We Save Our Victorian Railway Station Before This Tree Falls
Video Overview & Insights
There was one job we couldn’t put off any longer…
If you do not cut the ivy away from the other trees, even more trees will die.
A huge dead tree had been standing over our 130-year-old Victorian railway station, and every storm left us wondering whether this would be the one that brought it crashing down.
Before we could continue restoring the station, we had to tackle one of the biggest and most dangerous jobs we’ve faced so far.
Well done🎉
Join us as we carefully bring down this giant tree, protect the station we’ve worked so hard to restore, and uncover a few unexpected surprises along the way.
Will everything go to plan… or will the tree have other ideas?
🖤💗

Ivy doesn’t kill a tree, but it will suck nutrients from the soil, which can kill the tree.
💬 We’d love to know… have you ever had a dangerous tree close to your home?

You might consider renting a bush hog or tractor with tilling blades to clear out the grounds of your "garden." They will certainly make the job faster, but you'll still have the job of clearing/ raking the debris. If it is allowed, try buring the brush/debris using the small tree branches as kindling. If Wales is having the same heat wave as many other areas, the fire would be better put off until the autumn. Either way, ( summer or autumn), it is much quicker to burn than haul away to the land fill area. You could try hanging bird feeders or bird houses in the left over tree "stump". Turn it into something usefull rather than a "sore thumb". 😂

That ivy is destroying the trees unfortunately.
@ChaiLatte13You should start a hole in what's left for woodpeckers and other birds who use trees as homes.
@MyLeafyLife65What you need next is a engine strimmer with a steel blade to get rid of the brambles
@jasonpocklington9217Secret garden indeed❤
@irenebrown8363🎉🎉🎉🎉great work clearing the trees and great fire wood for your stove in your hut too 🎉🎉🎉🎉
@irenebrown8363Wise move getting rid of dead trees.
@jeanhawken4482That barge board really stands out. It looks lovely.
@lindsayjames216You could hire some goats to clear the brushes out
@lisapedlow7629That must have really "treed" off Gil.
@paulottsGod bless him for helping you all . Amazing work !!🥰
@brendapritchard9785💗🤗💗🤗💗🤗💗🤗💗🙏
@cherylkurucz8852What specie of tree? Ash? Oak?
@lioninwinter9316Goats will clear that out without damaging the ground.
@nicolcasarotto6233What a job! Looks like the expert was a big help. That would have been awful to come down on your roof. Not a total waste because all that firewood will age for use next winter - or the one after that. Guess you'll be managing the trees for a long time to come.
@thizizlizI'm sure they could have taken a single tree down in a day
@2009numanWe have lived on our little 3 acre property for 40 years now and one third was so thick that it was unusable- I attempted many years ago to make a secret garden with a machete but gave up - a couple years ago we hired a man with a big brush hog and within a couple hours he cut us some trails through it so we can use it — it was cheap too - only 200 bucks and the hubby loves driving his little golf cart around and snowmobile trail too - we should have done it years ago - we had a few loads of mulch dumped on it from when a tree service was widening the road and they were happy to give it to us instead of hauling it away
@kathleensmith3555Are renovations done on outside now? Are you working the inside or the same folks that did outside? Are you taking a break from station renovations?
I enjoy your channel.
I think there was something wrong with the audio (just so you know) but great work as always 🫶
@AdamMacleod83Hello to you all, great job gettjng that tree down, tree felling is not as easy as it looks, but it is amazing what these guys can do, now slightly of subjdct, will you be building a garage when you are finished, the main building? Best regards to yoh all from a damp cold Melbourne Australia, Les
@lesthiele9318Clearing brush ......... in shorts?
@cbobwhite5768You need to hire some goats fora few days.
@maryannyork5112We have an invasive video that kills the trees here, Chinese Bitter Sweet. It wraps around the trees and kills them. The birds spread it because it has a small seed.
@shirleydelehanty3466What about that small bare tree between the dead one an the station, is it also dead or just a late "bloomer" ("leafer"?)
@romad275This man knows his job. Good, safe felling work. --- That part of your property really needs some work done on it.
@Jo.-GermanLove the show…hate the music (sorry)
@TeresaHayes-tk7fcLooks like you will have a lot of firewood for the winter.
Those Blackberrys will be a pain to clear out.
Thanks for the video.
Easist fastest most affordable way to deal with thick brush safely is... RENT GOATS. Sounds silly new ageist but RENT A GOAT places do exist and they will have that dense brush reduced to Goat generated fertilizer in as little as 2 days. It will look like a dozen hard workers went in an clear cut it.
@geneard639With the scaffolding down it looks amazing. By clearing the ivy from the trees is a good thing. Great progress so far and well done.
@chrislane3974I have chainsaws and have cut down a few trees, but I would never go up a ladder with a chainsaw.
@TX200AAIvy on a tree is a sign that the tree is in trouble. Ivy lives and supports itself by rooting into the tree.
@TX200AAFind somebody that has a heavy duty brush cutter or rent one, it'll make it a lot easier to clear out that area.
@David_B_DornburgGreat job
@clarebaldwinYou can sleep better now knowing that if there is a storm or bad weather, you won't be waking up to a dirty greet big tree crashed into your home. Prevention is definitely better than a cure. Well done ❤
@40davegardner👍👍
@cutter004Great job done! 🎉
@JadjaVanParghove444111When are you moving in as it's been a while renovating?
@sharonweston2413audio was off on this one. over driven somewhere in production. see if you can borrow some goats to clear the undergrowth, then you can better see what's there / what needs attention.
@ynot6473Not a fan of seeing tree workers on ladders...
@Wheel_HorseWhen Ivy takes over a tree it will suck the life right out of it. That stuff is also WAY heavier than it looks and adds to the danger of a dead tree collapsing under it's added weight.
@Wheel_HorseOne thing that amazes me is How Barren the landscape was back in the 1900's when the station and surrounding area used to be so clear. I just Wonder How it was kept that way for so long by the people back then , what processes they used, It seems it was so easy and they did not have the machinery we have today maybe they did controlled burns , chemicals or petroleum sprays or some other method .
@richardstocGil singing...."now I'm a lumberjack I'm alright....."
@stewartmcardle8149I wonder if those Vines strangle out the 🌳 tree's?
@laurienowak4203Couple of other trees look too close and should be cut down. Station too precious to risk a tree falling on it
@elaineskurski6555TIMBER!!!!!!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂
