LOL I once fertilized my garden here in Canada with fish fertilzer, the next day I found an enormous hole where a black bear had dug up the entire bed. It looked like a bulldozer had attacked the garden.

I live in chilly North Yorkshire and have struggled to grow tomatoes outside for the last 10+ years. This year we have a greenhouse so I am hoping for spectacular results! I’ve just planted 9 into grow bags so 🤞🤞🤞.

My fish cleaning station has a garbage disposal and drain into a large barrel that I end up with great fertilizer juice and have less smell and quicker but I also catch alot of fish
Nothing says summer like tomatoes, and with warmer days upon us it’s time to get them planted!

good video, I am retired now and plan on growing various veggies come springtime since I live in NW part of Maine and will concentrate mostly on tomatoes since they are my favorite. Let me explain my area which I will use. The garden will be facing south of my house towards the road and will get plenty sun from east to west all day and plan to grow indeterminant tomatoes, a variety. i will be growing them in 5 gallon buckets and letting them get to about 7 feet at most by pruning the top when time comes and will support them from above with clips and a string from an 8 foot support system with a 10 foot length per row. My question for you is, am I better running the rows north to south or east to west for the best coverage of sunlight? I will have 3 rows on each side of my stone walkway across the garden. Any other suggestion you may have would be appreciated.

I love Tomatoes, full of Lycopene❤🍅!
@RobsWorldAdventuresShould i be taking the bottom stems and leaves off when the fruiting starts so energy will go on producing big friuts? Some of the bottom leaves are yellowish anyhow?
@sarahsavahnahI live in zone 8 and suffer with curling leaves :( Tomatoes fruit but take almost all summer to turn red.
@dthomascfulhi. I have a question. My plant has give us lots of tomatoes so far , the part that the tomato is attached to , when you remove the fruit will that part keep regrowing tomatoes or do you cut off or leave it , is it a 1 grow thing , sorry having trouble explaining it , cheers For any reply
@eternalrageukgaming4482A garden experiment showed that fish heads made the plants grow slower. Breaking down the fish heads takes time and energy, so the plant is deprived of nutrients it would otherwise have. Perhaps the following year, when the fish is entirely broken down into nutrients, the vegetables planted above will thrive.
@quicknumbercrunch8691Very much rewarding to grow tomatoes. Thanks for giving hints on best conditions for tomato growing. I learnt about the importance of pruning off lower leaves. The use of tomato tower or tomato cages is really an awesome idea. It was a great idea to demonstrate making of a tomato cage. Wow I never thought about accompanying the tomato plants with some flowers. That’s really a noble idea. Thank you so much GrowVeg.❤
@MaryzEasyRecipesA little help for those who, like me, have a hard time remembering the difference between 'determinate' and 'indeterminate' tomato plants. The way I do it thus: 'D'eterminate - the 'D' is for 'down', the plants grow as a bush, so are more 'down' than the 'indeterminate'. Then there's 'I'ndeterminate - the 'I' is for 'incline', growing 'up' instead of a bush. Works for me and maybe it will be of use to someone else also.
@johnstewart3172A community event gave me a few free plants, many not labeled. Surprise. One appears to be tomato plants. No clue what type (& it may surprise me even more, & not be tomatoes). I hope whatever plant it is likes the tomato treatment, with all the advice I'm listening to. In the past insects attacked my plants & ruined my interest. I was given several plants, so maybe I can share with the pests & neighborhood wildlife. We'll see how this goes. I had actually planned to only plant flowers. So every step is a surprise. I'll probably have my best garden effort yet, since all of this has made me laid back & carefree, with a 'let's see' attitude.
@cchemmes-seeseeart3948My German / Yugoslavian born grandparents taught me to put my fish heads/guts/fins in the vegetable garden but at least 3 feet deep to stop animals from smelling it and digging it up way back in the /80's... it works as you know by now .
@happyfisherman4432Excited to give it a go, thank you sir!
@BrokenautomobilesHi Ben, It's May from Portugal. Can this method be applied to cherry tomatoes?
I find your technique with the stick very good and useful. 👌👏👍😽 I will try that once my cherry tomato seedlings grow bigger as my other tomato plants I already plant first, then put the stick in, hoping i didn't damage the roots 😿🙏.
I have found this channel a good 15 minutes ago, and how fond I am of it already! Go Ben!
@nephenteaMaking the fence tomato cages reminds me, i never use the tomato cages i bought because they are too cramped for anything but Romas, BUT i get great reuse out of them for small squash and cucumbers. Tomatoes get strings so i can either prune or add another string.
@lostpony4885I like to get salmon heads at Foodmax but in a pinch just use a can of sardines! I got some with hot sauce by mistake which i didnt like so i used them under tomatoes.
@lostpony4885Actually there is reason not to plant deep, it depends on your circumstances. Planting same depth gets a more mature developed root system....im using clones this year, so far im way ahead of my from-seed attempts in previous years
@lostpony4885Fish heads fish heads roly poly fishheads
@lostpony4885Why not seeds tho....This isn't very self sufficient if I gotta but them at the store....
@davefaulkner8156my cherry tomatoes are about 15inch high but are very leggy and a couple have flowers how do I thicken them up thanks

