What Does A Music Artist Manager Do?

I’m a music manager in entern right now. Setting up my company so I can apply to grands and funds. Can then hire lawyers to write up insurance and contracts. Then I can start investing my funds into the artists I want.

I wonder about something though: I want to be my friends manager, she's a great musician with a fanbase, I want to bring her to the next level, I have no previous experience in that, I want to do it learning by doing. What happens with my role when she gets really famous and record labels want to make a contract with her and they have their own professional management teams, a huge network, professionalized structures etc. She will not need me anymore, right? Like how do I become part of that contract?

Yup. This sounds like exactly what I need. I rock at writing and performing ... fucking hate paperwork 😐

the biggest takeaway here is that a good manager handles the business so the artist can focus on creating. but the part most people skip is making sure the management agreement clearly defines the commission structure, the term length, and what happens to songs written during the deal if you part ways
