You are being misled about renewable energy technology.

Video Overview & Insights

Let's learn and grow. New things are cool!

Bravo! Best video I've seen in years, from anyone on any topic. Finally someone who has the guts to face reality and stand up for core American principles. I'm overwhelmed with admiration.

First, the "clean version." Please pass that around.

I really appreciate this video.

Hell Yes! Thank you for the political rant! Our country is dangerously close to extreme fascism. The republican party has been the extreme nationalist party since Trump.

If you'd like a legal argument from an actual lawyer which highlights the uniquely strange and unchecked powers we have given DHS and ICE, this is worth a watch. I am not being hyperbolic in saying that this is a serious problem we need to face head on through abolishment, not reform.

the problem is that solar panels and every other "renewable energy source" are made from oil and other precious materials.

I'm not gonna post links to my socials or my Patreon here.

The problem is this is a political discussion. The majority of the opposition is not objecting in the use of solar. They are objecting to renewables being used as an excuse to tax people and for gov to fund the industry with subsidies. If this technology is so awesome and more profitable, then let the free market work, and entrepreneurs will replace fossil fuels with it. The issue is that statism vs free markets. This topic of “misinformation” is a red hearing.

Take care of each other.

I get it... But, 50k+ for a decent EV, then if you have an installer do the panels thats easily like 10-20k without a battery backup. This is NYS so maybe we just get shafted on everything... But its not a better deal for me personally vs my paid off jetta TDI :(

Funny, it's kind of like my logic when I believed "equality" meant "same". I thankfully didn't overstep enough to have something make me defend my ego with autosuggested denial. Though I can see how "someone" potentially could stumble into that pitfall if they ever thought they were some "character". While I'm a bit more cynical, I can't deny the truth of this essay at least from my own observations. Granted I think the people pro-human trafficking (illegal immigration) is more within the purview of kidnapping not just "brown" people, mind. Though I get the slant, enjoy "John Olliver" as well, but if you truly want to grasp humans, it's a bit easy to blame the figurehead in the imaginary hierarchy we subvert consciousness with, but systems are bigger then their thoughts and no king rules alome. Since I think the youtuber us younger then me, I don't think I've got the right to blame him for his shallow/simple moralism. It's just hard for me to "get it" as I've known the more faux-naif use moralism to delude you into a false sense of security since I was about 8 years old. Appreciate the innosence which leaves people enough time to figure tricky shit like this though. I think Trump is just an average old man acting along with a protest vote he was not ready for, so even proclaiming him as "Satan" to your market demo sounds about as sycophantic as whoever heralded him as a "Christ".

I'm just a dumb comment into the void of a ~4 mnth old video, but yeah, if someone stumbles across this, I wish you a good night!🌝

my main reason for not buying an electric vehicle is the fact i live in flat or apartment depending where you are from and can't easterly upgrade to an electric charging station because the stata would have spend money on that and plus i live near public transport so i don't have to always take the car though

I am an avid watcher of this channel, both for what you teach and for the sense of humor, and I have always been keen on the politics of what you say. I am glad to see you coming at this topic explicitly at a time like this, and I think you did a great job with the explicitly political part of the video, breaking down narratives, bringing attention to the issues and violations.

As someone not from the US, I must add that I was sad to see a lack in the connection between what is happening there now and what the US has done to the world over more than a century. Yes, the ideals written on the constitution, declaration of independence and bill of rights are respectable, but they are very far from what the country has ever been or ever aspired to be (at an institutional level) from the begging (just read about how Madison said democracy risked being a chaos where the masses had actual power). The "founding fathers" explicitly design the system to secure their property rights and privileges from the lower classes, for a start, but that is another topic.

Just as what happened in Germany was what Germany (and the other powers) had done in their colonies before (look at Namibia for example), what is happening in the US is what the US has done to the world, but turned inwards. That is not to say that it's deserved or some perverse conclusion like that, I fully oppose the US government and support the people fighting it. I understand this video is not a video essay on fa****, but criticizing this moment without the historical connections, and showing that the "principles tha make this country great" never stopped it from exerting brutal imperialism around the world risks repeating the mith of "american exceptionalism", and ultimately stops people from changing the fundamental systems that led to this point.

Again, I recognize this was a small segment of a larger video, but I think this is fundamental if the country is to actually change in the future and not repeat this 50 years from now.

