Why Blade Runner 2049 Kinda Sucks | Movie Review / Rant
Video Overview & Insights
Movie review / rant explaining why Blade Runner 2049 kinda sucks.
Totally agreed! Nice video, thanks! 👍🏻👍🏻
Blade Runner 2049 is a 2017 American neo-noir science fiction film directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green. A sequel to the 1982 film Blade Runner, the film stars Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford, with Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Lennie James, Dave Bautista, and Jared Leto in supporting roles. Ford and Edward James Olmos reprise their roles from the original. Set thirty years after the first film, Gosling plays K, a Nexus-9 replicant "blade runner" who uncovers a secret that threatens to destabilize society and the course of civilization. Original director Ridley Scott served as an executive producer on the film.
Principal photography took place between July and November 2016, mainly in Budapest, Hungary. Blade Runner 2049 premiered in Los Angeles on October 3, 2017, and was released in the United States in 2D, 3D, and IMAX on October 6, 2017. The film was praised by critics for its performances, direction, cinematography, musical score, production design, visual effects, and faithfulness to the original film, and was considered by many critics to be among the best films of 2017. Despite positive reviews, the film was a box office disappointment, grossing $260 million worldwide against a production budget between $150–185 million.
So surprised people seem to think it a masterpiece

always love these cute lil contrian videos where people have their opinions validated and get to proclaim "finally an HoNeSt review!!!" - or that any remote praise for something is either paid shills or vapid moviegoers.
I genuinely don't care whether someone likes a piece of media or not. Sure, I watch reviews like this all the time. But I just know what I personally like, and really, that's all that should matter on an individual level. Some mfs just can't live with their own perspectives; it HAS to be confirmed by another. Which isn't a bad thing. Yet as a result, most online discussion still lacks any notion of subjectivity and refuses to entertain a different way of seeing things. And then, it becomes: "well actually you're RETARDED and have BAD TASTE and this SUCKS. period" lol. But of course, it's often the same thing both ways.
In any case, I think this movie was/still is awesome and one of the greater sequels ever made. I found much of this review to be petty and deliberately disingenuous, which one of the top comments here goes into detail refuting (**and btw; interesting that's the one of the only comments you didn't engage with at ALL). But hey, that's just my opinion of your opinion. So it doesn't really mean anything.
Goodbye, godspeed, and good luck with whatever you got going on.
The only good review I’ve seen of this movie. It was total crap and you expressed why perfectly.
@lafemmeanglaiseWhy people can't say it's really bad movie, even though not even single people enjoyed it.
@sunilpatel8357It was unwatchable
@TheBagOfHoldingThe fact that they can run through concrete wall, at the same time puncher with scalpers 😅😂
@isaaccolney9357Just watched this movie. Loved the original, hated this one. Sooo many scenes of no dialogue with characters staring at the camera. Literally drove me crazy. Harrison Ford's character also didn't seem like the same guy. I get he's older and broken, but he didnt really have any of the same qualities. No music, unnerving sounds throughout, so many scenes of just staring into space. Hated it
@TreyParker23Deeply flawed script.
@dariostabletopbastelecke4846This is such a disingenuous review of a movie it’s almost disgusting. Genuinely gross how you’ve misrepresented the movie and spewed it out onto this movie
@theamazingwebhead6453The original absolutely inspired me to love movies as a kid, 2049... oh I fell asleep.
@sarahjaneross2918The Movie Sucks. It's a shame. It'S about nothing. It's sadly so pretentious!
@DariosRetroGamesConsoles1111Horrible movie tbh
@lowstaarEvery Android TV series are all well received. The Brits have one, so too the Danes or Norwegian or some scandinavian.
A Neo Noir, Neo Steam Punk movie, series or franchise would be well received.
It just that Bladerunner 2049 did not have any of that, it was just sterile, fake !
Hollywood needs their superstars back so much that they billboard an actor so lacking charisma as their brightest hope....this video is the only one on YT thats brave enough to spell that out? That Ryan Gosling lacks any charisma. The best thing you can say about Gosling, at least, is that as a former child star he s got both feet on the ground, autistic or NOT hahaha
@chasx7062looks like a video game
@yahu5988I loved this movie and still do. Ryan has that Drive/Only God Forgives vibe going for him in this movie.
@philleotardo8760Cool review Vaughn...Yep, total cinematic bummer, dude 😟😟😟 Honestly think WB, Alcon Entertainment and Scott Free buried any chance of a franchise. If they eventually do a Part III, they need to retcon 2049. The new BR needs to go FULL AVATAR IMAX mode...
@k.t.5405The Blade Runner films are art films there not really conventional movies thats why both films flopped despite good reviews. These types of flicks are about the atmospher and mood not really the plot itself these films are for people who are fans of cinema as an art form rather then an entertainment form. Both Blade Runner films are slow and focus mostly on mood and atmosphere over plot the plots for both films are basic its the higher caliber visuals and film execution that raises the bar of the films themselves in my opinion.
@boomstickcritique902This movie is awesome bro what
@ryanfreeborn4252And you’re a f000000 joke 🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨
@juniorcudjoe8471Eyecandy movie. Dumb people's "art".
