Ohio looks ordinary on the surface — flat, familiar, and right in the middle of the U.S. But once you zoom in, Ohio starts breaking every geographic expectation.

In this documentary, we uncover the real truth about Ohio — a state shaped by ancient glaciers, buried seas, strange borders, extreme weather contrasts, and some of the most important hidden geography in America. From why so many rivers begin here, to how Ohio quietly influenced U.S. expansion, industry, and population patterns, this is the side of Ohio most people never notice.

Ohio is the state, which will benefit the most from current regional rail buildout

— @SuccessMindset2180

This isn’t a list of random facts.

It’s a deep dive into why Ohio feels different, how its geography shaped its culture, and why it plays a much bigger role in the United States than its reputation suggests.

Why does ohio still have slavery on its admiralty..maritime leglese books.?.

Lake Erie's shallowness means it freezes faster than the other Great Lakes. A simple Google search will reveal this if you're not from here

Very well put. Ohio is the most "normal", "average" state in so many ways. Middling population and size, middling urbanization and economic power, middling political landscape and so on. It's what makes Ohio THE perfect snapshot of the USA as a whole 😊

First sentence right out the gate.. "Ohio looks ordinary"...

Ohio IS ordinary... Theres nothing really great about it. All the cool stuff to see in Ohio is on the right side of the state.. The one cool thing to see in central Ohio (buckeye stadium) aka the horse shoe.. And the whole left side of the state is all hillbilly redneck children of the corn aka Deliveranceville aka Wrong Turn country. I was born and raised in central Ohio and its a depressing state to say the least

The worst part of Ohio is that you can be walking down the street and then triple T (slang for tung tung tung sahur btw) and then he lowkirkuinely calls scp wish I knew on yo goofy ahh and then you have to get double T (slang for Tralalelo Tralala) to get Diddy off yo back 😭🙏

8:48 the region you’re talking about in central Ohio is set in very old Forrest’s that have decayed and left some of the most beneficial microorganisms is the country. They have a muck research program at OSU and people come to the muck fields to take and cultivate the biodiversity. It’s not well known outside of the extreme nerd garden community

everyone clutching their Appalachian Ohio pearls 😂. It’s a relatively and generally flat state. You went to Hocking Hills once, it was okay. Cincinnati is slightly more interesting than if it was flat. Stop trying to cope, it’s not flattering. Even Iowa, Kansas, and Nebraska have hilly areas

This video didn’t talk much about the people from Ohio, but Ohio has produced great leaders, inventors, and pioneers and has also had three cities that were so prevalent in three manufacturing areas that they’re known as world capitals of those manufacturing areas.
Seven presidents were born in Ohio, second only to Virginia with eight. The Civil War generals Grant and Sherman were born in Ohio and were largely responsible for the North winning the Civil War.
Thomas Edison and the Wright brothers were from Ohio.
Eddie Rickenbacker (the most decorated flying ace of WWI), John Glenn (first man to orbit the Earth), and Neil Armstrong (first man to walk on the moon) were all from Ohio. Those are just a few of the more prominent names, there were many others.
Toledo is known as The Glass Capital of the World, Akron is known as The Rubber Capital of the World (Goodyear, Firestone, and B. F. Goodrich), and Zanesville is known as The Pottery Capital of the World (Weller, Roseville).

Ohio is not flat. I live around Dayton and a neighboring area called moraine. It's called that from glacial moraine, which are big hills of glacial slump., plus it has all the hills leftover from the mountains in the southwestern area of the state

@70tdc12s

Odd. I live in east central Ohio and all i can see are hills and lights from power plants in W. Va. It ain't flat nowhere.

When the country bankrupts and dissolves - look for the buckeye nation of Ohio to rise like never before. Eventually we are going to revert back to colonies

This is funny because I have a post apocalypse setting I've been developing for 30 years. The Great Lakes play a prominent role in trading, and with that the rivers that feed into it. You guys just gave me a nice little lesson on why these things are the way they are. Going to have to think of the way the rivers roll south of Canton & Youngstown.

I knew what the continental divide was but had no idea a state could have one too. Always cool to learn new things.

Ohio has both it's good and bad reasons about living here. If you live in the Ohio River valley mostly along the Ohio River you have a 90-95% chance of having been exposed to infectious disease Histoplasma capsulatum. (Histoplasmosis) It's rampant in that area of the country and most people never realize it. Ask you eye doctor about it, they know you grew up in the one of the river valleys' of Ohio or Mississippi without even asking. It's one of the leading causes of blindness in people under the age of 40. Luckily most people never have symptoms outside of a persistent cough that they think due to allergies. Occasionally, like my daughter, the infection moves into the eyes causing blindness or large blind spots. There is no cure.

The Boundaries that are Ohio is of a Political State that over time will come and go and is nothing more than an imaginary line.

@SmedleyWarIsaRacket
@

The sad part about data centers is its city and county councils that are approving the plans to build them. If you want to fight data centers in your area you are better served getting involved in the local political scene.

@lisawulf1189

We don't want the data centers....

@nummynummy3705

That's why Ohio will always be "The Heart of it all" and not that moronic "Find it Here" slogan that they had changed it to. As many others have said though, screw the data centers!!!

@Teslaman

I was born in and live in ohio. I fucking hate it here . the weather is as unpredictable as its psychotic inhabitants. The only industry left in this god forsaken state is the drug and human trafficking trades. If god truly loved this world he would slam an asteroid smack dab in the middle of downtown Cleveland and vaporize this wasteland .

Life long Ohio native here. Another unique trait is the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center, incorrectly refered to as the "Lima Army Tank Plant". All tanks for all 5 branches of the military are manufactered there , exclusively.