I deeply respect your content in general and your decision to add this critical segment, just wanted to add the perspective from the outside. Thank you for this video and the great content you always provide.

Note:
For those who will comment that people from outside should not talk about american politics, 1- what happens in the US unfortunately affects every single country in the world; 2- the US has never stopped itself from meddling in other countries, including mine, so...

My used, ground-mounted panels give me a $65.00 electric bill on average. They are connected to portable LFP batteries. Three batteries total. That is a wise long-term investment. How much do you pay on average?

32:43 to feed the pockets of the big farming. Hilarious how people will moan about the “military industrial complex” when we spend WAY more money to prop of the profits of non-food farmers, which is also environmentally negative

1:10:00 Maybe you dont see birds because they arent migrating at the time you're standing there... Or maybe because of where that specific field is located compared to where migratory patterns are... There are like 20 different reasons why your observation could be invalidated... Its one of those things where you can feel like you are making an obvious statement with evidence... but if you delve deeper your evidence isn't actually evidence.

I didn't come here to be propagandized.
It's incredible how no one can just stay in their effing lane.
If you want to do politics, make a politics channel. Hijacking something completely unrelated to force your own politics down people's throats is some serious moral high-horsing.
As if any politics can be the right or wrong ones.
Different times, different people, different places, different values. If every worldwide culture is equal, and of equal value, then the same is true within a single culture.
But boy, I just love when Coca-Cola, Ben and Jerry's, a burger restaurant, or the guy who takes apart stuff tell me what I should think, and how I should think. That their way of thinking is the only right way of thinking.
Boy, do I love being proselytized to.

Almost everything behind you, the clothes you wear and the the frame of my 59" TV come from oil.

I like your stats on batteries. Grid size batteries need to be able to store AT LEAST 3X of the USEABLE energy for at least a month to recover from a natural event.

Solar farms ruin the land they are on. AFFORDABLE panels are very inefficient and therefore more panels are needed for a given requirement.

Wind mills kill a LOT of birds.

Nuclear power is the way to go for grid power.

I personally have 30 panels and 3 batteries and support equipment on my house. I rarely have a day that I don't feed the grid. With all of that investment I can only power my home for less than 12 hours (today) based on today's usage.

Each year I get paid less for the power I feed the grid. Very aggravating.

So, while thankful for power i have when the grid goes down, I am not completely convinced to turn off the petroleum tap.

Great video. I appreciate the data and the thought put into it.
I live in the country in the Northeast. Have been contemplating setting up some solar panels and or wind turbines not so much for cost cutting reasons but for back up in case of power grid failure. But I have not yet put in the time to research what set up would work best for me.

45:28 Solarpanels contain cadmium, lead, copper and tin. Rain on solarfarms will slowly over time flush out these materials and pollute the soil. A german university published on that in 2018.

Good for you, pal. I only found your channel ten days ago but you've already gone from a remarkable teacher to an inspirational political speaker.

As a Brit, I've always felt deep sorrow for the millions of Americans who were NOT responsible for returning that oaf to the White House. It must be a dreadful thing to live among so many who seem determined to be, and defend being, so stupid.

As someone who's very socially and economically right-wing (I like free markets, strong borders and the nuclear family while disliking DEI, socialism and many other "left-wing" policies – and I hate the word "conservative" because the conservative of today is just the progressive of yesterday) I'm always extremely annoyed with the way other right-wingers think about renewable energy. I've never subscribed to the doomsday mindset of "we're all gonna die due to climate change", but my perception has always been that climate change is a serious, very real problem that will ultimately be solved by technology. Technology (specifically 19th century technology) got us into this mess, of course technology and free markets are going to get us out of it as well. To me, being against renewable energy has always been the equivalent of the old "Hitler liked bread"-joke – just because your opponents like something doesn't mean it's fundamentally bad. If renewables are useful enough to be economically viable (which they are, very obviously so, as this video eloquently demonstrates), they will previlail in the marketplace of ideas, and they actually do that. You can be against forcing people into things and STILL acknowledge that solar panels and battery storage are the way things are going, that doesn't mean your opponents win, lol. I hate how partisan politics make us automatically assume the opposite of our opponents, even if it doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

So yeah, I agree with you, Alec. On this one :D
