I have watched your videos for over 10 years now and I still hunger for the topics. It is great that you still find so much interesting topics. But, I've noticed a shift to a more 'flashy" style of storytelling, which makes me not look forward to any new videos anymore for some time now. There is less historical content and more embellishing imo (like the kidnapping and rescue here). In the same sense there's a lot of 'enthusiasm' like watching a sports game, which feels out of place for me. I'm more of a fan of the older format with which I fell in love and hope you revisit that style. But of course: it's your channel and if your rates remain in a good spot and you enjoy this more, keep up the good work.

I used to watch a lot of this channel and extra credits and I really hated this video. The format of talking to yourself, congratulating yourself, depicting yourself as clever really felt uncomfortably self-indulgent. It took a painfully long time for the content to actually start what with the whole setup for these characters and then the setup for the content itself. I clicked on a video titled "Where did playing cards come from?" because I wanted to learn where playing cards came from. Surely you can entertain your audience without layering some invented narrative on top of it all. The content itself was genuinely engaging and it baffles me every time you cut back to bantering with yourself roleplaying as characters in a scene I don't care about.

I hope the henchmen become part of other videos lol

The simplistic art style of this channel is so much better than hyper detailed AI slop

You forgot to mention how the ace of spades got the death card reputation because of the tax on playing cards. The punishment for forging an ace was either beheading or hanging. Surprised you left that out.

Fun Fact! In your typische Dutch deck you don't actually have kings, queens or Jack. No: you have instead Lords, Ladies (which in Dutch is literally just the Dutch word for women with an extra e on the end to make it fancy) and Farmers.
The reason for this is that until the Napoleonic Wars the Netherlands was a republic. Eventually Napoleon installed his brother on the throne, until he got sacked because he was actually standing up for Dutch people. And the at the Congress of Vienna England insisted we get a king and no it could not be the one you actually want, you have to make your princely family king.
One losing of Belgium, a second king, the revolutionary year of 1848 and blackmailable bisexuality later you get the Dutch constitution, which is how you get the current situation of a republic with a king.

The aces are also different, instead of just showing the symbol it also shows important architectural landmarks. Many actually being built or restored by the same dude: Pierre Cuypers.
I've personally always seen these as representing the all important cities which have dominated Dutch life and identity since before even the start of the 80 years war (in fact their rights was part of the original start of the conflict).
The republic was dominated by the competing desires and rivalries of the cities in fact. And even nowadays the Netherlands is the densist nonmicrostate country in Europe!
And that would be even higher if you just included the massive agglomeration known as the Randstad (edge city, named so because it surrounds the "groene hart", green heart).
In geography class in the middelbare (similar to highschool?) we had a period where we were just learning about the Netherlands. We had to books:
Cities and Water Management.
Deep knowledge on those two subjects explained the entirety of the Netherlands it was decided.
