If you are a new or beginner welder, watch this video to learn about the three most common welding processes — MIG, stick and TIG — including the advantages and disadvantages of each, when it’s best to use each and what material can be used.

Welding is the liquefaction of base metals with heat to fuse them together. There are three basic elements: heat source, filler metal and the shielding gas or flux. The three most common types of welding processes are MIG, stick and TIG. MIG welding is the most common type of welding and it is easier to learn, much cleaner than stick welding and can be used on a variety of material thicknesses. Stick welding is a flux process, so is better suited for outdoor use and with thicker or dirty materials. TIG welding provides the highest quality weld, both cleaner and more esthetically pleasing.

I have a college degree. For many years I have told young people to consider a trade school. I know a young man that went to the diesel school in havre montana for 5 years. The cost for his education was 0 if you maintain a c or better. He now works on cruse ship engines making fantastic money. With research you can find almost any profession you want to learn. It gets down to how bad do you want it?

I just turned 76 yesterday and I have always wanted to learn how to weld. Ironically, my older brother is an excellent welder and he builds his own high speed chassis now that he is retired. If I wasn't so stubborn I would just let him teach me. But this video gave me the direction I want to go. I am restoring an old VW Bus, and I think MIG would be the way to go. Thanks for the info.
@MichaelReinigA good beginner video would have defined all the words that you used. Nobody (beginner) knows what TIG, MIG, flux, slag, or any of those other words mean. Effective teaching is being able to communicate ideas to people so that they know what you're talking about. Describing what something does, is not same as describing what something is. It's like defining the word car as: It goes fast and you can put stuff in it.
You need to first explain all the words used in a specific field, before you go any further.
I’ve been thinking about welding school, I’m not right out of high school, I entered into an entirely different industry, I love it but I’m kinda burning out because of the cost of living and I don’t want to do it as a hobby anymore. Any tips for a woman thinking about welding?

@deanwashburn7452Retired military. Had a hard time finding a career and purpose after. There’s not many civilian jobs for crewing helicopters.
Wish I stayed mechanic route and never went to the flight company.
Trying to find a trade to devote myself to.
I just wish I knew if 30 is too old to start and expect to be successful and make money or will I just be laughed out for being older and so green.
