A blueprint to defeat Putin: Why the Frontline doesn’t matter anymore | Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges

Video Overview & Insights

Whoever controls Crimea will win the war in Ukraine, a top Lieutenant has predicted.

that goes for ukr as well. they cant hold crimea either for thos exact same reasons,.

— @NotJustRogan

According to retired U.S. Army Lieutenant General Ben Hodges, the gruelling war of attrition along the eastern frontlines no longer dictates the final outcome of the conflict.

Instead, Hodges argues that Crimea is the ultimate "decisive terrain" and the absolute focal point of the entire war. In his view, a sustainable peace is completely impossible if Russia maintains its grip on the peninsula, as Moscow will continue to use it to choke off Ukraine's access to the Sea of Azov and paralyze vital economic shipping ports like Odesa. Simply put: whoever controls Crimea wins the war.

The frontline will always matter morons.

As vast as Russia is, five metropolitan areas and Russia is broken. The air campaign is surgical, meaning at the end of this war, Europe has to deal with 144 million Russians that are brainwashed, unable and unwilling to accept defeat, … good luck to live in peace with the most cruel people … who don’t value their own lives

I wonder how much longer this war can last? If the supply collapses this war should be over very soon …. As much I don’t understood why the war lasted as long as it already did, i don’t see at the moment the catalyst to end this war. When I hear and see that they do vacation on the Black Sea including Crimeain the middle of a war zone, in the middle of an active war … i can’t corroborate both news or facts.

This war in my mind is far from over.

Submersible drones would allow much larger payload of explosives to attack the bridges infrastructure. It's likely there are counter measures but effort could be made to verify if they can be defeated. The effort and destruction of the bridges would be a large swing against Russia's aggression and potential leaving Crimea.

Ukraine regaining the control of Crimea is just a pipe dream. Crimea and Odessa are historically Russian. Russia MUST NOT agree to anything peace until Odessa is firmly liberated. To say that Russia is loosing the war is propaganda at it highest. Ukraine MUST accept the fact that Crimea is lost forever. Deal with it.

@josepholuigbo9532
@

Quite right. Ukraine must first take back the land bridge, completely isolate Crimea, and then take it back.

Ukraine takes Crimea and terrorizes Moscow, the war is over. Putin will fall out a window and his replacement will have a better mindset on dealing with Europe.

Ukraine should leave the Kerch bridge in tact to give them access to occupy Krasnodar as a safety zone against little russia.

i hope in the future russia will be cut off from access into the black sea by turkey and the east sea by scandinavian countries.
this way russia has no access to any convenient trade routes with the west, but have to move their harbours to the east part of the country in the asian side and the northern siberian part.

It’s an “an old map”.
I wish I still had a map of my country. Travelling 1600 km to the coast, I like to see how far each town is from the other. Or the distance to the 4th
Google maps doesn’t do that

The global havoc over oil and gas accelerates the world's transition to electric transport and renewable power generation. One day in the approaching future we won't care about fossil fuels to the vast extent we do today.

The front line had ceased to play a role years ago. This war will end when one side or the other collapses—whether logistically, economically, or politically.

@Skoell1983

I agree it become tough for Russia in Crimea. Hopefully it will help decrease missiles being fired at Ukraine as this is one of the big issue. + obviously the logistic support to the frontline.

What I am curious about is where we are gonna be come fall if these attacks continues or even intensifies. Will Russia even be able to take in this years harvest with all the fuel shortages? What effect does that have on people? Will it even effect global food prices and sway global popular opinion on the war? I'm just saying there's more to cone from this than just smoke and traffic jams at the petrol station.

Ukraine has had the necessary equipment to sink/destroy the Kerch Bridge for a long-time. Somewhere there's a high-command order stopping them, and it's costing lives daily.

@IME9

My armchair general opinion: feint at Crimea. Let troops pile in...then blow the Kerch bridge and move south from Kerson instead.

You have isolated Crimea on both ends and have fire control over the highway from Rostov-on-Don. No good resupply routes, and the blown bridges keeping goods out of Crimea also keep troops in. Let Russians cool their heels in Crimea like the Germans in Denmark.

Ukraine needs to do reconnaissance on trains that usually run across the Kerch bridge. Build or obtain A very powerful Engine & several rail cars. Pack the rail cars completely full of ammonia Nitrates. Set with primers & timers. Using amounts around five thousand tons or more. So an explosion the size of the Beirut explosion would happen. Choose a secluded area of tracks, to enter the engine & rail cars onto a direct route of the bridge. Choosing a point where the blast will destroy the super structure that the train is on. But also the automobile roadway next to the railway superstructure. That type of explosion could almost guarantee several spans of roadway to fall along with an entire section of superstructure to collapse. I believe it would be a powerful enough blast to close the bridge down. Because of major blast damage to a very large section of the structure.

I agree with Ben, Ukraine can't accept a loss on Crimean Peninsula. Even if Putin is ousted. Another future leader could use it as a starting base or stepping stone to try to invade the feast of Ukraine again.

Ben Hodges, Sir, I noticed a mole on the palm of your hand. I strongly recommend that you have it examined by a dermatologist as soon as possible, just to be safe. Moles on the palms or soles can sometimes be concerning and should be checked professionally to rule out skin cancer.
