@me6-y5uThe Dordogne has been for ages the main holiday destination for the Dutch. If you want to meet Dutch people in summer, go to Sarlat in the Dordogne. Second best: Ardèche.....
Fortunately tourists and holidaymakers always flock together: easy to avoid. France is a big spiderweb of country lanes and quiet places. The best country of Europe to discover by bicycle. Take the perfect French paper maps, not the dreadful smartphones and follow your nose.
Every little town has an Office de Tourisme with friendly people and lots of information: the French love their "Patrimoine".
Dordogne - full of tourists in summer!! Rest of year is probably simply perfect.

The cave at Lascaux is a replica. They don’t tell you that as you buy the tickets.
@paulonapolitano9671I have been in this region. They also have the street markets with lots of interesting things and food. Foie grass and magret are a go.

@firefly5574I’ve been in all these places twice before, many years apart. I loved it then, have superb memories, and relived it through your eyes. Thank you. The perfumes, the Earthy odours, all through the area , are deeply moving for me, so warm, stunning, beautiful. My ancestors are from France and Ireland and both countries bring me to tears of joy and strange familiarity. And the food….OMG.

@PhilipBenham3I loved Sarlat and the whole Dordogne area. I went in the ancient painted cave, Font de Gaum I think it was called, filled with stalactites and stalagmites. The limestone overhang, Cheval Blanc, was carved by the ancient people. Such wonders! The food is awesome! Brantome was unforgettable! ❤️
