My late father in law was a 20 year Airforce veteran. I was getting a lecture from my NCOIC and he said that my dad and father in law didn't know what they were talking about when it came to the military. I offered him their phone numbers so he could tell them personally. He shut up after that.

They do not have an Iraq/Inherit Resolve, Afghanistan, or a GWOT-Expeditionary Medal. One doesn't rate any personal or unit award.

Yes, the shower parties were real. Pillow case with bars of soap, some know this..felt sorry for the kid...but he never missed a shower again....or his night watch of the diesel fed heaters in the barracks.

To be fair the old guy fought in a far more costly war than anyone in uniform today has ever seen. And his dad fought in a war that was even worse. Anyone in uniform in the US today is two or even three generations removed from a war in which losing 100 guys in one day was normal. I can see why gunny ain't impressed. If we're being fair we don't actually know how present day troopers would handle a war at those levels of casualties. If the recent Iran experience is any indication...eh

We had a kid at Great lakes who sang otis redding every single morning. Apparently the story I heard them was he was getting azmod on purpose to keep withing service contract. Actually brilliance. I learned fear and respect are totally different things. Never the same. You earn respect. I never fear anyone, even my E-9s up to potus. However I will respect. Probably what got me in my troubles. But no even today I fear no person due to whatever is running thru their heads.
