For more than 70 years, the country has hosted the Monaco Grand Prix. Itâs one of the worldâs most unusual racecourses, running through the city streets of Monte Carlo. The course goes through a tunnel, up a cliff, and passes just feet from the harbor; it's earned the nickname âthe race of a thousand corners.â
Because of its design, the Monaco Grand Prix has produced some of the most memorable moments in car racing history. But that's not the only reason the race is so prestigious.

@minn9kXHow on earth do you make a video about the history of the Monaco Grand Prix without mentioning Ayrton Senna? Thatâs a shameâŠ
@acavals8080Monaco breathes formula1 History that's NOT "boring" at all and people who think differently just don't watch the Saturday Qualification Cuzz that's most likely the day the Sunday Race is already won
@simonhilgevoord8020monaco w
@shreyasjuloori3147Excelente documental!!! Gracias.
@javierorlandogarciatorres2818MONACO IS NOT THE MOST FAMOUS RACE IN THE WORLD
@McDally1Ayrton Senna is the king of Monaco
@ramyhmr5548The Monaco GP should have specific rules that make the cars smaller for this race alone.
@igotnocluYou spelled Indy 500 wrong đ
@differentbydesign23Itâs totally a crime not to mention Ayrton Senna when you talk about Monaco Grand Prix!
@jalmxyzMonaco is one of the least exciting races because of the lack of overtaking, its all about rich people showing off and that is a really lame reason for true fans of the sport, for it to be the most famous race
@alabamajammaback here after charles won monaco :)
@saida1ceMonaco is an event, not a race. If you watch quali, there's no need to watch the race 95% of the time.
Aside from someone clouting the wall at the swimming pool, running straight off at Sainte Devote, or getting into the marbles in the tunnel, it's usually a good opportunity to catch a nap.
Also, the Indianapolis 500 is easily as famous, especially as it's been run for 19 more years. Not counting years off due to unpleasantness in Europe. Twice.

@CYB3R2KThe worst track!
@fonrogersSorry, the world's most famous race is almost twice as old, the Indy 500
@gowanwynn9007Daytona 500 is much, much bigger
@ohno22446Monaco GP to F1 is like Dust2 to CS and I love it
@triumphgdNot the most famous race, that would be the 24hrs of Le Mans or Indy 500. Saying Monaco is the 'greatest race' is like saying F1 has the 20 best drivers in the world; no just no. Monaco is an important race historically and F1 has 20 of the best drivers in the world but that is different than saying THE Greatest and THE Best.
It should also be noted Monaco is the most boring race on the schedule with the least action. In fact, it may not be on the schedule in a few years and the only reason it is still on the schedule is it's historical status. As a race it is the worst on the current calendar.
No. the most famous race is Le Mans.
@DonLee1980Did they mean the Indy 500?
@cfgiant7314Fernando Alonso, he got it.