@DollyCleveland-l1fAnother excellent video. My outdoor tomatoes (Sun baby and Gardener delight) are ladened with fruit but are not ripening. Any advice on how to get them to ripen. See conflicting advice - remove leaves, water less, take off and put by window with a banana. What do you do?
@MrSoviet1236:54 Is that a Hildares F1?, cause Iwe tried this type of support and Im afraid Iwe created some type of bonsai bondage tree as the result is a very sturdy bush with unexpected 2-3 cm thick branches. I was expecting it to flow over the cage edge but the branches curve back into the cage again, they are healthy flowering and fruiting. Its very hard to find pictures of the plant itself online pictures mostly show the fruits only. Now I feel a little better seeing that you have recived a similar result.
@warwarneverchanges4937Afternoon
I've grown these in the greenhouse ( Beef, cherry, alicante, brandy wine) I want to plant out in pots what depth do I plant them too ? ( they look abit leggy ) approx 2ft tall.
This guy is so Brtitsh :D , but i do love the language. From a guy in Belgium.

@mac243877I’m sure there’s an issues with my seeds I planted a tray of money maker in April and yeah they have grew but they don’t look like tomato seedlings all I can describe it as long green shoots with leaves that look kinda like carrot tops very strange
@anthonyparkinson1056Can i plant them at home? Currently i have them in the little pots on the window. They are growimg everyday but still little.
@JennyReviewMakeupIf I am ever feeling a bit down, I come to this channel just to listen to Ben speak with such positivity and enthusiasm. Today, I have absolutely no intention of following any of this advice but his cheery demeanour has already lifted my mood. Ben - sometimes your impacts exceed your intentions and for that I wish to thank you.
@joeydixYou remind me of an even more enthusiastic Stephen Merchant
@thedancinggymnastAre grow bags good enough for tomato plants? Can the roots get good enough anchorage?
@Fizzy-u9bThanks great video
@ianbrown5486I am starting my gardening journey. This channel is the best one I found. Very well explained and and really well done videos. Thank you !
@Monika-sd9roI planted one seed moth ago and put it under my led, its now like 40cmx40xmx40xm, i had to wait month so i can put in the outside because Finland is pretty cold until may.
@moronääsEach tomato more powerful than Jesus
@willmac4229I live in nederland i don't know when i can bring my tomatoe plants in my garden can you help me?
@sholehkamalbeik4339I really like your videos and enthusiasm and easy to understand advices. As a complete beginner, this is exactly what I need. Also, I just adore all the alliteration, makes my non-native speaking lil' ears all happy and concentrating.
I have no idea if you read comments on 10 months old videos, but I just needed to write this down. Lovely videos and so many ideas and tips! (Thank you for saying all the metric versions too ❤️ so I don't have to constantly mentally exchange the imperial measurements to metrics that makes sense to me)
A question from a complete beginner: where do you get fisheads? Would the grocery store frozen fish suffice? Or do you find specific fish at garden stores and garden centres?
Basil also benefits from the shadow of the tomato plants. In Canada, it helps delay flowering. Thanks for these great videos and advices!
