Vowel Pronunciation - A & O

Video Overview & Insights

http://www.engvid.com/ Learn the difference in pronunciation between A and O vowel sounds in English. Hear the difference between words like cat, sack, and caps, and words like cot, sock, and cops. If you know the International Phonetic Alphabet, the sounds I'll be teaching in this lesson are æ and ɑ. If you don't know the IPA, don't worry!

The best

By the time it takes to learn the IPA rules you can learn the English rules in less time. Who uses the IPA anyways.

Ronnie why do you make it so complicated. Every word with 1 vowel has the short sound of the word except the word put. Having bag abd bog confuses students. They dont get the connection as they are different sounds.

Bag, Dan & cat are 3 different vowel sounds. Bag has a diphthong of \æ\ followed by \ɪ\ or the short A followed by \ee\. Cat, rat, back etc, all have just the \æ\ sound. Whenever the \æ\ is followed by an \n\ or \m\ consonant, we English speakers automatically change the vowel to a very high tongue position monophthong that the IPA whiffed on, I mean, they missed it, I mean, they gave it NO character😄

Gostei da aula professora, explicou muito bem sobre a difrerença dessas vogais com sons parecidos. Conseguir entender melhor com sua explicação; e melhor ainda quando você compara as duas palavras, isto ajuda muito.

Howcome, when you say aa as ask, and the corresponding word is 👜bag, and it doesn't match somehow.
Not complaining, but bringing this to your attention dear.

North American English is quite different from English spoken in England …..for example “cot” would never be referred to as a spare bed….Cot is a small bed for a baby with raised sides….. and while Don might be a name popular in Canada….most English people know the word don (note lower case d)….as another word for a teacher or lecturer…as in Oxford don….
