After my 1st trip I learned something VERY important. Most of the upscale restaurants don't even open to 4pm But if your looking for food at a reasonable price. There is nothing better than Union Station, tons of places to eat. BTW a cop told me this following be careful when getting food from a food truck. Make sure they have all their tags. Food poisoning can and will happen.

Give yourself a break. Stay in one of the business hotel/motels out in Rockville and take the FREE shuttles to the local metro station? Call them and they will come and pick you up at the end of day and make you trip easy. Lodging is much cheaper, safer and when you are through you are right next to it 270 going home, or south to north VA. Meyto is cheap and easy to use and will get you ANYWHERE.😊

Washington DC is the ultimate destination for history lovers. I took my daughter last August and we loved it! Felt very safe.
Our tips:
Good walking shoes are an absolute must!
Bring a cheap, light refillable water bottle.
Cooling neck cloths work better than neck fans.
Lyft is cheaper than Uber.
When leaving dc place your metro card on top of the machine for fellow travelers to use. We still had $13 on our and a lady from Australia couldn’t get her card to work so we gave ours to her.
Arlington is the best!
As well as the national Archives!
Book a hotel with free breakfast.
You’re going to do a lot of walking so allow plenty of time

Adams Morgan and Georgetown, the National Zoo, Rock Creek Park, Meridian Hill, for the best scenic sight after the Washington Monument, Embassy Row, National Cathedral. A beautiful city I had the pleasure to call home for 30+ years. October is the best month to visit.
Venture outside the mall area, you'll be surprised.
