The biggest regret I have is selling my classic muscle cars. The top regret was the 442-W-30!

Too bad Chevrolet didn’t put the 427 aluminum block in the street version.

When I was a younger that sound was awesome because they were brand new cars at the time. And they still sound fantastic.

id love a 70 Chevelle but fuck the old timers the car isn't worth 50K+ on the low end for a ok to bad condition at best or 100K+ for a full restored one.

In this video, the red Ford sounded best although I’m partial to the 442 as I had one.

My mom bought a 1968 Dodge Polara with a 383 from the captain of the state patrol, talk about power. I had a 1967 GTO just like the black one in the video except mine had a 400ci 385 HP. My best sounding one was a 1968 Chevelle with a 454 that was bored to a 462 ci going through 2 inch header and a 2 1/2 inch exhaust.

Those wonderful sounds really bring back memories. From the time I was 12 years old in 1972, I was working in the garage with my friends and older brothers, souping up cars. Our club was all into the Chevy’s. Belaire, Nova, Chevelle, Camero, and we even built a Vega with a 396 that did wheelies. Most weren’t street legal and built to run the 1/4 mile track at the State Fair. Us younger kids were just learning the trade and we each wanted a certain car when we got old enough. Mine was a 71 Chevelle SS. One of the uncles told me that I was getting pretty good with my mechanic work and maybe one day, they’d find me my dream car. Working long hours for free and skipping school, I kept plugging along. Every now and then, the older guys would kick us younger guys out of the shop while they worked in secret. We understood, the muscle car business is pretty shady. Stolen parts and back room deals, favors traded, etc. I’d just turned 15 and a half, and got my driver’s license through school. The older guys were working on a car in secret and that was nothing new. We were barred from the shop for months sometimes. A couple days after my 16th birthday, one of the uncles asked me to check out this car they were working on. I walked in the garage and everyone was there with silly hats on and blowing those party horns, “Happy Birthday, Brian!” They ripped the tarp off a 71 Chevelle SS painted royal blue metal flake with two white racing stripes down the hood and trunk. (Just like I wanted) I was in shock. John walked over and handed me the keys, gave me a hug and I started crying. My dream car is now mine. The rebuilt 396 was better than stock but everything was street legal. Cragar rims, jacked up, 50’s in the rear, 60’s in front and a posi rear end. 4 speed tranny. Suddenly all the girls who ignored me in high school wanted a ride in my car. 😂
But like a few comments I read here, we didn’t know what we had. I sold the car and moved to California to live on boats with my dad. We sailed to Hawaii and life goes on. A smart kid would have dropped a tarp over the car and never drove it. It’ll be worth a fortune someday. In the history of mankind, no kid has ever been that smart. 😂

THE best, well my favorite, sound was a Mopar big block, with headers and Thrush mufflers. NOT cherry bombs, The straight through Thrush mufflers.
Remember we used to put some gasoline in the cherry bombs and light it to burn out the fiberglass? Remember that ungodly beautiful sound?
Mopar big block + headers + Thrush straight thru mufflers were even better.

And since nobody asked, my favorite mufflers for any sleeper ride, was the Thrush Turbo.

Should have left the galaxy out of this line up.

This was great, but it needed a Chevy 396.

EPA regs have destroyed anything people used to find appealing.

Unfortunately, none of these cars sounded like that straight off the dealer floor. Heavy modification was required. That’s what truly made these vehicles fun. So much aftermarket stuff and fairly easy to work on! A wonderful era!

I had a 68 Chevelle SS, 396, 4-speed (matching #’s) 16k original miles, and I had a 1970 LS5, 454 in it. Wasn’t an LS6…but it was fun. 🫡👍🏼❤️

As a 13 year old kid in 1964 and already a performance car geek, I read Hot Rod magazine and others regularly. Suddenly there it was... the '64 Pontiac GTO with 389 CI and tri-power carbs. At that moment there was nothing else like it or if there was, it wasn't well advertised. I wished I had been a few years older with a solid job so I could buy one of these Detroit marvels brand new. Nowadays at 74, I have a pristine 2021 Chevy LT1 Camaro with a naturally aspirated 455 HP & 455 FtLbs of torque. Thankfully I got this when I did as all of these HiPo cars are going away soon or sooner as the industry moves further into electric cars and similar ilk... BORING!! While the sound of my LT1 is so well muffled that it hardly resembles the sound of the 60's, if I really get on it, it thrills me to no end... and it's far cheaper than a similarly powered 'Vette which is just out of my $$ range. Enough... God Bless HiPo cars as the kick in the ass is what you pay for and the right cars give you that and much more!!

For factory small blocks I really liked the sound of the Dodge 340 and the Chevy 302 Z28. They were both fast too.

When my first kid came... I had to give up my 69 Z/28. I ported and flowed the heads, new cam with rollers, Holly 750 on a Victor Jr. manifold... new exhaust with cherry bombs. The sound of her even at idle (the cam). That girl was baad. Lost a little power at low end but after 3,000 rpm... OMG... LOOK OUT!!! I had a lot of cars but nothing I had before... or after performed like that Chevy 302. I miss her... a lot.

The Old mussel cars sound so good. My late father had a 68 Dodge Cornett with a 440 Six Pack. These cars sound way better than these cars of today. Especially the small Japanese cars that sounds like a mosquito on steroids

I love the sound of a V-8 but there isn't a one of these that are stock. Thats fine too and these all sound wonderful but don't try to pass them off as from the factories.
