Just my opinion, for so many reasons I prefer Thailand!

One big problem I saw in this video is that u were comparing Danang to Thai island expenses…. I’m assuming u were comparing it to Koh Samui or similar 🤔🙄 When Danang is probably way more comparable to Pattaya so the expenses would be fairly similar not 30% cheaper. I live in Pattaya and just came back from a week in Danang and I did my own field test of comparing it while there and I found rents to be very similar. Food only about 10% cheaper but the driving way worse than Pattaya which I thought would be hard to achieve but Danang took the crown…. I feel it’s even worse than Bangkok which I have ridden and driven in many times….

When it comes to places where you have everything within walking distance, I'd say the best I have ever experienced is Phrom Phong (EM District) in Bangkok (*I am a big-city-loving "poolside" type of guy though, mind you). You'd think that its location, sandwiched between Thonglor and Asok, is key, but if you live there, you hardly feel the need to ever go to either place. It's really an amazing cocoon that leaves nothing to be desired. A million thumbs up and highly recommended.

On the Food side (specifically, I am talking about international cuisine, since "local one" is definitely a degustibus affair) its worth mentioning that Thailand is divided in two. On one side there is "Thailand" on the other there is "Bangkok". The latter is a top ranking Food Capital of the world. From Michelin Starred restaurants to gourmet holes in unexpected places, Bangkok always ranks in the top 3 positions of Restaurants Best 50 chart (rivaling the likes of Tokyo and New York) while Vietnam has a long (LONG) road ahead before even popping up at number 50. As such, if you were eyeing Bangkok as your destination, rest assured that it is second to none.

I can tell you haven’t spent much time in Vietnam outside of Da Nang. That’s ok, but you have so much more to explore. I’d suggest at least spending more time in Saigon Thao Dien area, as it sounds like you’re looking for western conveniences. But Vietnam is way more than Da Nang and D2 in Saigon. And if you’re looking to play padel in Vietnam, you’re looking for the wrong activity. Pickleball is the thing that’s available everywhere from morning until nighttime. I agree with others that the visa setup in Vietnam is very bad compared to Thailand for long-term living. But personally I prefer Vietnam over Thailand. For me it has been easier to make friends, to find community, and to date. I prefer the motorbike chaos and excitement of Saigon over the gridlock and mall culture of Bangkok. But I have to give Thailand the W for having incredible tropical islands.

They’re both amazing places, but if I had to pick I’d pick Vietnam.

It is a shame that Thailand took the wrong turn in the past. If we had prioritized technology like South Korea or Japan, our people would be much more skilled and earn far higher incomes today. We spent too much time fearing the loss of our traditional culture and agricultural roots, and we relied far too heavily on tourism.

I want to tell Vietnam: focus on developing technology to build real wealth for your people. Don't make the same mistake of relying solely on tourism like Thailand did in the past.

Thailand is finally waking up and moving, but it’s a difficult climb now that we are becoming an aging society. People are hesitant to have children because life is such a struggle—they feel as though they are carrying a burden of 'karma' and don't want to bring children into the world to suffer the same hardships.

I want to send my support to both Thailand and Vietnam. Let’s join hands to develop our nations, bring prosperity to our people, and welcome the world as friends together.

Thailand all three way. Even Vietnam has been carefully studying Thailand for years, Vietnam is still far behind. Cambodia and Laos also closely following Thailand, sometimes they do aggressive marketing that Thai cultures came from them 🫠

Thailand wins on infrastructure for sure — Bangkok's transport options alone make Vietnam cities feel underdeveloped in comparison. That said, Vietnam has the edge on "authentic" factor if that's what you're after. Curious which city you think is best for someone doing their first month as a nomad in SE Asia.

I think the fact that now tourists compare VN to Thailand is such an amazing thing! 10 years ago, VN had nothing to compare to Thailand 🙂

As a Thai person you stat only 6-8 months can not deeply understand both country just only your feeling. Anyway I want VN win now so many expats we welcone tourists but not long term staying . PS now all the world face the inflation problem why everyone expect still want low cost in Thailand?

I’m Vietnamese, and I think Thailand has always done tourism better, with many things that make foreign visitors feel more comfortable.
Vietnam feels more focused on serving local people. In fact, if you are not in a tourist area, local people usually do not pay much attention to foreigners. Everyone mostly just minds their own business.

Vietnam is safer than Thailand

As vietnamese I would like to say if you would like to stay in Vietnam for longterm you should have a job or business in Vietnam, you will immigrate to the vietnamese social better through the job. Staying in Vietnam as a digital nomad wont work here too long because you stay to far away from the real social.

If you prefer peace and comfort, you can visit many islands in Vietnam. You can choose to stay at Vinpearl. They have all the services you need.