@rolphylewis6196You’re blind, dumb and insanely pretentious.
You’re only right when you said “there’s more to this than I know”. Lol.
Please stop making videos. Thank you.
You’re an idiot dude. Both Bladerunner movies are masterpieces.
@spearhead5053Not a fan of it the first like 20 minutes were coo then idk it was kinda boring from there imo I thought there would b more but maybe a sequel would b coo
@armonbrown213It’s interesting to find this video as someone who loves this movie to death. Maybe even more so than the original.
I haven’t seen the video yet so I’m sure there’s some truth to it that I haven’t thought of before. I’ll update my comment after I watch it.
Edit: Well I gave it a watch and personally I think he has a blatantly wrong understanding of blade runner but everyone is allowed their own opinion. I'm not going to go into depth otherwise I would basically write a whole novel, but Bladerunner 2049 has become my all time favorite movie. I think it tackles all sorts of issues perfectly. I honestly find the pacing perfect but I can understand that is not for everyone. I found it really well written enough so that it lives in my mind nearly all the time.
I highly disagree that it sucks, but I respect y'all's oppinions.
In short, if don’t like to think or bother, this movie will be good for you.
@JUST_SOME_SHY_GUYThis movie as a special feature. It’s for me the best movie to sleep. I think I stated the movie more than 20 times now and I was never ever able to finish it.
@3loirdsa277I have awful dish net , noticed they gave this movie a rating of 3 1/2 stars ,.. think they mean 3 and half hours long ,..I turned this off round the time Harrison Ford makes his first appearance,...like 2 hours in ,..dish net gave King Kong 1976 w Jessica Lang 1 and a half stars , but this pile of garbage 3 and a half stars? not sure who's in charge of rating movies ,..but they're clearly on heavy dope
@drewfinisher11i absolutely hated this movie, and i think ryan gosling was definitely miscast because he does shine in a lot of roles where he's allowed to express more emotion or be comedic.
its really frustrating that a lot of people will say they liked this movie or say that its great but they cant articulate why, its almost like theres nothing to actually like about it
I laughed so hard "Ryan Gosling is simply present in movies he's an actor in the sense that his body reflects light back to the camera"
@smudgepostI fucking love sci-fi, in books, videogamea, movies and series. I tried so hard to like these movies but both of them put me too sleep. I found them so boring.
@Likitu264Great summary of some of the many flaws of this film. One thing that really bugged me was how they could fool so many people into believing K was the child. I mean, he's a replicant cop. He definitely comes from some sort of factory and he would have been checked many times before being given a badge and a gun. There's no way he could have come out of nowhere without the authorities knowing it. Also, when the Dr sees his memory, she instantly knows it's a real one. How would she know that so quickly and with such certainty unless it's hers? The whole screenplay was written "so the movie can happen" (as Ryan George would say) and not because it made any sense.
@misterwhyteWrong Director
@Pep9siLooks boring.
@thewishmasturI don't get it. I really liked this movie. It wasn't as good as the first one granted but still this movie is art. What did you want? The Avengers? Mass produced swill?
@helmutweikert3054Why is it so important to Wallace that we own the stars or whatever? What is his motivation to populate ??
@DaveHandelman-tv2ovOk everyone, it's been 5 years. Are we all ready to admit that people only liked this movie because it looks pretty and it has practical effects?
@horaciosiWhat did you think of the dune movie, prisoners and the rest of denis villeneuves movies ?
@gentlesavage2068Old Blade Runner is a 80s Film...it Sucks itself...Wait 40 to Do a Unfinished Pretencious Peace of Trash. It sucks more and more....
@fabricio4794The movie is complete garbage. People that like it for visuals are dense morons. There is more to a film or art in general than only visuals - this one lacks everything but that. A toddler can create a world in their mind or even on paper that may seem interesting in its own but being presented on a screen becomes something entirely different. That's exactly what this movie feels like a toddler made it up.
I mean really both are complete and utter piles of crap that rely on weak, bare bones background world to entice and audience. We no longer live in the 80s and this film is no where close to ground breaking visuals that the original once was able to produce. It's almost laughable in terms of everything presented.
If you thought this film was boring then you have the patience of a new-born puppy
@korokleafgaming6863Not only is 2049 a masterpiece, but it is SIGNIFICANTLY better than the first Blade Runner. I'm sorry 🤷♂️
@ghostface93wu4eva9Zardoz is a great scifi movie.
@koffeekageTheres better movies. Its shot beautifully but thats about it
@FantasyYeetI like your nit picks and cynical takes you are so smart hahahah
@borass69assI couldn't agree more with all your points. I found this movie to be a complete snooze fest and very uninspired. I really enjoyed the original film but this is just a rehash for stupid people
@NeoNyderI was so excited to see this and after it was done i felt so disgusted... worst movie ever!!!
@evanescapades2513They aren not “androids” or robots. They are man made living organisms. Not like terminator. Also the first blade runner SUCKS as well.
@Kryptos-AletheiaThis movie makes Star Trek: The Motion Picture and 2001: A Space Odyssey look like Mad Max: Fury Road. Everybody and everything is in suspended animation. The most boring movie in existence. I might as well stare at a skyscraper for 3 hours.
