What Army Paratroopers Go Through At Airborne School | Boot Camp

Video Overview & Insights

Before they become Airborne-qualified paratroopers, all students must graduate from Airborne School, a three-week course that teaches the techniques involved in parachuting from airplanes and landing safely on the ground. Chief Video Correspondent Graham Flanagan spent five days at Airborne School inside the Fort Benning military installation near Columbus, Georgia, where we observed various classes at different stages of training.

3 weeks of how to jump lol. Can be taught in 3 days lol. Taxpayer money at work Airborne!

— @RanchRecon

Airborne School is broken up into three phases: ground week, tower week, and jump week. During jump week, soldiers must successfully complete five jumps at 1,250 feet from a live aircraft. Paratroopers who successfully meet course requirements get to wear the coveted Silver Wings on their uniform, which they receive during graduation. Airborne-qualified soldiers on current jump status receive an additional $150 per month classified as Hazardous Duty Incentive Pay.

Man they could have done so much better of a report. This documentary missed all of the "isms" of airborne school. The ism of non-stop being kinetic for 3 solid weeks to the point that even pro athletes are "hard" by the end of it. The ism of the cafeteria cram - where you go for PT in the morning and evening and are then run up to the chow hall and you get maybe 5 min to wolf down the food. The ism of the Black Hats and their "drill lore" - all the sayings, all the screaming, all the in your face, all the... it's a whole other planet. The isms of the "6 Minutes!" cadence... And the isms of all the new cadence and marching songs you learn. Loved it.

when i have personal/personnel coaches/trainers, either they need to trim their head hair to a shorter length like a boy cut, or i need to sport a boy-cut look forever.

which way do we go about ?
because i do not like to have women around me who have lengthy hair & styled hair for seduction.

They need to issue the paratroopers the flying wingsuits , those jumpers still have parachutes too and use them near the end of the jump.

More User Perspectives

They get extra pay but they get more than what we were getting which was $55 a month. To jump out of a perfectly good aircraft

@williammromero3544
@

The question is to keep them and you have to keep them more than 14 months unless that's changed to earn them

Our assessment in 1979 included 10 pull-ups; not a “hang”. And that “leg” thing, I wouldn’t eat a chicken leg for over a decade after airborne school 🤣🤣🤣
Airborne school was an experience of a lifetime.

I gotta say I do not have a fear of heights, but I was the first one out of the door in my chalk my first jump. Staring at the ground while you're waiting on the green light is a wrenching moment if you're going to actually jump. but when the SGT Airborne says greenlight and practically pushes you, you don't even have time to think you just jump.

Sadly, theres not gonna be much use as has been. Ai ,automated systems, air ,ground and sea drones are EVERYWHERE and manpads are ridiculously accurate. Unfortunate, its a missle war and robots essentially. "Terminator" era.

Leslie Stahl ended up filming my class back in the day ... Blackhat was livid they made us redo 34ft twr for some film. One of my zero week details was helpful blackhats help the base generals daughter and her friends ride the airborne tower rides ... One of the 250ft towers had guide wires and a two person bench seat .. that thing was awesome...

The hardest part of Airborne school is the slow azz runs and learning to eat chow standing up in line in under 3 minutes.
