WOW!😂 Mateus Fernandes to Spurs | Man Utd's Next Problem Is This...

Video Overview & Insights

Join Tony O'Neill & Kieron O'Neill for the latest Manchester United transfer news. Mateus Fernandes is set to join Tottenham Hotspur after Spurs agreed an ÂŁ85million guaranteed deal with West Ham, according to David Ornstein. Manchester United were interested in the Portugal midfielder but refused to match the rising transfer fee and salary package.

United were right not to pay ÂŁ85m for Fernandes — but with Scott, Baleba and TchouamĂ©ni valued in the same bracket, have we just moved from one expensive problem to another? Who would you pay the big money for? 👇

Never worth that fee, glad it's done n dusted.
Had a pain in me arse listening to the hype around a bang average, twice relegated player......
Should of been all over Tchouameni from the get-go and not even entertained such a player, complete waste of time on this chancer.

I feel like his agent told him to go for the money and he couldn’t refuse. It doesn’t add up, Tottenham have been fighting relegation for two years no europa, no champions league football. The issue is the midfield market will be similar throughout, Scott, Baleba, all are gonna be 70m plus

Kieran spot on today, Most of the Jurnos havent got a clue. United are making a stance in this market they are no longer going to be mugged off. Who even knows if United went in for him? All speculation its been going on for years every window United are going for so and so United have missed out on so and so.

Fans have moaned for years about the money we have spent on signings and the ridiculous fees we have given them. We’ve essentially just paid whatever the selling club has demanded. Sancho, Antony, Di Maria, Sanchez, Onana, and Hojlund, are just some of the players that United have overpaid for recently. Many of them coming to United just for the money, so I get what United are trying to do by not wanting to overpay for players and only looking at signing players who only want to sign for United because it’s United. But at the same time, they are digging themselves into a bit of a hole. Last summer was relatively decent in terms of incomings. They signed Cunha, by activating his release clause. They won a one-horse race after Mbeumo told Tottenham he only wanted United but still ended up paying Brentford exactly what they wanted after weeks of negotiations, which was probably £5-10m more than what we wanted to pay. We probably got the signing of the season with the signing of Senne Lammens for around £20m. Sesko, although has plenty to improve on, has been relatively successful even though he was probably our 4th choice striker signing and we slightly overpaid for him. We wanted to sign a midfielder, and that midfielder seemed to be Baleba, but United refused to get even close to Brighton’s £100m evaluation and walked away. We have now spent the whole of last season being linked to Elliot Anderson, but as soon as it was reported that Nottingham Forest wanted more than £100m, we backed off and moved on to other targets. He is now signing for Manchester City. Tonali was mentioned, but again we moved away when we were told Newcastle wanted £100m. He might be signing for Spurs. United then seemingly settled on Mateus Fernandes as the next target. United look like they’ve gone into it thinking that a deal should’ve been easy to do for a player who had been relegated in back-to-back seasons. And in theory, it should have been. But West Ham placed a ridiculous £85m price tag on his head and said that they wouldn’t take anything less. As soon as Tottenham said that they were happy to pay the fee, and that Fernandes would be happy to join them, United, once again, backed away. £85m, and a reported £200+k a week wages for a player relegated in back-to-back seasons is absolutely ridiculous, and is probably £20m too much, and I can see why United have backed off, but the issue that presents itself now is that whoever United go for next, the same thing might happen again. If United go for Scott, Bournemouth will look at the Fernandes price and say they want £80m. If United went in for Wharton, Palace will want £80m. Even Brighton will still want close to £100m for Baleba and he’s just had an awful season. Whatever happens, United will end up overpaying for a player this summer, particularly if it is for a player already in the Premier League. The only option they have, if there not willing to pay the high fees, is to look abroad. That doesn’t necessarily guarantee better deals, and it also goes against United’s plan of wanting to go for Premier League proven players. At some point, something is going to have to give. Either bite the bullet and pay for the best players or go elsewhere and buy cheap for worse players. There is obviously still time for United to make signings so don’t judge the window yet, that of course can be done when it closes, but things obviously haven’t gone to plan so far. Maybe United will overpay for somebody in the end, but they obviously didn’t want to do it on Fernandes.

So who are we going to sign. No high wages , no over the top payments.
Don't understand utd and the transfer market. Also only want premier league players . Can't see ahead .

@davemurphy3275
@

I agree with what you are saying about M Fernandes but why did they spend so much time on him good show as always

@davidfleming7569
@

The club's going to be looking for a new manager by Christmas if these players are the targets. Let's not even mention rashford walking around the pitch.

