Join Craig Slater and guests 1997 F1 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve and Sky F1 Grid Insider Matt Amys as they look back on a dramatic Barcelona-Catalunya GP. After winning his 106th F1 race, and his 1st for Ferrari, can Lewis Hamilton push for the 2026 world title? The trio also discuss if the pressure is now on Mercedes and can Red Bull and Max Verstappen bounce back?

1. We would all love sir Lewis to be champion but you’re getting too excited.

2. Do we really need David “freebie” Croft anymore? The race in Barcelona was well commented on without a bloke who calls everything excellent and begs for freebies. Is he impartial?

I'm Canadian and love Giles, followed F1 since Jacques, but Lewis is the best ever...since Fangio. Lewis could have won 10 WDC - lost his rookie year WDC by 1 point, Rosberg was exceptional for that season, 2021 was his on merit....Jacques is just voicing what is his opinion with a small sprinkle of salt to get views.

The question is would Lewis have been able to actually overtake the Mercedes without the safety car?

Lewis developed the car at Mercedes like all the other great champions did

What so we start applying rules to some teams and not others because we feel like it? This is as corrupted outcome as it can be. More than half the cars did not get a penalty, so that means that some did it right and others did not. there is no compromise unless you apply the same rules to everyone.

Jac, you sure did do a turn around with Hamilton huh? You were exactly who Hamilton was talking about, you kept rapping on him, telling him he was hurting his legacy, you speak out of both sides of your mouth. Maybe that's why your dad was the better driver. 😂

In fairness Lewis wrote himself more than Jacques did last season. A lot of Lewis fans were asking the same question and there was questions to be asked. But anyone who thought Lewis was finished are completely wrong. For me 2025 was a write off season and it was always 2026 if Ferrari could find a good car.

Looking back at the highlights of season so far it is without doubt that the most exciting 10 laps in Formula 1 this season and probably for a long long time in F1 was at the start of the Australian Grand Prix. The FIA should of stuck with the regulations we had at the start of the season. Far better racing even if some of the passes could be classed as artificial, its still way more exciting that what we have seen since the change. Its great to see Lewis win in Barcelona but again we are seeing processions and the excitement came from the pit strategy and a VSC. So we've lost what could have been the greatest season ever because a load of people moaning about the regs. Some people can be so ridiculously negative at times.

This piece is rather bias…

Charles could have stayed with Ferrari for 20 years and not win a championship, That's how Ferrari is ,So if and it's a big if they can improve the car and move the team forward Charles will benefit big time even after Lewis retires.

@sopissedoff
@

Technically Lewis has 9 championships to his name if u include 2021 and the disgusting penalty the cheats in the FIA give Lewis after the podium in spa 2007 and removed his win to favour Kimi and ferrari.

@sopissedoff

Dream on

@Terrence-m2t
@

Jacques Villeneuve joking about Kimi relaxing by leaning his neck to one side. It’ll be funny if Kimi posts a photo of driving while leaning his arm on the side of the car. 😂

i really would like to think Lewis could, but that car just isn't good enough its going the right way but well short of even the second best car

@alangunningham5667
@

Yes, please please stop talking about Kim. . . . . I have no interests in private life and neither should good journalists. . . .stick to racing please

@Ashsyediii

He wins a fluke sprint and Barc. win and you think he is going for the championship ? Delusional at best . LEC will continue to finish ahead of him for the rest of the season , bar any bad luck like the last 2 races . Get a grip fanboys .

@bitrhbj56

Can Lewis still win a race ? Can Lewis still win a championship? Can Lewis can Lewis can Lewis stfu.

Ofcourse he can

@chriseze8893
@

May be he can do it the way Kimi Raikkonen did in 2007.

Truth: Frédéric Vasseur and Technical Director Loïc Serra have cut the ROT out the Ferrari garage. Staff responsible for unauthorized car setup changes between Friday and Saturday—specifically those that reverted Hamiltons setup direction to historical baseline of Leclerc's were "reassigned" to the Ferrari Road-Car production line, paving the way for a new, UK-based engineering pipeline on Lewis Hamilton's side.

You guys can't report the raw truth, but I can!

