10 Years of Mixing Advice in 10 Minutes

This is really solid advice, I’ve been making beats and rapping for about 12 years, and only posted on streaming services the last 5 years. Working on FL studio can be really taunting at first. But everything he has said I also taught myself, just took a long time. The real secret to making good music is keeping it simple. I rarely have to mix the volumes on my drums or leads cause the polarity and how well everything molds is super important. And mastering is not as complicated as people try to make it seem. Just use an eq and cut at just under 40 hz and at just above 14 hz, then throw Maximus on there and do your thing (keep in mind when you do this make sure to export your project as a wav and load it into a new project).

But that guy saying it, will demonstrate it. There is no doubt there’s a difference in gear. But the art isn’t about the specific gear. It’s knowing how to use it. Be cause what’s available now is far more capable than pro gear back in the day. You can hear it. But to exercise through the challenge is more meaningful than working a a gas jockey to buy that thing that’s holding you back. It’s not the gear, it’s the effort. The secret sauce is knowing this.

I'm fairly new to recording. I've got a cheap 2 track presonus 24 c and fender studio One then my friend gave me a 2 track teemu mixer so with asio4all I've got 4 inputs. I've come to one conclusion thus far. This whole industry is a scam. It's a matter of minuscule voltages along with chords and adapters. The components that make up the electronics are fairly cheap. There is no reason all this crap is so expensive and there are 2 different levels of gear. Take it all be the same and seeing this mixer perform just as good as the priest on us just proves my point that here in scamerica it's all about profits and enriching the CEOs while screwing the consumer. After all that's all we are our consumers. We pay these ridiculous prices so the jokes on us. As the economy finally collapses these ludicrous prices will disappear

"solo is ruining your mix" is a stupid way to phrase "Its more important to hear changes of individual tracks within the context of the mix." But solo is a must when finding what frequencies need to be thinned out and where.

As a musician I have found recording my own music very valuable and eye opening. The amount of complex arrangements I was coming up with before trying to record and mix, but which in the end added nothing to the song. Now my super power is: Keep it simple. I am economical with what I add, and I add it for a reason. Sure, multi-track a guitar, but playing the same part on the same frets, with the same effects is a waste of time. The simple act of playing the same part an octave higher,/lower, on a different pick-up, and panning one track right and the other one left, and boom, hardly any effort in mixing to make them gel, while making the sound bigger/richer.

hey i be honest where I come from,I come from a background on music from both side of my father and mother side of the family and ever since ive had started to do this music i always had done everything by ear and feel when it comes doing music,my father use2 always say when i was growing up if u dont feel it youll never hear it meaning music itself is more spiritually connected with your soul aswell as the instrument tone,it took me a while to understand what he meant but now I totally get it good video thank you for taking the time to explain so such as thing and your behalf and how to prevent mistakes as we go.keep it up broh

As I consider myself an old timer by your standards, I think your advice to those starting out, is excellent. So many traps out there for those eager for knowledge. You can do almost everything for free nowadays. You all are so fortunate. We would have sailed into the stars had we had the opportunities offered to teens now. The great thing about music is it's ageless. I'm still involved at 69 and so are two of my old school friends to varying degrees.

Was there a specific moment when you noticed a significant increase in demand from artists, or did someone offer advice that encouraged you to pursue this as a full-time career?

I’m still lingering in the laptop self producing circle but would love to one day call it my profession.

This must all be Pre - Xfer OTT advice. Stack that baby on all channels + master and you're good to go

Do you have any advice on treating your room for monitoring/mixing? Whilst I can hear plenty of bass with my speakers (Mackie HR824s) I can never really hear the problems that then appear (mainly to do with bass) on other often smaller systems (TV or certain bluetooth speakers for example)

How do I start to actually learn how to build melodies ? I just spend A LOT of time jamming until i get something that works, kinda , and it takes me hours. I am truly loving the proces tho , just want to advance in actually efficient way
