Seeing all these people complaining about tourism is honestly kinda funny.

Because by actively driving away tourists they lose a MASSIVE source of money.

Which means the economies that have been built on tourism just collapse as said places don’t produce anything else.

I think there are pretty effective ways to tackle this issue actually.

1. Taxes. You said they won't reduce tourists in areas like Paris? Of course they will, just depends on how high they are. If you tax 10.000$ per night, there certainly won't be any tourists visiting anymore. That's a ridiculous exaggeration but you get my point. More taxes with less tourists can solve many issues here, such as:
2. Housing. Less tourists, less demand for apartments.
3. Social housing. The taxes can be used to invest in social housing to ease the housing market.
4. More hotels. I understand how this sounds counterproductive but it puts additional pressure on Airbnbs.
5. Loosen the renting regulations. Also counterintuitive but places like Spain have horrendous rental regulations for landlords. Of course this makes them more likely to switch to Airbnb. If you allow them to make a certain level of income from normal renting and simultaneously reduce demand for Airbnbs with the aforementioned policies, they will switch back. Airbnb is a lot of administrative work and headache compared to normal renting. If that's not worth it anymore, many won't bother.
6. Other uses for taxes. The tourist taxes could also ease rising costs of living caused by tourism, the higher demand on infrastructure etc. Yes there will be a limit here and I haven't done the calculation but c'mon, 4$ a night in Barcelona is pathetic. There is a lot more in this.

In conclusion I think there are a lot of wheels you can turn here.

Ban AirBnB and build more hotels. National or local governments could even straight up build and operate hotels themselves, make a bit of money on the side and gain a small amount of control of how many rooms for tourists are actually available at any given time.

I live in a very small village called Äkäslompolo in the finnish lappland. Only about 600 people live here and during the winter season (december-march) the number of tourists balloons upto 25 000 for the whole duration of that season.

It’s complete madness, seasonal workers from around Finland and even worse, outside of Finland are hired to serve ignorant, selfish and entitled ”guests” that think that they can do anything just because they paid a lot of money to be there.

None of the money they bring with them actually helps the local economy. The only ones benefitting are rich business owners that don’t even live there.

And every year it gets worse. More and more rich ”developers” buying land and building these god awfull looking cabins that dumb tourists are willing pay anything for, just to see some reindeer and northern lights.

My home is being scalped for the name of some scoundrels profit and tourists are too ignorant and stupid to realise that mass tourism is to blame.

the fact that they're saying "Tourists out, migrants welcome" despite migrants doing everything tourists do and worse but never leaving makes me think they deserve it.

I suggest travelling in the off season. No crowds and the people in the service industry are actually happy to see you. We went to Europe in early January for our honeymoon, and it was great. Walking around a quiet Venice at night was great, and it was awesome being able to walk into any restaurant and get seated right away by someone with a genuine smile on their face.
