It's hard for anyone to compete against EPL money sadly, even the huge clubs like Juve, Inter, and Milan. However, Serie A is still the 2nd best league in the world at the moment.

No football league can overcome the advantage the Premier League has because of the English language and the dominance (and excellence) of anglosaxon media. This gap is getting bigger because interest in football is on the rise internationally and countries in other regions of the world are getting rich enough to pay good money to watch top-level football. For most of them, the Premier League is the logical choice because they understand English, and media coverage, story telling, discussions etc are essential for football fans.
It would have been more interesting to compare the Italian league with those of France and Germany. (Spain also has some language advantage)

Strange how with how well known italians are with fixing things, their stadia are still bad.

I like Epl the most but still in second place by far i rate seria a . Its more competitive have a lot of big teams with big history and fans. Teams like Roma and Lazio, Fiorentina , Parma , Napoli , Torino etc besides the big trio Milan Inter Juve. La Liga is boring only two of three big games in season.

The thing that always struck me about Italian football, even when it was still decent say 15 years ago, was the empty seats. I remember watching Inter VS Milan and there were empty seats, but at other stadiums they could be half empty. It says a lot when Italian players are choosing England over living in Italy, because Italy, even post-migrant crisis is paradise.

IMHO, immigration. This year, Gattuso came out in front of Bosnia with 11 players from 9 different clubs. Half of them are from different leagues. Meaning you have only THREE guys who are actually used to playing together, and a total of maybe 5 guys who even play in the same league. Yeah, not even Dagur Sigurdsson could make that work (fabled Icelandic handball coach who did wonders with the Croatian handball team).

And speaking of Croatia; someone might ask "hang on, YOU have the same situation in YOUR team; except YOU are the immigrants. How come that actually works?" and you'd be... wrong, to ask. It works because 80% of our players can all be traced to staring in one club: Dinamo Zagreb. So maybe they don't play together at the moment, but it's highly likely they did so in the past.

The national team aren’t doing much better. Euro 2020 aside, their World Cup run has been abysmal. Since they won the final in 2006 they’ve failed to win a single knockout game (or even reach the stage); have only won ONE group game (vs England in 2014); and have failed to qualify for the finals since 2014. One group WC victory in 20 years. Would’ve been unthinkable back in the 90s.

I think the answer is most clubs have global brands now and Italian history with the lack of colonisation and culture being distinct, makes it the hardest to transport overseas.

Italian teams (and its national one) play to not let the opponent win, they play to draw, playing with a highly defensive set up, and can be done if you have 1 or 2 top strikers on the field that can score by themselves. Something the national team lacks nowadays.
