In this video, I’m going on the hunt for this generation’s movie star, from Tom Holland and Sydney Sweeney to Austin Butler, Jacob Elordi, Glen Powell and TimothĆ©e Chalamet, to figure out why none of them quite feel like the movie stars we used to have. Is it Marvel? Social media? Streaming? The internet boyfriend cycle? Or has Hollywood completely changed the meaning of fame?

Starrrrrrrrā¤

— @AmandaFagundesMusicTime

This is the death of the movie star.

Contents of this video:

Very shocked that Zendaya is not mentioned in this video given that she has starred alongside everyone mentioned here in the top movies mentioned except Glen Powell.

00:00 - Intro

02:27 - Tom Holland

Only person that has gotten me to watch a movie because they are in it is Zendaya. Never would’ve seen Challengers, The Odyssey, or Dune if she wasn’t in it. Hell, I was more excited that Zendaya was in the Spider-Man Homecoming than Tom Holland šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

— @aliah7579

06:56 - Sydney Sweeney

11:18 - Jacob Elordi

Star.
Just to let you know, there won't be movie star ever again because social media had taken away that mystery and enigma surrounding this stars.

— @alesonu

15:05 - Glen Powell

19:03 - Timothee Chalamet

I mean Ryan Gosling is right there...I would say he is a modern day movie star. I will go see anything he is in, and he has a really wide range. I would say he has that star quality and has been prevalent in the cultural zeitgeist for 15-20 years now. He was literally "the" Internet boyfriend for years with the "Hey Girl" memes. Also it just happens that every movie he chooses to be in is a really good movie (even if not a box office success).

When I think of a modern day movie star, I think of Ryan Gosling

Forgetting about Ryan Gosling in this video is a criminal offense.

Elle Fanning is a Gen Z movie star to me. She's versatile and always delivers!

@arielmeadows1898
@

It has been a LONG time since I've watched a movie in cinemas (that I paid for) because I genuinely wanted to watch one.

@LePetitDoll

That lads sponsorship is so bittersweet after everything that has been going on within the fandom😢

@LePetitDoll

Star, I also agree with you. Hollywood needs to give more unknown actors a chance.

24:19 kalshi sponsers are crazy. 100 million dollars minimum

@ichigokurosaki9991
@

We need a plot that sucks people in (like obsession with the psychological horror) and then since the plot sucked them, there can be newer actors as well
The backrooms also had a good shot at new actors since the backrooms are already a mysterious phenomenon which therefore sucks people in
Did that even make any sense

@Gingeyyyyy
@

I didn't even know who Glen Powell was (not even sure how to spell it tbh)

@mtr7178

Brendan Fraser. Next question.

I think, actors are people too

@evvikkor
@

Dylan O’Brien and Logan Lerman are the only actors whose work I would actually watch in a cinema šŸ˜‚ and yes, I am biased with their charismatic interviews, cute mimics and astonishingly good looks, but I do think they’re good at acting 😊

@Asteria_s2_7

imo tv mainly streaming and the lack of good scripts hurt the movie star. the quality of tv shows went up over the last 20 years. the wire, game of thrones, and plenty of others.

What kind of men date the Jenners? Nasty guys who only want fame and sex. Good for them, but it affected their image. Don't cry later

@fcay111
@

Zendaya thoo she's beautiful and untouchable and seriously not seasonal. Or another great name would be Jennifer Lawrence, i would totally go to a movie just to see her.

@AntoniaSilaghi-h2w

To me Micheal B Jordan is the last real movie star.

Why do you talk like that always. Isn't it difficult

@abhinavmaharaj4804

I think this also applies to music. Artists like Kendrick Lamar carry so much presence and aura that it makes it worth it.

@TheHolySpiritAndWalu

After watching this video, I'm thinking... could Ryan Gosling maybe be close to a "movie star"? I mean he's well-liked and I feel like a lot of people will immediately have higher hopes in a movie if they know that he'll star in it. And I don't think that we've been over-exposed to him to the point that we get sick of him.

@DinaAlibresam

19:45 Hopefully Leo didn't tell him to join the Diddy White Parties like what he used to do

@T-Y-L-M
@

11:05 Although I disagree with your take that it is a "problem" that Actors and Actresses aren't making the films any gains just because their name is on the film, I do think that in today's generation it has shifted, from Actors to Directors(this behavior can be seen in Sam Raimi, Michael Bae, and Jordan Peele)

Jordan Peele is a massive example for this and his latest produced film "H.I.M" which everyone actually ended up not liking at all, they only bought tickets for this film solely because his name was on the project and some were even fooled into thinking he was the director but turns out he only produced the film but the impact is still there..

Though I haven't watched the rest of the video idk if you're gonna point this out

@T-Y-L-M
@

simple conclusion, why Hollywood will fall, too much propaganda, freedom of expression which has now become primitive, and the stupidity of ideology, which comes from the capitalist regimešŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

@Musikdanchill
@

Isnt it a good thing not watching a movie Just for the actors. So that zou can Just watch it vor the plot and mazbe new actors can rise. Like in the new movie Obsession, where the cast was unknown.

@jacket304

Social media killed the movie star

I went to see Sinners specifically because of Michael B. Jordan. The same way I watched Get Out and Queen & Slim for Daniel Kaluuya, Us for Lupita Nyong'o and Winston Duke, Challengers for Zendaya, and Nope for Keke Palmer and Daniel Kaluuya.

The actors you named just don't have that same draw for me. In my opinion, Hollywood has pushed them heavily, but I find their performances pretty one-dimensional and, frankly, boring. I'd much rather support actors whose work consistently grabs my attention.

@ThatsSoNickie
@

no. Blake lively and rr, Timothee nowadays. but Zendaya and the Aussie guy are def moviestars

@NicolaNicoo

My Spiderman is Toby Mcguire.

@mobylure
@

I think one of the problems is that the focus has become the actors themselves rather than the stories that are being told.

@wallyllama2926
@

That's why i love Leo. The generation of actors ACTUALLY liking the art of acting, theater, and cinema is dying(in my opinion, already died).
Because nowadays, so-called actors don't seem to be truly into the art of theater and cinema but more like being on a big screen and don't do too much yet get appreciate for the least they do. You can feel it in their acting in the movies. Cause they don't do acting for the sake of acting, they would just do it till it doesn't require them to get ugly, miserable, dirty and etc(by the roles i mean). They just like to look perfect and beautiful, dont care what role is given to them cause they don't wanna ACT it they just wanna pretend acting without getting their hands touch the dirt.

Zendaya chalamet cannot even see them without out digust. Tired of them low talent non actors keep getting cast? Why why why?

@norrisphillips4360
@

I think the Marilyn/Sydney thing saying ā€œwe didn’t talk about Marilyn’s personal lifeā€ is inaccurate… old studio actors DID have their version of parasocial. What they ate, products they used, whom they dated/married, etc., was all heavily discussed and controlled because the public did discuss it (unfortunatel).

Star!🤩

It’s getting nuts out here. If I was in the entertainment industry, and I wanted stars like the good old days, I’d make sure to…

- not have actors first be spotlighted in cinematic universes
- decrease actors’ social media output
- have consequences for actors not doing their job*
- not have straight-to-streaming anything
- have TimothĆ©e Chalamet never get an OscaršŸ˜† (deflate egos)

*if there’s a legitimate health concern, that’s fine, unlike Elordi’s broken foot🤨

It's simple: Hollywood decided that hiring cheap foreign actors was better for their bottom line than casting Americans to play American roles.