@garethdeere4822

Small club mentality

@laoch5658
@

The fact that we haven't put any bids in at all for Anderson or Fernandez and yet had Ederson done and dusted without any knowledge from anyone gives me more than envy confidence to stay relaxed about the whole situation

@jimmyj2510
@

Get Baleba under $50 mil.

@abdeon2203
@

He isn’t even a £60 million player

@itmatterednot
@

How much do you think the Ugarte situation has affected transfers?

@rainmaker671
@

United is level headed, they did not put in the bid. Ambition vs Money which the player chose money to a team who fought relegation.
Spurs can pay. Imagine now for Tonali. Newcastle will even ask for more than ÂŁ75m.

@ATJC13
@

James Garner had better stats, his he worth 85 million?

@darrenbullock9153
@

We be okay lads for sone reason i am hopeful our lads in background will get it right transfer wise last year they got the right players.

@thetardiszoneofficialyoutube
@

I do believe we will have to overpay for a midfielder but go for tbe real madrid player he be worth tbe fee.

@thetardiszoneofficialyoutube
@

What if we've used Fernandes as a smokescreen for other negotiations. There's plenty of quality options out there for midfield. Ederson was a great signing. Stay the course don't overpay and only sign those who want to wear the shirt.

@darrenbullock9153
@

I may be wrong (hope I’m not) but I think we will get players over the line good quality players who want to be at united when Gill was the man we didn’t know till they were signed and can see a lot of that now

@paullatham7774
@

Where's the ambition to come to play for Carrick!

@MG-sn3ob
@

Maybe the agent indicated he wanted united and agent played both spurs and united.

@thetardiszoneofficialyoutube
@

We're gonna pay high prices anyway.... This is the market

@MG-sn3ob
@

United are experts on two things, talking players out of a deal, and once they are a United player, doing everything possible to end their career.

@mualqasim
@

You get what you pay for, so if we refuse the pay the wages then we will simply end up with inadequate players. If we lose out on CL by not paying players the correct wage, then you will lose ÂŁ100m for the sake of being tight with their wage structure.

@johnthomas3252
@

No 1..other clubs might take 70 mil with add ons..no 2 why is RM wanting the sell?..his wages will be too high also ..think we will have to be creative..

@elizabethbailey6256
@

Fernandes chose money over a club on the up. Same thing happened with Gareth Bale, but Fernandes doesn’t have nearly the same ceiling. He’ll be a mediocre midfielder and waste of money in a few years.

@jeffgibson645
@

3:14 Bang on Kieran, that's what I really dislike about social media etc.

@andrewhezekiahdaniel
@

yeah fuck fernandes crap. 85 mill is for european/prem proven players ONLY.

@jamesh2605
@

Problem is the market is inflated and we need at least 2 more midfielders. We walked away from all top targets and we will still overspend. The club should have been in a position to wrap up deals for Anderson, Tonali and Tchoumenei (2 of these targets) and someone like Stella or Alex Scot. We will end up with mediocre players. Nothing to be confident about.

We got lucky last year that Cunha had a release clause and Mbuemo wanted only united and Sesko choosing MU after Arsenal walking away and Lamens working out. Next year we won’t make CL and it is shaping to be a disastrous season.

@crisseven1764
@

Fernandas was only potential.Why would any club pay 85 million for potential,unless you’re desperate.Theres loads of better Midfielder’s out there,go get them reds

@michaellusty3150
@

dont blame the lad ,west ham could have told him ,you are going to the highest bidder or nowhere ,you are under contract to us

@fredfox1764
@

Looks like its Wharton now and Utd wont pay silly money,that's the ticket and if Carrick can pull off Rashford staying is looking more and more likely.

@Robertoknowit
@

Having been a supporter for 60 years my main desire for my club is to see the circus which runs the club ended and to see evidence the club is moving forward with better values because it is my view that we will never compete at top level again until the circus ends, regardless of money spent or quality of manager.
There have been a few signs over the last year or two that the circus might be ending, the hangers on side lined such as Sancho, Rashford, Anthony etc, big earners who are not absolute top players let go such as Casemiro, good recruitment like Cunha and Mbeumo.
Not valuing Fernandes at 85M plus recognising he wasn't committed to united is another sign for me so good news. Unfortunately I have to recognise that whilst we have ownners who pile debt onto what should be the most profitable club in the world then this is the level we operate at and any small signs we are becoming credible from an operational perspective once more it the most i can currently hopeful.
