Owning a football club is not lucrative. Rarely have clubs ever made a profit, they require huge sums of capital, and football fans are fickle and can turn on even the most supportive owner.
Premier League teams are not profitable because de cap for salaries and transfers it's at 110% of the yearly budget, in this cap LaLiga it's between 50% and 75% of yhe yearly buget depending how big are the debts and possible debts they could have and how they can afford it.
This estrict rules LaLiga has, make impossible to clubs that could be insolvent to compete with the transfer prices of Premier League, and now they trust on the good play of youth academy players. The claire example of this, RC Celta that have just passed in one year from fight to not be relegated to make into the Europa League, only with lending more opportunities to the youth academy players
So why do it? Abhishek Raj explains explains the pros and cons of owning a football club. Craig Silcock illustrates.

Mad how this nails the core contradiction of modern football: clubs are structurally terrible businesses, but everyone with money still wants one. 😂
The bit about volatile revenues + wages eating everything is spot on most owners aren’t buying “a club”, they’re buying status, leverage and a storytelling machine they can bolt onto their wider business interests. The distressed-asset angle you mention is exactly what pushed me to write my own book on this side of the game.
I’ve just finished Football Inc: How Money, Power and Ownership Broke (and Can Save) the Modern Game it dives into why people still buy clubs despite awful margins, how different ownership models (state, private equity, fan-owned, hybrids) actually work in practice, and what all this means for fans stuck watching PSR spreadsheets instead of football.
If anyone’s into the business / finance side of the sport and wants to go deeper , the book link is in my description.

The big problem of a modern football club is the cost of transfer, buying and player wage has become too ridiculously expensive. Sometimes the total player price and their wages are almost equal with small nations. The willingness of some richest club to spend the over the top price just to make sure player goes to the club makes the market price so expensive.
It's not sustainable and it's must stop

About Tifo Football:
Loss making companies are great for tax avoidance.
Tifo loves football. We create In-depth tactical, historical and geopolitical breakdowns of the beautiful game.
We know there’s an appetite for thoughtful, intelligent content. For stuff that makes the complicated simple.
Nowadays in Portugal there's investors all the way down to the 4th division, which is wild. In fact there's so much money sloshing around that supporter owned clubs are unable to compete even on the 2nd division. It's a confusing business.
We provide analysis on the Premier League, Champions League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, World Cup and more.
Our podcasts interview some of the game’s leading figures. And our editorial covers football with depth and insight.

Premier League get 99.99% of all the tv money. And they dont share it. It does not trickle now . Right, as for the thousands of other football clubs in England. You will always struggle for money. For ever. Enjoy :)

@AdilBusraWhat if the big clubs owned betting companies and thats why we see some shocking results
@rigersdybeli8631Clubs shouldn't have commercial owners. They should be _clubs_, like Barcelona and most German and Brazilian clubs, owned by the collective of its members.
@hisham_hmYou could just retitle the video "WHY MLS AND CLOSED LEAGUES WILL WIN".
@lazyidiotofthemonth📖 ✏️ 👀 taking notes
@imabeatduhpartyShould have just watched the last 45 seconds to know the obvious reasons
@anakinknightgambling revenue.
let's be real, giving how much $ are in gambling now a days, I am not surprise some under table moves are pulled to benefit the owner. billions to be made and millions to pay players to downplay at a few games.
While spurs good at business but not at football 💀
@nydb8131This is why we've seen more and more state or corporate owned clubs (like Man City or the Redbull teams), they're much more valuable as propaganda and marketing tools than viable independent businesses.
@srbtlevse16You can also take a pretty healthy salary out of it while you run the place.
@ben-b6n3lWhat if future football fields got built inside sphere like gigantic screens that show fans watching the game from their homes & no need to stands or actual stadiums🤔
@duran9664❓I wonder if stadiums would die soon like malls❓🙄
@duran9664whole bunch of bs really,there is only one reason (at the highest level) and its money laundering. Giving 80 mil for maguire i mean you would hvae to be very naive to think otherwise
@maikatiemuj2706Ask the Glazers? They have lost a fortune. Not!
@Redforever369Didn't like billions or succession say that owning a sports team was the American version of knighthood
@DiqDontWorkGoodAmerican owners buying every club under the sun will destroy this sport.
@josecipriano3048Money laundering. A lot of it.
@josecipriano3048It SHOULD be for the love of the game. Football belongs to the people.
