Communism at its base form is literally the democratization of all functional systems of a society including production and distribution.

Syngman Rhee is a dictator?
Unlike North Korea, South Korea established a Constitutional Assembly under the supervision of the United Nations in 1947, created a constitution based on the provisional constitution enacted during the provisional government of the Japanese colonial era, and held general elections under that constitution. It was a government without any legal flaws. The head of the government elected by the people was none other than President Syngman Rhee!
Syngman Rhee was a well-known independence activist, and he had already written a book in English about the dangers of Japanese imperialism before Japan bombed Pearl Harbor.
The reason Syngman Rhee is criticized for being a dictator is because he unreasonably revised the Constitution in 1952 during the war to enable his long-term rule, and based on this, he continued to hold the presidency, which had started as a single term, for consecutive terms. He even had to step down due to the corruption of his close associates!

And at that time, achieving unification of South and North Korea was the common slogan of all politicians and the easiest way to gain support.
Therefore, both Syngman Rhee and Kim Il-sung were in a threatening position to attack the other side, and since Kim Il-sung could not do it on his own, he received aid from the Soviet Union and China.

And since Kim Il-sung's actions were expected to some extent by Stalin of the Soviet Union, his suzerain state, there were no problems and he even received support.
In Syngman Rhee's case, the United States, the suzerain country, strictly avoided physical conflict with the Soviet Union or the communist bloc, and the United States itself paid attention only to Japan, so South Korea was not even properly equipped with self-defense weapons.

Apples to oranges comparison, because democracy has to do with how people are governed and communism has to do with how property is governed. Its very possible for a socialist or communist democracy to exist. The opposite of democratic rule is authoritarianism, not communism. Democracy in essence government of the people, by the people for the people, essential the people have power through participation in political processes and exercising their right to vote, power is distributed widely accross all citizens. Authoritarianism on the other hand is a concentration of power, in the executive branch of government (1 party states) or in the president itself (like say North Korea). If anyone read this, I hope its insightful or helps.

On a personal note, I consider the Chinese a deadly enemy. I do not feel the same way about the Russians any longer. I think we have common causing a few things the Russians need to withdraw from Ukraine and then we can talk about repairing the diplomatic economic issues that have crippled Russia. I live south Korea so much Im just a ten year old knowing alot about ww2 and the battle of yultong and ww2 and ww1 Infantry weapons I see that south Korea is a Very chill country Im happy that south Korea won the war “Love from Philippines”

My pops faught in the Korean war idk much about his time there other than he was in the Army, and I for some reason remember hearing that he was a POW over there but I never wanted to ask any family about it. But then hearing later on in life that POW's were common in that war it made my suspicion stronger. But he ultimately made it home and I was lucky enough to meet him and I remember him. He passed when I was young though 9-13-91 so a few days before my 5th birthday. People say US lost that war I would love to know how? There would not be a South Korea today if not for US. And South is ultimately a very good strategic partner and location to help keep a close eye on the North. So I would love to understand how it was a loss. China feared US having a democratic ally right on their boarder so it would have been all out war. So in hindsight I would say it was a 50/50 drawl. US avoided another decade or 2 of fighting China, and we secured the South their freedom. But it does seem quite disappointing knowing that we could have gotten rid of the North 70 years ago but instead bc of that, they're still there and now still a threat. That's precisely why US knows we can't let Ukraine lose, and while they're down, get rid of them now so we don't have to worry about them 70 years from now. So if we learned anything, it's that.
