006 they began expanding to other states..California, etc.. There are several prominent "dog houses" in Chicago that are not chains and have become more preferred by locals since Portillo's "sold out".
The Polish sausage (either fried or grilled) with grilled onions and mustard is called a "Maxwell Street Polish". It was originally served by two neighboring food stands (Jim's Original, and The Express Grill) at the corner of Maxwell Street and Halsted.
I just watched your street tour of Chicago and was a little surprised you didn't stop to eat anywhere. I'm glad you did haven't seen the video yet so I don't know what you think of Chicago Pizza but I'm interested to find out.
1:02 The complete list of ingredients for Chicago style hot dog;
A poppy seed bun, an all beef hot dog, yellow mustard, chopped white onions, Bright neon green pickle relish, a dill pickle wedge, tomato slice or sometimes chopped, and a dash of celery salt. Without it all it ain't the Chicago hot dog. You drag it through the garden.
4:05 NO KETCHUP! Save that for your fries 😊
4:52 now cross the street go in Lou Malnati's Pizzeria and get a deep dish pizza.
12:12 Chicago was built on a swamp and was subject to frequent flooding so the downtown area was raised up every building 5 to 8 ft after the great fire. This is most visible along the river where your street level is fire above the water level which used to be the city's street level
Portillo's changed the ingredients in the chocolate cake and it just doesn't taste like it used to. They did the same thing Matts cookies did. I used to buy 4 to 6 bags of Matts cookies at once and 2 chocolate cakes were my standard order at Portillo's for years. Those days are gone. The corporate juggernauts are like a bull in a china shop.
@BossSpringsteen69Als is horrible, why do people keep saying to go here!!!! Johnnies or mr beef only. And pequads ??? Stop this nonsense already!!! Ask real Chicagoans please
@bigernmacrackin6176You tubers always eating pizza and hot dogs, your missing out on the best food in Chicago. That food is steak, great steak places in Chicago. Billy goats is an affordable bar in downtown Chicago.
@phildavis4575So why haven't you done Philadelphia?
@GIRLRAZROnly twenty-something transplants from Iowa think that Pequod’s is the best…
@cito4633Bonus points for neon green relish. I work right by that Portillos. Wow, I'm impressed- this girl can eat! The Polish is a must for a late night bite at Maxwell's.
My old neighbor in Little Italy is the founder of Al's Beef.
She should have tried Giordano's. It's the best, it's stuffed, and the sauce automatically comes on top.
Au Cheval is a must for the burger (be sure to get the house made thick cut bacon on it!), check out the Riverwalk next time, plenty of good restaurants and bars and generally a fun time with beautiful architecture all around. Maybe try to look around for a Gym Show sub if you want the craziest sandwich you've ever seen (but delicious). If you're a coffee fan, check out the Starbucks flagship roastery. I know there's one in NYC, but the Chicago location is their largest in the world, and in a wonderful part of the Miracle Mile
@jduncanandroidOh, Chicagoans have no problem with ketchup... they're fine for fries, burgers, meatloaf, etc... just not on a dog. :)
@jduncanandroidIt's not a Chicago style hot dog if the bun does not have poppy seeds
@keeperzeroNext time you're in town, try Johnnie's Beef on North Avenue in Elmwood Park. I always get their combo hot (sausage & beef w/ peppers). Oh, and is cash only. Try it =)
@Chavez787Most people eat tavern style pizza most of the time and deep dish just once in awhile. Lou Malnati’s is really good deep dish, but I have always loved Pizzeria Uno the best. Tavern style can be found at thousands of places in Chicagoland and the tristate area. I’ve lived lots of other places and there’s just no pizza as good anywhere else. Pequods is a different style altogether, not my thing but very popular. You kinda missed one outstanding thing, the bbq rib joints all around the city and suburbs. To me, the quintessential Chicago rib is lean, never mushy, with a tangy sauce. If anyone tells you that the ribs “fall off the bone,” run away. If you are downtown then I’d suggest Carson’s on Illinois. Personally I think the consistently best slab around is a train ride north to Highwood, IL, where the Nite N Gale has been serving them perfectly since at least the 1960s.
@beartrax34Experiencing Chicago foods at a portillos is like trying New York pizza at a Domino's in times square...lol. New Yorkers...ahahahah you can't make this stuff up.
