Still don't get why this is a problem; how is information being destroyed in a very extreme edge case a threat to the laws of physics that work generally fine outside that extreme edge case?

How Black Holes Could Delete The Universe – The Information Paradox

So either physics is wrong, physics is still wrong, or black holes spontaneously spit out new universes so that physics is right. Well now I’m confused.

Could it not be that information in black holes is stored in time rather than space? After all, do we not think that time and space are effectively reversed in a singularity?

Could everything that exists only exist in the way that it already does because that's the only way it can? Surely the actual laws of the universe are the only things that dictate existence and how it's formed or what it's composed of? We have discovered things like the higgs field that theoretically gives particles their mass, the information must surely be a characteristic of this field in order to keep creating the fundamental building blocks of the universe?
Perhaps the information returns to the higgs field at the point of crossing a black hole's event horizon.

Remember, our best theory for the creation of the universe is the big bang. We know of no information or what existed before yet our cosmos somehow exists.

We just don't know enough, this is becoming more and more apparent.

@knurled1
@

you cant leave a black hole but u lso cant reach the singularity so does that mean a black hole is an hyper sphere

@MPKD-b3t
@

someone claimed that we're "safe" from a black hole is incorrect. our solar system is already in a galaxy's pull where it will eventually meet the black hole at its centre. it's just far away and it's gonna be a long time, long after life here is exstinct.

@TheHighRunner
@

What really gets me about the holographic principle is the implication that the distinction between "inside" and "outside" a black hole might be an illusion. If information is encoded on the event horizon as a 2D surface, then the 3D interior we imagine — the falling astronaut, the singularity — may never physically exist in a fundamental sense. It's the universe's most extreme version of a projection. The idea that we ourselves might be holograms on some cosmic boundary isn't just philosophy — it's a testable prediction of certain string theory models. That's what makes this one of the most profound open questions in all of physics.

@patykwie992
@

Well cos reality is an infinite fractal loop at every observable scale and time doesn't really exist, because where else is the energy gonna go, it's almost certainly the case that the singularity we call the big bang is just energy being looped backwards.

I wrote a story about this when I was like 9... Long before I knew anything at all about physics... Seems obvious but who knows.

I was the universe so I just looked at a rock, which was also the universe, so all I had to do was pay attention.

Why does it have to be a black hole? Why can't it just be a dark hole you freakin racists!

@Ozoid_2112
@

Since mass / energy cannot be destroyed and eventually a black hole radiates until it completely dissipates, wouldn't all of the mass / energy that a black hole collected be in the universe still? I guess with the expansion of the universe over time it would just be so vastly spread that it wouldn't come in contact with other material. Or, am I missing something? Genuine question, no sarcasm intended here.

Can someone explain to me why black holes loose particles faster when they’re tiny? My logic brain would think a large radius is more possible bandwidth but thats nit whats going on here then…. Is it due to the singularity being closer to the horizon? That the transition is easier?
