What's inside the U.S.-Iran deal announced by Trump

Video Overview & Insights

The United States and Iran have agreed to end months of conflict, creating a pathway toward a broader agreement over Iran's nuclear program. But questions remain. Imtiaz Tyab has more.

This will be worse than the JCPOA and it costs us over 29 billion and lost troops - plus we are headed to a recession. Who knew a guy that bankrupted a casino would make such a bad deal?

Genuine question, what about this deal is different from Obama’s? It seems like we spent billions on destroying something that was working, just to build it again with a lot less trust.

Trump created a middle east mess that has made the region and the world more unstable than it was. His promises to help the innocent Iranian people are no longer coming out of his mouth as usual proving that his promises are worthless! He's created an economic nightmare around the world and put in motion an escalating problem with food insecurities including famine in many countries and certainly higher prices to come by mid summer and beyond right here at home. Meanwhile we're at the mercy of Israel and Hezbollah to see which gets trigger happy first and restarts it all over again... Trumps "Memorandum of Understanding" sounds to me more like a DEAL MADE ON QUICKSAND! I hope it all holds but have no faith in ANYTHING that comes out of his mouth!

The US and Iran have agreed to extend their ceasefire by 60 days, President Donald Trump and mediators revealed Sunday. The countries are scheduled to sign a deal Friday in Switzerland.
Iran has agreed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to all commercial vessels "toll-free," Trump says, and the US will end its naval blockade on Iranian ports. The ceasefire is also predicated on an end to the conflict in Lebanon, where Israel has been fighting the Iranian-backed Hezbollah. Details surrounding Iran’s nuclear program—including the fate of its stockpile of enriched uranium—are slated to be discussed after the deal is signed.

The deal is give back Iran the money owed to them and they will reopen the straits. Basically, it would have been much better if the war never happened. Billions spent. People died. Property damaged. Nuclear material still with Iran. Iran government still in place.

Iran is being allowed a maximum of 10,000 nuclear weapons only to be used on Democratic sanctuary states sounds like a good deal

The Trump method: He treats the presidency not as a sacred institution, but as the management of a private corporation. To him, democratic checks and balances, career diplomacy, and ideological principles are "obstacles" that hinder his ability to strike quick deals. By personalizing foreign policy, he blurs the line between the national interest and his own personal gain or ego

The problem though is no matter what deal is signed, the Americans cannot be trusted to keep it beyond the whim of their Dear Leader's constant need for attention and adoration. It will not last because America is no longer a nation which can be trusted to honour its word.

A ceasefire agreement is a welcome development. However, it is unclear why the U.S. should have any troops in the region to die for an apartheid state that possesses nuclear weapons, is led by an indicted war criminal, and is engaged in land theft, illegal settlements, genocide, and ethnic cleansing for all to see. It seems that Trump may have been bribed, or even blackmailed by Netanyahu, to initiate his crazy war with Iran, but we will probably never know for sure.

US agreed to Iran demands.

@JoePesci-ww1dm

The reported MOU ( Memorandum of Understanding) between the US and Iran is more of a roadmap than a final peace treaty. The MOU is intended to last about 60 days. The key elements are:

Reduce the risk of military conflict.
Keep the Strait of Hormuz open.
Begin intensive negotiations on Iran's nuclear program.
Address sanctions and frozen assets.
Create conditions for a longer-term agreement.

So this is a framework which will give Iran's radical IRGC more time to consolidate power and squelch any opposition to their power. An Iranian regime change is the answer to any worthwhile agreement. Expect Iran to continue to stall any important changes until Trump is out of office.

Iran's IRGC mindset equals "games people play". Iran interacts through hidden motives, deception, and religious ideology - rather than straightforward, honest communication. That is their agenda, and they are remarkably successful at carrying it out.

We were better off before Trump decided to start a war. Obama's deal was far, far less costly and nobody died. Trump got played like a joker by Nutty-yahu.

Why do journalists never ask why their country can have nuclear’s but they don’t want another to have them…if a country doesn’t want a country to have nuclear’s, they also shouldn’t have them themselves…..
