Why Utah is So Weird

I visited Utah,Salt Lake City I was doing a basketball game between two salt lake city teams just ones poor and ones rich. And 99 percent of the state go for one team. It was very strange, Damn near a cult like feeling, everyone mostly wears the same thing. Everything closes by 7 pm. I'm from Vegas, and seeing mostly white people made me feel uncomfortable. The Morman culture is no joke in Utah and makes alot of outsider feel more like outsiders than say cali or Arizona. Especially since I'm a MJ smoker, it felt like 2016 hiding or else people look at you weird😂😅

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints tends to be moderate in its beliefs. It believes in being kind yet keeping its principles.

I've never heard an argument against LGBT rights which isn't a religous argument. I believe in freedom of religion. If i want to practice my religion in peace, then I must alow others their religous beliefs, and stand in defense of them. The government must not be alowd to infringe on religous freedoms and must be held to uphold all religious rights. This includes the right for same sex couples to be married in the eyes of the government, and for that marriage to be treated as equal to a traditional God ordained marriage. It is just religious freedom.

Also. As a human being. Im happy for my gay and lesbian friends and aquamtances. Comited loving relationships make people happy.

Beautifully stated! Utah is not a regular red state. Since moving here in 1999 I never felt that racism or exclusion of any type was a part of the culture. Nah man Mormons are nice and super inclusive if you want to buy into what they are selling, but if you’re not they don’t discriminate either. You do you because we are doing us.

A HUGE factor for government and being such a Red state. Republicans can vote in the Democratic Caucus but Democrats cannot vote in the Republican Caucus. So many people will register as Republicans but truly vote Democrat. Its a stupid game the government plays imo, but you've gotta play it if thats what it takes.

No one is aloud to make fun of the church because of we didn't make settlements and colonies, we likely would have less land than we currently do

I guarantee if you removed all LGTBQ “rights” in Utah and kicked out every illegal invader it would be the most utopic states in the US.

4:02 I hate being that guy but we don't learn that much about Joseph Smith. Although a prompt person in the restoration of Christ church. We focus our learning on the son Jesus Christ and the church by studying records of his people like the Book of Mormon and the Bible.

Mormon is a nickname for our religion. The official name is the "Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints." It's Christ church. I like to make Jesus Christ the focus of my worship in the religion:)

Loved the video btw

i take calls for an insurance company that only has clients from Utah and Wisconsin. After the first 7 seconds of answering the phone, i can guess where they live. Utah people are just different. No accent , just different. And some are really strange.

Seems like Mormons want to treat people like people while also holding their traditional values. How the church should be, I guess.

Also, Utah claims to be an "outdoorsy" state and Southern Utah has some of the most unique, beautiful landscapes in the world yet Utah keeps voting for politicians that don't give a fuck about preserving these areas - say goodbye to San Rafael Swell and Grand Staircase -Escalante!

@hefnhef1

I don’t think the portrayal of the view on illegal immigration or LGBTQ rights purely pragmatic understates that there is an actual world view in Utah conservatism that is distinct from other conservative world views. It isn’t purely utilitarian.

@NateMillerplus

It's weird because it's mostly Mormon. That's enough.

It's also mostly desert. Some of it is very sparsely populated

Most people are concentrated around Salt Lake City.

But mostly, it's Mormon.

All religions are cults with weird illogical
stories regarding their deities. Pretty much all but Islam have rules or commandments that promote a civil society. If followed as expected by God,
there wouldn't be violence, murder, theft
etc. After that they all get very weird because it's challenging at best to believe in something that never existed while convincing others to just have faith.

I’ve experienced more OPEN racism in Utah than I did growing up in Georgia. Idk if it’s the inbreeding or religious doctrine but I’ll be glad to leave this mayo monkey filled state far behind me when I move next year.

As someone with Mormon family they’re so weird 🤷 all because some dude “found” some golden plates in the ground

Is it the idea that Mormons may see themselves as the descendants of persecuted immigrants that made a trek across a continent for freedom (to practice their religion) that make them slightly more accommodating/approving of modern immigrants?

My close friend who lives in Utah told me boys in his high school would open doors for him non-teasingly because they knew he was gay but because he's was fem, they thought they needed to treat him like a girl. Like theyre a bit confused but I appreciate their spirit 😭

Dated an ex Mormon from Utah and can confirm that they’re weird as hell.

I live in Colorado and I had Mormon friends that would get to leave school to go to church down the block. I always thought they were so lucky it was right there. Now I’m realizing that was entirely intentional and ngl it makes me lowkey sick to my stomach. Especially considering Mormonism isnt even that popular where I live. Like how are they able to get real estate next to high schools so easily even in towns where their religion is not popular? Usually the area around schools are bought for housing because you know… kids should be able to walk to school. It feels messed up in a way to take up that space for anything but housing

@connienikolo4143
@

Grew up here non Mormon but christian… it’s a weird competition between the two from my experience 😅 I’ve been all around the salt lake and Utah valley, tried out different churches, obviously you can’t live in Utah without having attended a service or gathering hosted by your local church at some point, so I’ve kinda seen all the different sects, heard the beliefs, and ultimately, I’m not religious 🤣🤣🤣

Saying that people are a political party is extremely reductive, and does not represent democracy.
Democracy is not voting a group of people in power, but the power of the people. This is not represented by a small group of people who take power.

Yo, as a Utahn, firstly, get me out of here. Secondly, I’m gonna be nit picky. I know we got some weird names here like Tooele, but Mantua is pronounced mana way. (At least that’s how my family says it). Thank you god and Mormons for this… something of a state.
