Taking Florida vacations for over 40 years has reassured my decision to never move there. The traffic, noise, cost and over crowding is not conducive to peaceful living. I still love Florida, but in small doses.

Florida complains about retirees 🙂.
It's good they find another place like South Carolina.

Met a woman at a $4200/week health retreat in NC. She was from Manhattan; says she was attorney; looking to move to Florida. After telling her my best years were spent in the southeast, she said the southern accent was a screwed up accent. I told her she might want to go straight from the airport to her 50+ community and not venture out because we Floridians are diverse and not all of us have the NY accent. Many of us have a "screwed up" accent.

46 years old, lived in Florida my whole life and I lived here in the best of times. In 2020 that all changed and now every dollar I earn is for the goal of retiring early and leaving. And possibly leaving the United States, we peaked a couple decades ago.

Do you ever get tired of predicting a housing crash that's not going to come or ever come?

@Jake-nq5fb

It’s still just comes down to supply and demand real estate was real hot for a few years and so a whole bunch of people got into it and became real estate agents now it’s cooling down and of course the real estate agents aren’t gonna have as much to do and they’re gonna have to quit and find something else supply and demand.

In Pinellas County, prices dropped 50% in some cases, a $350k condo sold $160k, beaches booming, houses are crazy, i was interested in a $450k home, but nothing out there,

@psfgtech
@

I left Florida to another no sales tax state. The house I sold 2 years ago has only increased $10k. However, the new home has increased $85k in 2 years! Glad I got out. The hurricanes, insurance, government are some reasons we left after 31 great years which included building 2 houses!

Family moved to just north of Ft Lauderdale in '72. I was just a young teenager, hated it but eventually it became home for 55 years and I recently left Florida. In those days there was much less people and everyone seemed to live 2-3 miles of the coast. Had more of a laid back island feel then. Those days are way over for Ft Lauderdale and Miami. If you've got the money and can live on the beach, a condo, a mini mansion on a canal go for it. If your a middle class working stiff I do not recommend it, at least not in south Florida. Once you get up to Palm Beach and further north it gets a bit better but it's getting crowded too.

Moved out of Jacksonville after 38 yrs to South Lyon Mich on a lake 55 and up bought condo for 59,000. Best move . Saving money , seasons are great , clean walmarts and no litter or overdevelopment. Florida is a hot mess. Jax 1.2 million now census says 2 million by 2035. Hot crowded repeat again and again. Add in litter and homelessness and derelicts everywhere.
Bye Bye Florida Hello clean living with American people and small town life.

Yes everyone leave. You're ruining our beautiful state. We don't want liberals who ruined their states to ruin ours! GTFOH PLEASE!

Prices have to come down, Its Realtors that were the problem in the first place valuation of a Property 30% higher than what they were actually worth, Making the seller believe they were sitting on a Fortune, A $1 m home literally in a few months became worth $1.3 million erasing over 50% of its potential buyers, In other words putting that house out of reach of second time buyers who then decided to just stay where they are, It was a trend that escalated and now your seeing the Consequences, Its not the Market its the Valuers Fault for over prised property,

I have a "friend" trying to convince me to buy a home with his mortgage company, he said you can always refinance when interest rates hit 3% again. LOL he doesn't really talk to me because I told him the market is going to crash, worst than 2008. He doesn't like my pessimistic outlook because its a hit to his income. What a guy... Yeah, I have no friends because I can predict the future and understand reality with 95% accuracy. No one likes someone who understands truth.

@UHavBnProgdAwkn

Home prices have fluctuated by as much as 30-50% in alot of areas over the last five years. Insurance and property taxes are outpaceing home equity growth in most areas. Buying a home these days is a real gamble.

@douga9253

i’ve lived in Florida now for over 16 Years wonderful Pl. to live wonderful people from all kinds of different places as to this commentator and you’ve never owned a home – you get negative 100% of your rent payments back or opportunity to profit on your rent payments if you’re a renter. If you’re a homeowner with a mortgage, you’re basically renting from the bank, but you get tax deductions and you have an opportunity to build equity in your home overtime however, if your renter you have zero opportunity to benefit from homeownership.

@StevenWeiss-m7e

FL cost of living has slyrocketed. Insurance has skyrocketed. The heat has become untolerable for 7-8 months of the year. Hurricanes are stronger and do far more damage.
DONT COME TO FL. Save yourself a big financial mistake.

I've lived in the northeast for 70+ years. What I have experienced in PA in the past 3 years in regards to heat is unprecedented. It may not be just in FL and TX. We used to get 90+ degree heat about 10, maybe 20 days throughout the entire summer season. In the past few years it is probably closer to 50% of the summer season. The worst part is that the evenings were always cooler but not so much now. I used to rely on the evenings to cool the house in preparation for the next day so as to reduce or eliminate using the a/c - that isn't an option anymore. I think it is actually a change in weather patterns and not just Florida or other normally warmer states.

I was seriously thinking about moving out of Florida. But the company buying my house dropped the price offered, and i couldn't find an apartment affordable enough. So I'm staying. Just hope i can find more affordable home insurance that our state gov. promised years and years ago.

Car insurance in Florida is insane as well

@JMS49NY
@

It’s difficult to make a decision bc EVERYTHING changes. Wherever anyone currently lives may be good right now but as the years go by our ideas, plans, needs change. There’s no one place to really settle in. I guess the best thing to do is make the decision best for you at the moment based on what you know now.

We own a homes in Florida and in the midwest. Problem in Florida is that they keep repeating the same cycle. Low interest rates and ‘gimmick’ loans and aggressive realtors get people in properties they cannot afford to maintain or to maintain the payments. The realtor implies fantasy appreciation rates which only occur in short term bubbles. Taxes, despite the BS are very reasonable. The mill rate for our Florida home is much smaller than our midwest home. The insurance rate is less per dollar value than our mid west home. Florida has always been hot and humid in the summer. I prefer the occasional hurricane to the severe weather and tornados and freezing ice storms of the midwest. In Florida we live four miles inland and not in a low lying area so flooding is not an issue. People, get over it
 this BS makes for good social media gossip.

There is no such thing as greener pastures...If your life is ok now why move to a shitehole state only to realize you effed up and now hove to sell out and move back and of course lose your arse in the sale. If your pasture is green already then stay where you are at it dont get no better than green.

@akita96th

Full of houses here that are vacant most the year until winter when they snowbird it from their multiple other properties, while families are forced to face high rent or living out of vehicles.

@charliecampbell1232
@

Floriduh is becoming a shitehole country. Only the rich can afford to stay there. Rich people dont worry about high costs of insurance. When people leave and house prices go down these rich MAGATS buy it all up pennies on the dollar and wait for prices to rise again and they will.

@akita96th

There is no perfect place. I have lived on Maui, Laguna Beach CA, On the beach in Virginia, Garden City long island, The Caribbean , Naples Florida... I've considered Italy but I've learned the lesson. The grass isn't greener.
