What is research?

Video Overview & Insights

What comes to mind when you think about research? Probably a laboratory with test tubes, microscopes, and scientists wearing white lab coats. This setup is ideal for researchers in some disciplines, such as virologists studying viral infections, physicists developing new electronic devices, or chemists creating new materials. Other possibilities, like searching through historical archives or distributing surveys about consumer preferences, may also come to mind. That’s research too! #research #scicomm #storytelling

The analogy goes like this. Imagine that you are a student about to take your A-level mathematics official examination in next 2 weeks.
You saw a new mathematics textbook from a different publisher in a bookshop. You bought the book and returned home. One
day around 5.30 pm, you attempt to do 5 questions from the textbook, you selected 5 random questions from these 5 chapters: Matrices, Complex numbers,
Vectors, Differentiation and Integration. You spend about 25 minutes doing the five mathematics questions, scribbling down your working
on 5 different sheet of papers. The time is about 6 pm, you stopped and went out to play basketball with your friends. You returned
home around 7.30 pm. You took a bath and had a dinner with your family. You returned back to your study table and checked your scribbled down 5 answers
against the book's answers section. To your horror, you found out that you have got it all wrongs. But you said "Hey, I have published 5 papers, right?
See, I am holding 5 A4 size sheet of papers".

Another student somewhere out there, did the same feat, but she attempted 2 questions from 2 chapters: Differential Equations and Numerical Methods and she
got it all rights, a 2 out of 2 and you got 0 out of 5. But you said, "Hey I published more papers than her, 5, she only got 2. I deserved
to be an assistant professor, right? If I keep on publishing more, I get to be promoted to be a full tenured university professor,
keep on doing this, then onward to become a university president or chancellor or maybe a future director of a research institute, right?"

You found out that your friend Thomas, did the same feat, he also got it all wrongs, 0 out of 5 from the same 5 chapters. But this is okay, since you are going to
put a reference at the end of your 5 papers, citing Thomas's work and Thomas returned the favor and did the same, citing your work.
Then you lied to your mum (the government), "Mum, see I have done 5 questions, my friend Thomas looked at my workings and say they are all correct". Your Mum replied,
"Well done!, here is $25 (research grants) for 5 mathematics questions attempted, now try more questions, try the physics and chemistry problems!".

Now you have them all: published papers, citations, H-index, impact factors, government research grants, tenureship, promotion to Dean, etc...
Human beings will go such a great length just to survive on government welfare and keep on sucking on government teat until they retire comfortably
as emeritus professors at age 80.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

According to Surbakti (2017), online gaming has become a new lifestyle for some junior high school students. Addiction to these games has a negative impact on learning performance. Such addiction can manifest as a lack of interest in studying, which, in turn, can affect a student's learning performance.

Based on a study by Rahyuni, et al (2021), online gaming addiction leads to a decline in academic performance, reduced learning motivation, and decreased social time. Therefore, an individual's lifestyle influences their dependence on online gaming, which, in turn, affects learning motivation and academic performance as well as social time. Online gaming can affect students' learning motivation negatively if they excessively engage in it, resulting in negative effects such as a lack of social time with peers and an impact on academic performance.

Addiction to online games as a student means lack of interest in studying, that lead the learners to decline in overall grading also having lack of interaction in the fellow students because the mind was occupied in the game to add it reduced motivation to study because of eagerness to play instead focusing in class the mind set was in games.

According to Erna (2021) discovered, the higher the level of addiction, the lower the academic performance in comparison to students with lower levels of online gaming addiction. This means that if students spend a lot of time on or are addicted to online games, their learning performance will decline, but the reverse will occur if students spend more time studying and focusing on their academics. Therefore, students need to have a high level of awareness to effectively manage their time for various needs, especially when it comes to balancing time for gaming, studying, rest, and other activities. This is because online games do not have negative effects if students know how to allocate their time effectively. If students know how to manage their time very well, having a screen time isn’t a problem.

Experiments are something that should be done with your permission, not anonymously.

No person should ever force you to do something that you disagree with!

Think about that 🙃

Thing such as paper term that there much information sources of the assignment or making videos to let the audience of the market need to know, but there's much other individual researcher that trying not to make the analysis paper out of what they already know, then here comes the new researcher questioning the same question that the conclusion is already some of people know without giving any new information based on observation only (many) cites. That all being presentated and given the research paper, is that can still called as "research."

English is the language of instruction in many academic fields, so students

who are proficient in English are better able to understand course materials,

Personally I don't think I'm cut out for research. In terms of its significance, I can confidently say that this has wonderful contributions to all fields in the realm of academia. However it will cost you a lot in terms of using brainpower to get through this. As someone who's not thoroughly academically inclined, I still see why some people are actively pursuing this, even if they keep saying it's worth the sacrifices they had to put through in order for this to push through essentially.

The video was brief yet well-explained. The definition of research and its importance were clearly stated. The process of how research is done is also well explained, as they relate it to some examples. From that, we realized that research is something that you cannot frantically done but well-thought and criticized yet well-researched.
