Become a backend engineer. Its my favorite site

I learned basic vim motions in college on QWERTY, but now use Colemak. Do I relearn the positions of the shorcuts on the new layout or remap so that locations are the same?
This is also the best way to support me is to support yourself becoming a better backend engineer.

I did a custom key mapping on the default windows key bindings to make navigation just as easy as you would be able to in vim, but not just in an ideπ

I've been using vim for ages, not a full time programmer though, and db makes way more sense to delete backwards. I've been doing bdw
More User Perspectives
i really like the vim motions with the exception of the basic movement being hjkl. i started using evil mode in emacs i had to make a gargantuan block of remappings to get basic movement that felt right for me.
@pretzels1208I love this. I recently switched to linux and stared using vim, but i didn't get a great overview of the basics, so i used i + right arrow, to edit most of my configs.
@sicretzixI'm a pretty long time
Vim user and I am wondering something about neovim. To me neovim seems cool because it might have nicer defaults than vim. Which seems trivial because they can be changed but I regularly log into systems where I may not have time to set it up my way and defaults make an experience consistent and familiar. But, every time I see people talk about neovim they talk about the HEAVY customisation they've made and the pre baked startup script you HAVE to have. How much value is neovim just "vanilla"?
Ok bro but... how do I quit vim? ππ
@shadowthefox1I learned vi in 1987.
@golftesterπ
@viruslab1Cmd - Cnt - Mot
Just gotta play with motions, modes, and cmds.
Awesome, it clicked. Thank youπ
this is awesome
@gryban_tolistobvscodium broooo
@SYNAPSNEX0FFICIALI feel like I have superpowers!
@KarthiDreamrweird i been trying to learn and i swear i subbed to you like 7 moths ago and now it says i wasnt.. :( subbed again tho
@lurtiskoeI donΒ΄t know why the fuck I'm learning this just to edit dotfiles
@arsupaI was having such a hard time grasping vim until I liked and subscribed. After that... a breeze ππ€
@natepepper36When you install nvim it has :Tutor
Simple fun way to get started
If anyone wants to learn motions without using Vim or NeoVim, check if your IDE or code editor has a "Vi Input Mode." That way you can have all the bells and whistles of a GUI while still using Vim motions.
@LuckyDogEUIβll be honest as a not really programmer neovim is a lot more interesting to me than vim motions lol
@Azeriause vim requires elite ball knowledge
@semy4zaThe subscribe button really does wonders,
I've been using debian as my primary for the past 1.5 yrs and only now am I able to nvim after hitting subscribe
Hitting subscribe did indeed improve my learning!
@gavinbaumanis6078How to navigate to the upper and lower hierarchy of braces in nested braces? going to upper hierarchy of braces from lower is easy, but what about parent to child scenarios?
@thahmidulislamnafi8308Well that 10 round counts is really annoying in the VimBeGood, I edited the source code and made it 40, now it feels really nicer.... Thank you though!
@progbytesTrying to get vim-be-good running in 2025 is a painful insult. Someday neovim will come with its own native plugin manager. But unless you're willing to risk running nightly builds, you don't have access to this most basic functionality.
@Dillinger0x048:27 what a prophetic take
@goeuldithank you i needed this so much. i can finally quit neovim
@spicyBaIIs99Yet to see anything I couldn't do with arrow keys, shift and some less arcane hotkeys than this. I get that this can probably make it ever so slightly faster but if I was going any faster I couldn't trust myself not to get overzealous and accidentally mess something up once my hands get faster than my brain.
@Butts666first time i tried learning vim i found it tedious. i was on windows using bash and all. it helped me with an easier start where i could move in insert mode with my usual arrows keys and all. kinda like a toned down version. now switching to linux and learning more commands they don't feel as overwhelming. you just need that initial familiarity and get started; rest will be easier.
@akashpartel7391one does not simply exit vim
@akashpartel7391Vim for President!
@sociologie4507ffs get to the point
@matthewsummonsvim reminds me of SEU "Source Entry Utility" that I had to learn how to use at my first programming gig. It was a manufacturer and their entire operation was run on an AS400. I actually did miss using it after I no longer needed to do any work on the 400... That's partially what got me into emacs at the time.
@dr__kynesI am trying to learn VIM motions using the "vi" preinstall on my desktop but having trouble trying to change many years of muscle memory. My problem is that whenever I start typing my index fingers find the bumps on the home row. The "hjkl" directions are completely intuitive but the offset throws me off. When I practice I always start with "jkl;" from my right hand position until i see that i am making mistakes and then move my right hand to the left one key temporarily during motions. I want to use VIM motions but with an offset one key to the right so that I do not need to move my right hand off of the homerow keys when moving. Am I doing something wrong to want this offset? I am kind of stuck going forward since VIM motions on "hjkl" are not intuitive to me.
@AZ-if2mjAh yes it's akame from akame ga kill
@truekili9215So Vim is just classic Dwarf Fortress, yeah I can work with that
@pgabrielrrcool cool, maybe next time
@youtube.com-handleI learned the basic vim motions by playing Nethack. Nethack actually got me interested in Vim. Lol.
@HeathenWildcatI feel like I have to type more words to delete words lol
@Luisja_cI remember getting my first internship and the dude who was responsible for my onboarding turned off my mouse in terminal, opened vim and told me this is where everything is going to be happening from now on. And so the saga began. Best internship ever!
@honza4471didnt even watch the video,
just clicked subscribed
Im doing it guys finally dropping VS code
