ARCHITECTS The Classic Symptoms Of A Broken Spirit album reaction & review by musician

Video Overview & Insights

This Architects The Classic Symptoms Of A Broken Spirit album reaction & review is genuinely my first time hearing the songs in each of the video clips.

This was their newest album when I became a fan and I love it. I appreciate their old work but since all our gods have abandoned us they’ve just been making hit after hit

14:19 Spit The Bone

It's their grooviest album ever, sure it's not metalcore but I like the diversity across the songs, the atmosphere is brighter and more energetic than previous albums. Something that is a healthy evolution considering their discography

I would place this as their take on Muse/Nine Inch Nails. I mean that as a compliment. Love this band!

31:44 When We Were Young

Hello, love the way you react and share your thoughts on the songs as a musician and drummer. Didn't find other social media so i just type here. Is there any chance that you will listen and react to Vildhjarta's 2021 album Masstaden Under Vatten on this channel? I have no words to describe how good they are. I really envy you if you haven't listened to this album yet

36:55 Doomscrolling

I remember having Animals from the previous album playing all day in my head, be very afraid is like an Animals 2.0 to me, somewhat simple but heavy, catchy and overall a great song to me, sadly can't say the same about the rest of the album, I grew uninterested very quick while listening to it, but be very afraid... I'm gonna get burned out of that song by listening to it all day lol

43:41 Born Again Pessimist

I see both sides of the coin here. Your favorite tracks were also my favorite tracks on this record. Where we differ is that I really thought this was a great record overall. There wasn’t any particular moment here that made me go “WOW!” But I would say this was a really fun listen and I see myself returning to it quite a bit over the next few weeks here. Just really solid ‘core-adjacent arena rock. I also agree with you that this won’t be for everyone and old school fans might see this as a turnoff. But for me personally I thought it was a fun ride. Always enjoy listening to these albums for the first time with you. Keep up the great work!

49:00 A New Moral Low Ground

Still working my way through this reaction/review (love the full album reviews btw!!); however my thoughts on this album are that one of my favourite metalcore bands have become the best rock band in the world. I was incredibly "meh" about the singles, I wasn't really expecting to give the album more than one listen through but somehow it's ended up on constant rotation and is now in my Top 5, possibly 3 albums of the year. Whilst in isolation nothing stands out, it flows brilliantly as an album, it's stupidly catchy in places and just solidifies their move from metalcore to rock - and I don't hate it.

This album didnt make me feel anything, zero. Never thought I'd say that about an Architects album...

1:01:01 Be Very Afraid

OK, I confess that I've only listened to the first three songs so far. I will come back and listen to this in similar bite-sized pieces, but that is all I can manage with this group. I do love what they do, and how they do it, but I really struggle to listen to them for periods of more than 15 minutes - even with the added benefit of your analysis. Not sure if it's them or me!

By the way, and a propos of nothing, Conquer Divide dropped a new one this afternoon - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5x7dbJFJSWs - just saying...

Agree with most of what you said. It's a good album just doesn't hit the same highs as their previous albums for me. It's growing on me over time though. Will be interested to see how some of the new stuff lands at the live gigs

When I do my reaction videos I don't press pause because I don't want to interrupt the natural flow of the music as it was originally intended by the artist. I try to vocalise my thoughts in real time as I listen to the song, and then summarise my reaction afterwards.

I'm not suprised that you mentioned the sameyness right after Doomscrolling, I've seen others feel exactly like that exactly after listening to that song. I'm really disapointed in that song having that samey instrumentation and feel, when the lyrics and theme would have made me expect something a lot more darker, bassy or even electronic sounding. I fully agree with you at the end in saying it should have been an EP. I think they did a mistake in releasing all the songs standing out a bit more as the singles beforehand.

The album feels a bit like a For Those That Wish to Exist B-Sides to me, made as they couldn't tour, would explain why it got released so quickly, though it misses the like key aspects of what made that album great which, I guess, is why it is here not there. Specifically the vocal melodies kinda blending together is criticism I've read elsewhere and it does explain things for me.

The highs of the album are high, but the lows are very much appropiate for just being looped in the background. And when I listen to the album that way, I hardly mind it, it hardly makes me want to stop and focus on the music, which an album like For Those That Wish To Exist absolutely does. I liked them embracing synths more, really love that bass and intro in Deep Fake. I really hope this is basically a filler album and that the next one will show off the creativity that they definitely have not lost, as seen by the good songs in here, a bit more. I'd love for them to continue using a more synthy sound whilst combining it with the orchestral elements I kinda started to associate them with.

My personal favourite of the album is without a doubt a new moral low ground. From the newly released ones, it's probably burn down my house, I just really love the moody vibe they went for here. Living is killing us and be very afraid are other stand-outs.
