Very hungry canopener bridge defeats fancy, new warning system
Video Overview & Insights
In May, the Dept. of Transportation installed a very nice LED blank-out warning sign at the 11foot8 bridge.The new sign is combined with a traffic light that stops traffic when an overheight truck approaches. Yet, when the bridge is hungry, it will eat. Watch as the canopener lures in an unsuspecting moving truck and chews up the roof.
penske and all the other rental companies warn about the bridge and have contract clauses for this bridge aaand do they listen!?

a number of noisy rails at 1'7' needs to be placed 100 feet on all roads leading to the bridge. So the over height get a noisy early warning.
@ivanhorban340IK was in the moving game: we went to tractor trailers as only one employee in ten HAD a drivers' license. But all th eothers were giving out free passenger "advice".........usually too late.
@DwightStJohn-t7yExcel-erate your Darwin Award, with Excel Moving & Storage
@xinyycBet the police love getting this footage
@donnamurphy5698only in america
@PlutoTheSynthAnyone driving a any sort of boxtruck should know how tall it is. Still not surprised that theres people oblivious to old bridges .
@lu5445at what point is this the fault of the bridge builders?
@bouwen4tw"Surly that cannot refer to me, the only large truck in this line of traffic on this one way street."
@WalkerRileyMCMy dogs genitals fell off because of this bridge
@Guzzle20TonsOfCornStarchThey just need a new signal with Gandalf, like at the bridge of Khazad Dum, to step out at the bridge and shout "You Shall Not Pass!"
@travelinman423Obviously, they thought the warning was meant for that white sedan that was right in front of the truck. Perfectly reasonable assumption.
@CJ-442Reading is Fundamental. ……….🤣
@boblill8476the sign needs to read, "TOLD YOU SO!"
@LivingWithinMyMemesAnother clown 🤡
@kevinrudisill6129First thing in the morning I see, what a way to start the day, with a big laugh.
@jayjaynella4539What if they turned the bridge into a drawbridge? That way it could just open up for trucks to get through. Train would have to know ahead of time to stop in time though.
@CacowninjaThe fact that the lights turn green plus the ambiguous warning text are confusing
@robj1646Thank you for the show
@neilgillespie7435this is niche af
@fall4444Maybe illegals who only do metric... just saying
@dannybrightwell5583Idk how I found this bridge out of thin air irl
@calebgaming8459If there's one thing I've learned in my years of having to deal with people in public, it's that even if you put it in blinking lights right in front of their face, most people just refuse to read anything
@giggityguyThe driver excelled at being an idiot!!! once again another burger flipper is born lol!!
@MikeKosteckyI just love the terrible, half asleep drivers in the comment section making excuses for the mental disability displayed by TRUCK drivers. Those things weigh multiple tons, people, they are not a joke. If you are an imbecile, you should refrain from driving one.
@BruderRazielIt's the same truck too
@geekygamer3954again, freaking actual SCP example
@cropathfinderIs this prospect park?
@HermeticJazz"YOUR truck is too tall" would be a better sign.
@murakisredmoonIn my city we call similar bridge “Bridge of stupidity”, and the journalists keep counting the amount of crushes. It’s very funny, tbh, while this bridge is famous and equipped with warning signs of all shapes and forms, there’s always a driver who thinks he can pass through 😂
@peppermint_PepeNo excuses but the sign is vague. It could be read as "Any vehicle that is overheight must turn", not "YO! YOU! YES YOU LADDIE! Y'RE TOO TALL! EAT YOUR MEAT!"
@katerwaul23You have to try pretty hard to be that dumb.
@Merzui-kg8dsThe warning system works only when the driver actually knows the height of their truck.
@ArverAnteosBad design. QED, it doesn't stop overtall vehicles whose drivers don't know or don't think they're overtall. For this to be effective, the sensors would need to close the road under the bridge entirely and FORCE the overtall vehicle to turn off.
@redneckgaijinHow many times does the same moving company Hit the fucking bridge😮
@kris_jenner_is_a_cryptid_I´ve never seen a traffic light and warning system so useless.
@RRSC_343Maybe, if the sign was flashing instead of still...
@alessiomuccio2795this is such a classic failure of human error
@edzhead22Red lights stop drivers all the time. Do you spend that time re reading road signs? This is bad engineering, plain and simple. The driver made a predictable human error, but it was the warning system that failed. It should have had a cue to remind the driver to check their roof height vs the bridge.
@spacecaptain9188I mean, that is a pretty dumb warning system. It looks like a standard red light! It's not going to get the driver's attention as a warning, rather than an instruction to hang tight for a minute.
@spacecaptain9188I don't know if the company excels at storage, but it certainly doesn't seem to excel at moving.
@chesscomsupport8689the language and that sign is really unclear. is written as if it is a sign that is permanently on informing those who may be over height that they must turn around, not informing the driver that it has been detected that they are in fact over height and therefore must turn around
@beegman27It' need an impact sensor and an "I told you so"
@ralphmueller3725Got nothing on the Montague Street Bridge
@patrickweyland-smith1023"I seem to have gotten caught on something
@FoxDog1080"Hmm wonder who that's for"
@codenamemango9701"The Very Hungry Canopener" would be a hilarious parody children's book
@woodfur00The bridge hungers. It must feed.
@Arjayyyyylove how all the cars just stop and those that can still move are just like "imma just slide right by...."
@k1ttyy_br41nssThis is so overengineered it must have failed. A hanging metal sheet that could loudly bang any overheight truck would do much better, requiring no electricity or maintenance.
