I liked wicked act 2 better in almost every way....

I've never seen the musical in full (only listened to the album), but I was disappointed with Fiyero's transformation scene. I didn't get the sense of urgency that his life was in danger at all, which made Elphaba's No Good Deed number seem too abrupt, and then I think John Chu tried to drag out the reveal of him as the Scarecrow for too long.
Overall, I did go in thinking, "How on earth are they going to make a 2 hour movie out of the second act?" and I totally agree with Ben's analysis there.

Wicked for Bad, it's bad, you know it...

I loved the first movie so much that I dont think anything needed to be changed. I liked the second movie a lot, but def liked the 1st one best. I agree with Ben that the best music number on the 2nd movie is the final song. I think both actresses/singers did an amazing job. They are absolutely amazing. I think Ariana Grande's voice is so soft, sweet, and smooth, so she sounds like a true princess in the movie, and Cynthia has the power vocals that fit Elphaba. They were perfect choices for these movies. The second movie is a lot darker, except towards the end when we see the hope (I dont want to spoil for anyone).

Why do they write it in such retarded ways?

I am lgbtq and think of Glinda and Elphaba as friends and totally not fazed by anyone who likes to imagine they is gay. People ship characters all the time. I like how 90s sitcom Scrubs just embraced the bromance with JD and Turk and made a whole thing about it, not taking it so seriously. Women can do that too.

I noticed that after leaving the theater, I had Defying Gravity stuck in my head. A song from the first Act. Which means Act 2 isn't really that memorable

Not really a fan of turning the entire story of the Wizard of Oz upside down.
It just feels like typical Marxist deconstruction to make the good characters evil and the evil characters good. And I know the people who do that are typically fundamentally evil themselves.

Just look at how they do that to the founding fathers. How they make Muslims the good guys in the Crusades, never mind the fact that they were on the verge of trying to enter France, it was just white supremacy and evil Christians.

Instead of removing the filler, the Wicked adaptations added more filler. That was my biggest beef with both movies.

??? Ben you missed the entire point of the story. The musical and movie do not argue that people need to be lied to by their leaders. It’s quite the opposite. The whole idea is that questioning those in power is necessary, and it was clear that Glinda’s presentation in Munchkinland declaring the death of the witch was a morally ambiguous one that represents a tear between truth and political messaging. Furthermore, you completely glossed over such an important theme about the othering of those in society due to systemic biases, and the significance of resistance. I’m not just superimposing my liberal biases on this movie; it’s just clearly the messaging of the entire story. To say otherwise is just a clear ignorance when Schwartz, Holman, and Chu have made these narratives clear both in their work and in public comments. Kudos for trying but dude. Open your mind.

I never plan on watching any of the wicked movies, but I do enjoy bens love for theater. It’s kind of unexpected.

one of the worse kids movies ive ever ever seen. Rewarding self entitled, RUDE, apathetic, arrogant , teachers pet, woe is me but blessed with super powers over a bunch of normal school kids that I actually felt sorry for MORE than the Green Witch that doesnt want to ADAPT to normal society. Hated it. As someone who did get sent to a NEW country and was forced to adapt, im telling you right now, this was HORRIBLE....and maybe even EVIL. I feel so sorry for ALL the amazing writers of the original epics Charlie and the chocolate factory, Wizard Of Oz...just horrid.

I'd love to see Ben Shapiro review HOT FUZZ. That is arguably the most underrated comedy ever to come out of the UK. It also has some underlying anti-liberal running jokes* in it too (*i.e., "the greater good").