Saying Charles’ teammate was Vettel like it was some average drive … dude

@Wooolf22
@

calm down, LH has won one GP in two years, with 8 dnf, not exactly amazing. if he wins a few more than you can talk about championship......geeez

If the Ferrari is on a par with the Mercedes then all four of them drivers will win races this year. Lewis knows how to mount a title fight and develop a championship winning car my only worry is can FERRARI keep putting upgrades on the car that work all the way until Abu Dhabi. Leclerc antonelli and Russell haven’t fought for a championship in F1 and if Ferrari do have a championship contender I think Lewis and his knowledge and experience would come out on top. Also Mercedes reliability is a major concern for them as there is genuine reliability issues with there car. So reliability is going to play a major part. So far this season the Ferrari as bin reliable. If Ferrari are fighting for the win in Austria and Britain then this 2026 F1 championship is ON. I’m a Lewis Hamilton fan and watching that Barcelona GP nothings impossible. My fingers are crossed that Ferrari have a race winning car and if Lewis Hamilton did win his 8th title with Ferrari it would be the greatest moment in F1 history. Also I genuinely believe Max Verstappen is going to be a Mercedes driver from 2027. Max whole demeanour this season as bin different I no he not in a race winning car but max is a different person this year i never liked his attitude but as a driver by far the best driver in F1 history what ever records Lewis leaves F1 with I do genuinely think max is going to break them and set the all time record before he retires from Formula 1. Let’s hope we see a fight till the end of the season with two teams it would be great to see and would set 2027 up for an iconic year.

If the FIA and Formula 1 can pull Abu Dhabi 2021, then how is anyone supposed to believe Lewis will be permitted to win or that he wont be trifled with?

@omargraham8591

Hamilton has won the Barcelona GP 7 times. And of those 7 wins, he has gone on to win the Driver's Championship 5 times.

@CGLow-r5s

Its too early to call. Give it a few more races. The car need to be consistent and the pit crew have to have good race strategies.

@ninoloso
@

Please stop with the pressure and expectation, it's just one win. Yes let's enjoy it but let's not get carried away

@Urbish
@

Lazenby, Pinkham, Kravitz, Collins, Davidson, Chandok, Croft, Brooks, Schiff?- all on the SkyF1 payroll. All of them absent. WTF?

@davidmack8021
@

Where has Jacques said Lewis should retire? Quite the opposite he backed Lewis for more titles and was excited when he made the move to Ferrari... Ppl need to chill on the indy500, indycar, f1 champion. He always speaks his mind.

@Farseglarna
@

That was a really good conversation. Thanks to all involved. Special thanks to Craig.

@Bascobits
@

Ferrari could have beat Mercedes in 17 and 18 if they didn’t have Lewis. Young Leclerc dominated a 33 year old Vettel and Hamilton is 41. If you switched Hamilton and Vettel in 2017-18 Hamilton probably still has 7 titles and Ferrari has 2 more.

@jbarber1016
@

Antonelli did pass Russell but he also exceeded track limits so he would have ended behind in the end if his engine held up

@ivarb629

I am a huge Lewis fan and it is an absolute pleasure to see him winning again.

It is quite funny to see how fast the narrative around a driver changes in the space of a few races.

Max and Jos definitely angling for RBR to become VR IMO. This is the only thing that can explain Jos' politicing from within for years. "If we stay, the team is ours".

All these f1 broadcasters and pundits have suddenly changed their tune - i thought lewis was finished? now apparently leclerc is washed. These lot haven’t got a clue. Should be renamed to ‘F1 Clown Show’.

@sunizzo
@

Craig on LH being the greatest individual British sportsman of all time 100% correct. Only Steve Redgrave, Chris Hoy, Brad Wiggins, Jim Clark and Jackie Stewart come close in that they were globally successful for long periods. In another era Andy Murray might have dominated tennis.

@tenmantaylor
@

Him mentioning Charles getting the lifetime contract won’t push him is valid, while yes both drivers are chasing a championship Lewis is at the tailed of a career that might not see this opportunity again. Besides the chip, what’s driving Charles if he’s already got a seat till forever

@thatgoodstuff1000

Get Jacques off this show. We don't want to see him.
