I want to work in quant finance industry and I'm about to choose which majors I'm gonna take. At the beginning, I wanna take data science, yet I heard that many people with CS degree are getting laid off, so now I'm unsure if I should take data science or finance because finance allows me to broaden my opportunity if I cannot get into the quant finance industry. Can somebody give me some advice about my case? Thank you.

What of a background in Actuarial science at undergraduate level, does it also give one some good starting point in the career as a quant?

Been thinking of double bachelor for EE and applied math since in my home country you only pay for tuition once regardless of additional courses but I am not sure if it is worth a slightly better signal since my target uni has one of the best engineering courses globally.

might be a stupid question, but wouldn't a quant internship be what you should aim for if you want to work in quant? or are there non-quant firms for internships you can do that quant firms would still look favorably at when hiring?

I'm from South Africa.
I am entering my final undergraduate year in Computer Science and I must choose a second major for quant finance.
I am looking at two routes.
Option 1. Computer Science plus Mathematics
First semester
• Computer Science
• Discrete Mathematics
• Real Analysis
Second semester
• Complex Analysis
• Abstract Algebra
Option 2. Computer Science plus Statistics
First semester
• Computer Science
• Linear Modelling
Second semester
• Time Series
• Intro to Machine Learning
• Stochastic Processes
I would value input from people in trading, quant research, or quant development. I want to understand which route gives stronger preparation for real quant work. I want to know if deep theory from Mathematics adds more long term value or if the applied focus in Statistics offers a stronger start.
Thank you for your time and guidance.
hey dude i have 2 options for college one is to study B stat and other is to study B math, which one shall i pursue, when looking at the package B stat graduates has a better package than B math though the institute is same and well respected.
B stat is more like applied maths where as the B math is more research oriented, pure mathematics