@JesusRollsSo awesome to see you in our city!! Loved the video & fantastic edit, too. Thanks for visiting & enjoying some of the classic spots that get people to travel here. Also appreciate how much you enjoyed the uniqueness of the Billy Goat's burger. That place is super special to me. 🐐🍔
@HeySeanElySun Wah near the Argyle St stop for Peking Duck.
@wham2174 stops in the Bridgeport neighborhood alone are must stops.
Polish sausage from Maxwell on 31st & Canal
Breaded steak sandwich from Ricobenes on 26th
Meatball sandwich from Phil's Pizza on 35th
Chicken Vesuvio from Gio's near 27th and Lowe
All junk food in Chitcongo 🦧
@LionelLandoyou need to come south side and have ricobene's pizza and have their the works. its the best
@iinspireNPTry the itailian beef sasague sandwich
@alexandermorosjr3790I'm glad you enjoyed yourself in our city 💕 And I will be checking your music out. I like "foreign voice." I'm not sure if that's the title, but I'm a fan
@eboog74The Art institute, Shedd Aquarium, Science & Industry Museum is a must
@tommyc6066A trip to Berghoff's Restaurant & bar (formerly men's only several decades ago) for lunch & a beer
is a definite a required Chicago food experience, from this area local, IMO!
Another Must eat place is Chef Rick Bayless' Frontera Grill (authentic Mexican)
in the River North area as well!
Next time you're in town, check out the jibarito sandwiches at of the many Puerto Rican establishments- it's essentialy a sandwich made with mashed plantains ("tostones") instead of bread.
I know you tried the Maxwell Street Polish at Portillo's; maybe check out Jim's Original next time for a pork chop sandwich (w/ the bone still in it, so be careful). 😊
Also, if you wanted to try "tavern-style" pizza, check out either Vito & Nick's (if you're on the South Side) or Pat's (if you're on the North Side). If you're at Pat's, and you're not in a pizza mood, try their Chicken Vesuvio (another Chicago staple in the local Italian restaurants).
Great video; glad you enjoyed visiting my hometown!
Make sure you go to an authentic Chicago blues club, like buddy guy's or similar.
@AB-kw4mwMy friend and I were discussing Pequod's and how we didn't like it. We were at Malnati's at the time.
@johnmcbarron7282Lou Malnati's for Deep Dish, Michael's in Uptown for Tavern cut, sample the Phoenix in Chinatown for Chinese, and Manny's Deli for Corned beef (and photos of many Chicago Pols)
@Cubman2345Ketchup 😮
@hermangahn6353Pequod's needs to up their menu game - those things looked filthy!
Glad you enjoyed your tour!
Once you go underground, it's the subway.
@calme-dx2dpGet some Garrett's popcorn too...so good.
@calme-dx2dpin which a New Yorker discovers the that Chicago is not just a smaller version of her town ... but the iconic Lower Michigan Avenue branch of The Billy Goat Tavern —for all that it may've played a role in the genesis of the SNL "Olympia Cafe" skit— is not the long-gone original, originally located near the equally long-gone Chicago Stadium. Otherwise recommended for what it is and what is served.
@BGTuyauYou should try El Milagro tacos in Pilsen (18th and Blue Island). My go to order is a taco of carne asada and a taco of milanesa on corn tortillas!
@jorgerosas5138Apparently back in the day when establishments used meats from questionable sources they would cover up the taste with ketchup so in Chicago it became a source of pride to not use ketchup, meaning they were using quality meat. Also pro tip on the Chicago dog if you take the pickle spear off it becomes easier to eat. You take a bite of the dog, then a bite of the pickle as like a chaser and it tastes just as good and is easier to eat!
@benrama34Chicago is so big so much food its almost impossible to even pick 6 must try foods and drink....almost every culture or race is coverd out here Als sucks i swear i was disappointed, there's wayyy better places then them
I have no idea how that spot keeps getting attention, theyre fries suck cheeks bro.
Love portillos but lets start giving other spots some attention its alomost lazy to just pick these typical spots thats every single channel has covered...pizza don't let me get started on pizza People think when they come to Chicago they have to have the deep dish, Yes have the deep dish but Chicago in general is
Chicago pizza in general the best !!!!
Then the Hot Dog cmon everyone has covered the dam hot dog.
Lou Malnatis is a better deep dish or Labriola if you can find it. Both is different to Peqouds
