834. The best way to learn a language according to research (Article)
Video Overview & Insights
Reading an article by Gavin Lamb (PhD) about the conclusions of academic studies into language learning, and adding my own reflections and comments. What does research tell us about the best way to learn a language? What are the most important things to consider? What are the best methods? The article boils it all down to three main points.

@englishandknowledge7457....that you get into your language flow and then the rest of study but we study that which you don't do being ENGLISH and as such we are Struck, ever.....(of no flow)...
@tuanshiraz5457Hello! I'm from Russia and I've been teaching English for more then 20 years and I'm still learning it and try to get more fluency, accuracy and better pronouncation. As for teaching English, there are 2 different stategies for begginers and other students. If I do my work well with begginers (I mean, when we learn first 500 English words and first 60 ways to make sentence), we can go to another level of English connected with communication and follow all these prescriptions from the article. But if a person doesn't have this base in English, there is no use to talk about communication.
@polina_art_psyI just wasted my time while trying to speak in English but the journey feel infinite as such...and of influencing English by other language is party wrong for I speak Tamil, Malay and Sinhala (Sri Lanka) and if it is influencing and then which one?.....rather...

@AnshikaVerma-u6eYour Podcast make me happy. Im 80 live in Thailand all my friends coming from english spoken countries . When we meet us the discussion is very exhaustive they speaking so tough. @GroverHeltzelThank you Luke for this podcast. When I listen to one episode like this, my English gets a bit better, and my journey of learning English is becoming enjoyable.
@kendyoshiroIf we keep the point of view on a person, yes there will definitely be a range of methods that work better for you than others.
But we have to also recognize that certain methods, and only a hyper Focus on them, can be objectively or at least with a lot of certainty, deemed to be ineffective.
And I bring the use case of Japan. Their English Curriculum and tests are mental. They memorize vocabulary tables, endless grammar, go to extremely complicated lengths that even natives have a hard time with. Yet their level of proficiency is one of the lowest in Asia.
Edit:
Yes, you can sound like a native. Studying the pronunciation, the sounds of the language. Also giving some time to IPA on the language specific sounds. And interiorizing that knowledge can take some time, and it's hard. But it pays off. I will admit that some people have a natural ability to pick up on the sounds and how to make them really easily and skip over "the hard path". But it's not this impossible thing that no one can conquer.
Im here learning Spanish lol

Good evening teacher Luke, I hope you are doing fine.

I haven't finished my chores yet, though the episode has finished.
So, I stopped for leaving a comment here to say to you that your podcasts improved my English and also watching topics I interested in English.
Thanks for your efforts and your enjoyable episodes.

@danbrown9370Good 👍👍👍
@OktamboySultonmurotovI'm a beginner in English and I'd like someone to give me information on how to memorize English words or sentences as quickly as possible so I can speak with those around me.
@Alitech-UKPolyglots are just people who like to gloat about their poly ponderous pompous patois proficiencies.
Never call yourself one. Learn the culture and relish the literature regardless of language.
Steve Kaufman looks like a very nice guy but his mastery of most languages he speaks is very questionable. and that includes languages he's supposed to be speaking at a high level (French and Chinese for example)
@pablito-l7w25:00 it's true, because my second language is Russian, and Ive learned it without any tutors , just by listening and reading, my Russian level is c1 now, but now I'm trying to learn english as a third language, wish me luck 🤞

@tomwickham8938Thank you Luke for this informative video. I teach English ad FL in Indonesia ❤❤❤
@UliSharbinieMany thanks for your comprehensive episode about the best ways to learn a language. Wouldnt you call the best way as "global method"? languages used to be taught with endless sessions of grammar and meaningless exercises without a real context; having that "global" exposure to different scenarios, different speaker's backgrounds, makes your mindset already ready for quick changes and indeed it would speed up the learning process
@ivantomasi7495amazing

@ShafiqurRahman-n4h9tThanks, Mr. Luke. I actually found this episode more informative and helpful than the article itself, even though it was written by a PhD in linguistics.
@HieuNguyen-yz9kuI have a language dedicated podcast too!
@thelanguageworkerYes recent research that people can learn anything at any age.... So age doesn't matter in learning
@syedtahirbukhari8377Guys, learning English is a lifelong journey. I understand you. I have been there too. All what you gonna do is to speak every single day with English speakers because that’s how you are going to learn new vocabulary . Speaking with non English speakers is fine too but it depends on their level of knowledge of the language. So, don’t worry and don’t frustrate yourself because at the end you will speak the language.
@zinebjalal1628He is best.no body like Lukes.❤
