This just happened to me today at WAL-MART. I googled an item yesterday i was thinking of buying to see where i could get it locally. The price was $13.97. When i went in to buy it a few minutes ago i noticed the price was $17.32 (24% increase). I bought it thinking i must have remembered wrong but i decided to ask my sister to google the item (i didn't send her a link) and her price was the $13.97 i saw yesterday. This is about as dystopian as it gets ladies and gentlemen. People have always said they didn't care if they were being watched, they weren't doing anything wrong. "doesn't affect me". Well now it does in a measurable and provable way.

My first experience with prices changing was at Shopper's Drug Mart. The tag said 5.99 and when I got to the checkout they charged me 8.99 I questioned it and the teller said I was mistaken. I said, Ok, I don't want it. and I walked out without buying the remaining items. I was furious.

Does this mean that as a paying customer, I will need to watch closely as each item is scanned at the checkout. If they add a simple amount of 10 cents per item can you imagine how much money they will make in a day. We can't trust any large business to do the right thing. The trust is gone and this sickens me

Their employees didn't know how to stock the shelves before, I don't know what they could do now. I found oral thermometers in the lawn and garden area. I also found a product that you add to water for dog's breath that was located next to the Listerine.

Walmart is for people that are mostly broke of don't care about quality

I used the receipt and went to the survey website and used it to complain to walmart about a few issues....I told them how much I disliked...

-barcodes instead of prices
-one entrance being closed, always the pharmacy/home goods side
-only 5 registers being open out of the 50 that they have available
-that loss prevention will not only require your receipt but make you find items for them, even if an associate rang up your items and bagged them. They will make you find the item on the list of transactions on the receipt.

I got a call from walmart, the coach at the store for the survey. Barcodes were not addressed. She was calling to tell me that I was wrong about the entrance being closed. The registers are that way and her argument was that it works fine, I just dont understand it because my expectations are unrealistic. I said "well, ok, I dont like how it is, I think it sucks, but back to the entrances, they are closed, I know for a fact"

"you are wrong sir. Those doors are open every day from blah blah blah" basically "I will tell you the same thing until you accept it as fact"

I asked her why the last time I went in the middle of the day, I watched several customers walk up to the doors that had carts in front of them, look at each other and ask "why are these entrances closed"?

She said it couldnt have been her store. She literally called to argue with me, that was it. To tell me that I was wrong.

i Work at Walmart, the prices cant just change whenever with a push of a button in some office they cant change by time of day, An Associated has to go up an scan the label to change the price, gotta love these conspiracies

Yet another way for big food to gouge customers instantly. If any product is selling well today the price goes up. If you are a customer with a points / loyalty card they will know which products you buy every week and your price will be higher than a casual purchaser of that same product. Disgusting practice by the big chains, total greed.

Dynamic pricing is dangerous for society. It seems unfair to me that different people should have to pay different prices for the same item. We have to realize that whatever reasons for doing this that are presented or not the only reason for this new change. Imagine if people who committed felonies or who for example buy marijuana have to pay more for snack food or sweets or what if your doctor says that you’re not supposed to eat fatty foods and so butter for you or cheese for you is three times the price I mean I’m being outrageous to make a point.

All this is possible with dynamic pricing and that is what this is called.

Terrible! Now the items you buy can get super expensive for you while they remain cheap for everybody else. It’s terrible but the only way you’ll know if you’re getting a fair price is to ask other people you know how much they are paying for the same item. Just imagine if they start making the price of water more expensive during the hottest times of the day. This is all on the horizon. Horrible!

They've had these price tags in France for years, it's not a big deal. It just avoids pricing errors, they still have to use the going rate because you just wouldn't buy it if it was unreasonably priced.

Best Buy have been using digital price tags in Canada for years now so this is nothing new. It is much easier because the prices do automatically update. Back in the day when I worked at Best Buy I would wake up at 5am on Fridays for Friday ad set which is when we would manually use an RF scanner to check every price tag in the store for any price change, in every department. For 4 or 5 employees to start at 6am it would usually take around 4 hours to finish the entire store. It was a pain in the a## because there were days where the ink on printed price tags would get smudged and you have to print a new batch so you are essentially wasting more printer ink and paper. I'm fine with digital price tags as long as they are not faulty and checked regularly by staff members.

My very small town rural grocery store has had these for a decade at least so I figured they were standard in the big city.
